Introduction
As engineer in the consultant firm, your group are assigning to design a water
treatment plant for the proposed housing and public development project in Pauh, Perlis.
2.
Scope of Work
The scope of work shall comprise the following;
(a) Project Description
(b) Population projection
(c) Computation of water demand
(d) Propose Water Intake Collection and Water Intake Structure
(e) Determination of Water Quality Index (WQI)
(f) Propose and design water treatment plant
(g) Propose water distribution layout
3.
Project Description
Should includes; the purpose of design project, study of project area (such as project
location and existing environment i.e. land use, topography, geology and meteorology (wind
profile and rainfall)) and project elements (electricity, telecommunication, access road,
drainage and sewerage.)

Therefore, each group of student is needed to carry out field work by collecting river water
sample for the analysis of its water quality. All the parameters that been selected should can
be calculated for the Water Quality Index (WQI). Therefore, each group of student is required
to classify the water quality level for the selected river water sample based on the result
obtained from the WQI.

development project in Pauh, Perlis. A design should include an estimate of the flow to be
treated, the water quality of the water, specification of the unit processes to be included in the
treatment system, the size of the treatment units (i.e., dimensions, flow capacities, etc.), and
an estimate of the water quality that would result from the system.
