LECHATELIER'SPRINCIPLE
ThispagelooksatLeChatelier'sPrincipleandexplainshowto
applyittoreactionsinastateofdynamicequilibrium.Itcovers
changestothepositionofequilibriumifyouchange
concentration,pressureortemperature.Italsoexplainsvery
brieflywhycatalystshavenoeffectonthepositionof
equilibrium.

AccordingtoLeChatelier,thepositionofequilibriumwillmovein
suchawayastocounteractthechange.Thatmeansthatthe
positionofequilibriumwillmovesothattheconcentrationofA
decreasesagainbyreactingitwithBandturningitintoC+D.

Thisisausefulwayofconvertingthemaximumpossibleamount
ofBintoCandD.Youmightuseitif,forexample,Bwasa
relativelyexpensivematerialwhereasAwascheapandplentiful.

productsofthereactionassoonasitisformed.If,forexample,
youremovedCassoonasitwasformed,thepositionof
equilibriumwouldmovetotherighttoreplaceit.Ifyoukepton
removingit,theequilibriumpositionwouldkeeponmoving
rightwardsturningthisintoaonewayreaction.
