Orca Master Installation Guide

Version 1.0

Introduction
This guide explains how to install the Admiralty Information Overlay and underlying ENCs into the 7Cs Orca
Master ECS application. It assumes the user has managed to download, install and register Orca Master. It
applies only to version 4.5 of Orca Master, the evaluation version which is the first version released which
has compatibility with the Overlay. It is also assumed that the user is in possession of permits for the Overlay
and the underlying ENCs.

Installing ENCs and the Admiralty Information Overlay

When ORCA Master starts up the main user interface is shown on screen. In order to load data (both the
Overlay and ENC) the Chart Handler must be started. This can be accessed from the main interface by
selecting Chart and Chart Handling from the Radio buttons as shown in the diagram below. When this is
selected the Charthandler button should be pressed:

When the Charthandler button is pressed the main interface window minimises and the Charthandler is
brought up. A dialog (below) asks the user to confirm this

Using Charthandler
The Charthandler interface is shown below:

Charthandler can be driven using the wizard and this is the easiest way to install permits and charts. The
wizard is started every time Charthandler is started. To restart it from Charthandler press the Start Wizard
for Chart Actions button at the top of the Charthandler window (highlighted in the above screenshot).

Installing the correct certificate

Before any charts can be installed into Orca the correct S-63 certificate must be installed. This only needs to
be completed once, subsequent installs will use the same certificate. To install the certificate first quit the
wizard (this will be restarted after the certificate install.). To quit the wizard simply press the Cancel button.
The main wizard window is shown below.

Once the Chart Wizard is cancelled the Certificates button on the main Charthandler window should be
pressed. This is highlighted in the screenshot below:

The Certificate Information dialog is then shown. This displays the current certificate installed in the system
which is used to authenticate the source of the charts being installed. The Load Certificate button should be
pressed (highlighted below).

Once this is done a file selection dialog will be presented to load the correct certificate. The certificate is
called primar.crt and is located on any AVCS chart media in the ENC_ROOT folder.

Locate the primar.crt file on the AVCS media and press the open button. The Certificate Information
dialog can then be closed and chart installation can begin.

button should then be pressed. The following dialog is then presented.

Press the Read Chart Permits button. The following dialog is then displayed

This allows the user to navigate to the location of the permit file this is the permit file containing the ENC
and Overlay permits. Select the correct permit file and press Open. The Charthandler then installs the
permits within Orca. The following dialog is then displayed to show successful permit installation. If there any
problems at this stage they must be resolved before proceeding. The permits are specific to the installation
of Orca and must have valid expiry dates within them.

Select the Browse button and locate the folder where the ENC charts are located. This is normally the
folder containing the ENC_ROOT folder on CD-ROM or other removable media.
When the Charthandler has found a valid exchange set folder the following dialog is displayed this reads
the list of charts within the media.

When Charthandler has finished browsing the list of charts the Next button can be pressed. This then
displays the following dialog:

Press the Next button and Charthandler will display the following final confirmation dialog.

Press Yes Charthandler will then install all charts within the exchange set. Whilst installing the charts the
following dialog is presented showing progress:

Charts can take some time to install, particularly if there are a large quantity of them. When chart installation
from the media selected is completed the following dialog is displayed:

If the ENCs you want to install are located on multiple CDs then press the Next button and follow the steps
to locate the next CD and install the other charts. Continue until all the required charts are installed.
Once the charts are installed if an update CD is also present then this should be installed using the same
procedure. This ensures charts are fully up to date.

Installing the Admiralty Information Overlay

The Overlay is located on a separate CD from the rest of the AVCS datasets. Once all the ENCs are
installed press Next on the above dialog and navigate to the location of the Overlay media. The Overlay
dataset can then be installed in exactly the same way as the underlying ENCs.
Exiting Charthandler
Once all the charts and Overlay data have been installed, press the Finish button. In the Charthandler
press the Quit button located in the bottom right of the Charthandler window as shown in the following

Technical Support
Who should you contact?
You will receive the most effective support if you address your initial query to the correct organisation. This
will usually be the manufacturer of the ECDIS equipment, or the Admiralty Chart Agent you obtain your
AVCS charts from, but in certain circumstances you may need to contact UKHO Customer Services.
Problem
Hardware problems: difficulties with the keyboard, mouse, display or main
system console, failure of a floppy disk or CD drive.
Software problems: difficulties with configuring or using the ECDIS system
software, interfacing problems.
Chart installation problems: problems with installing certificates, permits and
AVCS ENCs, standard error codes displayed (see AVCS User Guide).
Chart content problems: display anomalies or mismatched data displays.
Problems that have not been resolved by your Admiralty Chart Agent.

Contact details are available on the last page of this guide.

When reporting a chart-related problem, it is useful if you can provide the following details:
The AVCS license number
The ECDIS system (and model/version) being used (especially if you have more than one system on
board)
The date and week number of the latest base and update discs held on the vessel
The issue date of the latest ENC Permits held. If the problem appears to be related to the permits it is
best to send a copy of the latest ENC Permits held by email if this is possible.
Any error messages displayed on the ECDIS (see page 18 of the AVCS User Guide)
