(saw) & Summary of Lineage by Sheikh Yasir Qadhi

We are began to talking about the entire Arab race, that how the books of Seerah
began. Who exactly are the Arabs. There are many theories, that the fact of the
Matter is, that there is nothing that is scientific, legends that the Arabs hat transferred
down generation to generation the standard narrative. The standard narrative goes
that the Arabs can be divided in 2 brought categories. First of them are the instinct
Arabs (Arab Al-Bayidah,) they are gone and these are also called the ancient Arabs.
And these are the earliest civilizations in the land of Arabia, the earliest civilization
known in the Land of Arabia and the Quran mentioned some of them such as
Thamood and Aad and they where other tribes as well. And so these civilizations no
longer exists obviously, the progeny according to the majority and dominant opinion
has been completely exterminated all of them, that Allah exterminated all of them.
These civilizations flourish 5-6 thousand years ago, from the earliest Don of recorded
civilizations. And some of them where destroyed by Allah (swt) such the Thamood
and other where force to evacuate or whipped out by war, so the point is these are
called the ancient Arabs and simply in the textbooks of history.
The 2nd groups of Arab are called the Remaining Arabs Al-Arab Al-Baqqiyah, those
who where remained and these Arabs are divided in to 2 categories: The 1st of these
are the Al-Arab Al Aribah (in English the pure Arabs) and the 2 nd Al Arab Al
Mustahriba (The Arabs who became Arabs), Arabs who learned the Arabic
Language. So you have the original Arab Al-Arab Al Aribah then you have the Arabs
who became Arab, who took the Arabic Language Al Arab Al Mustahriba.
And they are 2 figures that the Legends says that they are the founders of each of
these, these figures are not brothers, they are 2 categories. The first of them AlArab Al Aribah, they say primarily this is Kahtaan, some say his son Yaarub from that
they say we get Arab. Those who were the descendants of Yaarub they became
Arab and they say Yaarub was the first who spoke the beginning of Arabic. Yaarub
spoke a language and they called it Ya-Arab., basically people are called Araby from
these person, the son of Kahtaan and they are also Kahtaani Arab, and these are
where primarily found in certain parts of Arabia as they Ancient Yemeni civilizations.
They Ancient civilization of Yemen.
Who was Kahtaan? Kahtaan was one of the descendants of Saam. Saam is the son
of Nuh (a.s.). From Saam we get the English term samaight. Now common legends
biblical and even Hadith (some scholars said it iss authentic, some said it is not
authentic), there is a Hadith in Tirmidhi1, it said: Saam is the father of the Arabs,
Liafith is the Father of the Romans and Haam is the Father of the Africans this
Hadith is in At-Tirmidhi. And Imagine even the Bible has the same thing, that Nuh
had basically eventually 3 sons and from them all of the races came, Saam, Yafith
and Haam.
Haam is the father of the Semite people, Yafith is the father of the Romans and
Haam is the Father of the Africans and these are the standard biblical narrative and
these are also the standard Islamic narrative as well. Modern Science did not except
any of these because they have their own theories. Having said that btw that modern
science say that the semite people, there are some evidence but modern science say
it is not true. Kahtaan is one of the Samites. And of course Ibrahim is also one of the

samites. Kahtaan and Ibrahim are both descended of Samites, they are not brothers
and nobody knows when Kahtaan lived. Kahtaans ancestor and Ibrahims ancestor
are Saam and there both Ibrahim and Kahtaan are Samites. Whoever of course the
lineage of Ibrahim is pure, our Prophet Mohammad (saw) came from that.
Now some people say that this Kahtaan was actually one of the descended of the
Ancient Arabs (Al-Arab Al Baidah), so he wasnt just a total stranger wondering in,
rather that some ancient Arabs remained one of these People where Kahtaan and he
flourished at a Time, at a Place, we have no Idea, anything really about him, other
then southern Yemen basically and that his children we pure Arabs because his son
is the founder of the Arabic Language Yaarub, so Yaarub is the founder of the Arabic
Language.
We do not know when Kahtaan flourished, btw. Imam Tabari said that, Saam has 2
different branches one oft hem goes to Ibrahim (as) and one goes to Kahtaan and
other Scholars say, that Kahtaan is of the descendants of Hud (as) and Hud (as) is of
course on of the Ancient Arab Al Aribah, but the point is we dont know when he
lived, most likely Kahtaan is predating Adnan by centuries. Who is Adnan, that the
2nd category of Arabs and these are the Arabs Al-Mustahribah. The Arabs who
became Arab, so 2 large groups the Kahtaani Arabs and the Adnani Arabs. Arabs
are familiar with this two branches, these are the 2 mother branches. Kahtaani are
thoese who lived in Arabia from the Ancient times, after the destruction of the 1st
Arabs, but not from the earliest of the times, that Al-Arab al Bayidah. So then. So
who are the Arabicizes Arabs the Adnani Arabs, these Arabs are of the descended
of Ismail (a.s), one of the descended of Ismail (a.s.) Allah knows how many
generations down, his name was Adnan. An Adnan obviously where did his lineage
come from, it goes back to Ismail the son of Ibrahim and where was Ibrahim living, in
Arabia? No, in Iraq, Shaam and Palestine now.
Ibrahim is from up there, so they say that these Arabs (Adnan) are Mustahriba, they
acquired the Arabic Language, they not speaking Arabic, they speaking Ancient
Semetic Language which is the mother of Hebrew and Arabic, some Language that
is neither Arabic, nor Hebrew, it is some ancient sematic language, likely it is close
the ancient Hebrew at it is to Arabic. So did Arabic come from? It comes from the
Kahtaani Arabs. So when the descendants of Ismail basically lived in the Arabian
Peninsula they obviously had do adopt and take in the Arabic Language, now
obviously human linguistic language and knowledge tells us that, they must that add
it to the language as well. Every time a civilizations comes you also add to the
Language.
So the Adnani Arabs, who is Adnan, one of the descendants of Ismail (a.s.), how
many People between Adnan and Ismail, very simplistically we do not know and
Adnan is a direct Ascendant of our Prophet Mohammad (saw). So our Prophet (saw)
is an Adnani Arab, not a Kahtaani Arab, because Adnan is of the descendant of
Ismail (a.s.) and our Prophet (saw) is the 20th grandchild of Adnan. So between our
Prophet (saw) and Adnan is exactly 20 generations. Btw for the Arabs here, so
Adnan one of his great great great great grand Children was Muddar and his Brother
was Rabiah (they are this 2 Branches of Adnan)2.

that is the Science of Ilm ul Ansaab, the science of Lineage, that people literally memorized everyone
of this Branches and Trees and that is a Science that the Arabs prided that selves on and anybody
who was knowledge of Ansaab considered to be a well-educated man, he read all the classics

When did Adnan live? There is a report from Ibn Al-Qalby (one of the greatest
Ulama of Ansaab, died 204 Hijri), very early scholars and one of the founder of
history of writing gyneologie, an classical Alim like Ibn Hisham and Ibn Ishaq, Ibn
AlQalbi said that Maad the son of Adnan lived contepriansly with Jesus Christ, so
Adnan is 1 generation before Jesus Christ, I calculated that out and actually its very
accrued, why? Because typically 100 years, exactly are 3 generations. The year is
2015 go back to 1950 in your own family and who was flourishing at that time?
Answer: Your great grandfather. My own grandfather died 1918 btw, he was in his
40th, the age is pretty much the same, the point being that, if you do the math, what
was the time difference between Isa (a.s.) and our Prophet Mohammad (saw) ? 570
years, our Prophet (saw) was born in 570. Now divide 570 by 20, you will get 31 or
32, which is exactly right. How old are you when you have your sons and daughters?
IN you early 30th typically, the average. Adnan lived 30 B.C., because his son Maad
was contemporariness to Isa ibn Maria (a.s.), clear ??
So Adnan the founder of the Adnani Arabs is ruffly contemporariness to the pre
Jesus Christ and Kahtaan, we have no idea, but we think 400 years before him,
Kahtaan predates Adnan, how do we know this, because Ismail marries into the
Jurhummights that is one of the branches of Kahtaan. The Kahtaan has to predate
Adnan.
So with this background, the linage of our Prophet Mohammad (saw) is divided into 3
categories. The first category we know for sure, without a shadow of a draught,
without any difference of an opinion between him and Adnan, this is set in stone,
everybody agrees. 20 Generations.
The 2nd category is that we can try to glean some knowledge from pre-Islamic
sources but we dont have anything concrete. And this is from Adnan to Ismail. We
cant have any Informations from the Jewish and Christian sources about this period,
why, from Adnan to Ismail, it is not mentioned, because they dont care about
Ismails lineage, the bible not mentioned it at all, btw the Bible mentioned that there is
gonna be the sons of Kedar and one of the descendants of Ismail is Kedar, the Bible
mentioned it (I think it is Genisis), Ismail is mentioned and Allah says I have made a
great nation out of him and also mentioned the sons of Kedar (Qaidar), Qaidar is one
of the sons of Ismail and of the Ancestors of Adnan, so Qaidar is mentioned in the
Bible, but thats about it. Where did we get this information? From Arabic Folklore.
And Arabic Folklore is not been preserved that well. So At-Tabari f.e. mentions 7
opinions about the Lineage between Adnan and Ismail. In one opinion they are 7
people in one 8, in one 9 in an another 10 and in an another 41 people, between
Adnan and Ismail, but in the End of the Day, we have no Idea. BIG
QUESTIONMARK. What are the name of the ancestors and how many ancestors
between Adnan and Ismail we have no Idea whatsoever. Even tough 7 is not enough
because if you do the math, Ismail is not living 200 years before Jesus Christ, 7
generations would be 300 years, thats not enough and probably 40, 41 come closer
to the truth, in any case we dont know, that the case we have no knowledge about it.
Then from Ismail to Adam, we have 1 source, what is that source? The Lineage from
Ismail to Adam ? The source is the Thora, the old Testament, can we reli on the old
testament, no so that is our only source of Information and if you look at some of the
charts printed, in the Muslim world, you will find a lineage from Prophet Mohammad
(saw) all the way to Adam (a.s.), you must have seen this, it is also online at whatnot,
right?

This chart is half fact, half myth and half fiction, that doesnt make sense, 1/3, 1/3,
1/3, ok, the fact is it is between the Prophet (saw) and Adnan, from Adnan to Ismail,
a myth, then from Ismail to Adam, we take that from the Jewish and Christian
sources. We dont have anything in our tradition from Ismail and Ibrahim all the way
back to Prophet Adam (a.s.) and if you look at this chart and count the numbers you
will find exactly 55 generations between Adam and the Prophet Mohammad (saw)
and this fits perfectly with the Jewish calendar of around 6000 years, because the
Jews and the fundamental Christians, the orthodox Jews and the fundamental
Christians believe that we have been around for 6000 years. And this gyneology fits
perfect to that narrative, of course that is highly problematic in light of the modern
science, in light of archeology, in the light of human rains, in the light of cave
painting, the fact of the matter is that we can C14 date humanity for 10 th of thousands
of years, we have paintings in France, we have Aborigine structures going back
30.000 Years in the Minimum, that is literally set in stone, we have carved in stone
images, we have a hand print in a cave that was discovered in France, the Artist left
his handprint on there, it was a cave that was blocked off and was discovered few
years ago, there is a National Geographic documentary about this. You go back
there, you will see the remains of the fire, the paintings, the carving, the animal
shown no longer exists in the world, its bizarre, amazing, this is go back 30.000
Years these are Homo Sapiens. US. The point being that clearly 6000 years doesnt
make sense from a scientific perspective, we as Muslims dont have to believe in the
6000 years timeline, our tradition not tell us to believe in a 6000 year timeline, we
have no problem extrapolating back, 20, 30.000 Years that the science tells us and if
we were to do this, then we have to say, this lineage that is shown, between Adnan
and Ismail and between Ismail and Adam has to be wrong, because there must be
more people, it cant be this small lineage and there are evidence to this as well.
Imam Malik Ibn Anas was told, about a human being in his time, who could trace his
lineage back to Adam (as) and Imam Malik said: How told him this lineage? he
denied this and his said that, how about to Ismail? And Imam Malik said: Even this I
thought and there is also an Hadith in it, Hadith in Mujamal Qabil At-Tabarani, which
has some slightness in the chain, that the Prophet Mohammad (saw) heard
somebody saying his lineage back to the Prophet Nuh (as) in which the Prophet
(saw), when he heard this lineage his said: Kazaban Nasaboon This people who
are putting this lineage have lied, the gynecologist have lied and he recited the Vers
in the Quran Surah Furqan Wa qarunan bina zalika qathira - And they where
Kathir, many generations between them, so it is as if (the Hadith is slightly weak) if
we say it is authentic for historical reasons, meaning when it comes to history we can
a lil bit relax and accept incidents, but this Hadith is not authentic, but it makes sense
to be honest. Allah says in the Quran: Wa qarunan bina zalika qathira, they were
many generations between and Allah is mentioning past nations, if Allah is saying
many in my humble opinion this is not 10, 15 or 20, for Allah to use the word, Kathir
it doesnt make sense that are just 7 people between Adnan and Ismail, it seems to
bit lil bit more than this and this would fit in perfectly with modern science as well, that
they were many many many generations and they are other evidences as well that
indicate that 6000 years, doesnt make sense. Of them is the Prophet (saw) saying:
Buythu Waana Saaqah Hatayn, 3I and the day of the Judgment had been sent like
this two Fingers, meaning the difference between this two fingers, meaning the Day
of Judgment is right after me, We are now in what year of the Hijra? 1437 and we
dont want be alive when this here comes. So, if this little amount is 1000 year, how

about the rest of the finger, doesnt it kind make it sense to stretch it back to more
than 6000 years. And they are other evidence as well, of them is the Hadith in Sahih
Al Muslim, where Allah (swt) created the children of Adam and Adam was there and
he saw a bright light amongst his children and he was amazed by this light, he said:
Who is this oh Allah? And Allah said: This is your son, Dawood, who shall live
towards the End of Times Akhiroon Zaman, Hold on a second Dawood is Akhiroon
Zaman? What is that mean about us than? If Dawood, is Akhiroon Zaman where did
that live between him Adam and Dawood, how many generations? If we go and see
the 6000 year period Dawood would not be Akhir. Dawood would be lil bit after half,
right? So for Allah to say, this is you son Dawood who would be Fi-Akhiroon Zaman,
so why Im saying this, btw? In my humble opinion, the evidence are very clear for
me, they are not KATY or DHANY, the 6000 Year timeline is not Islamic and this is
one of those things that people daughts about islam. We are not restricted to 6000
years. We can stretch the time period as long as science tells us, when have not a
restriction of a time period. Perhaps these evidence seem to so just that there where
planty of generations between our Prophet (saw) and Adam (as).

Now the actual lineage of our Prophet Mohammad (saw).

That our Prophet Mohammad (saw) is Mohammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdulmuttalib ibn
Hashim ibn Abdi Manaf ibn Qusai ibn Kilab ibn Murra ibn Ilyas ibn Muddar ibn Chalib
ibn Fehr ibn Malik ibn Nadr ibn Qinana ibn Khusaima ibn Mudrika ibn Ilyas ibn Mudar
ibn Nizar ibn Maad ibn Adnan. This is the exact 20, OK? That is his lineage as has
been agreed upon and we dont have much information about all this 20. Hower have
some tibits here and there about them, our Prophet (saw) mentioned that in his
ancestry this Hadith is in Sahih Muslim, look at this Hadith and we defiantly analyze
this people that he mentioned, the Prophet (saw) said: Inalllah Wastafa Qinanata
Min Waladi Ismail Allah chose Qinana from all of the descendeds of Ismail, Wastafa
Quraishan Min Qinana he chose Quraish from Qinana Wastafa Quraishin bani
Hashim he chose the Bani Hashim from the Quraish Wastafani Bani Hashim he
chose me from the Banu Hashim. So we belive that the lineage of our Prophet saw is
the best and the most noble lineage ever. That nobody had a more noble lineage and
this was very important especially for the Arabs of his time, because for them
everything tempended upon lineage, of his status, of his nobility any cause he was
fighting for, everything deepened upon his lineage. So our Prophet (saw) was chosen
to be our best lineage. That is narrated from the Sahaba themselves, when Jaffar bin
Abi Talib said that to Najashi, what did he tell the Najashi: Allah send a Messenger
to us, we know his lineage Arafna Nasabahoo and Mughira Ibn Shuba stood in front
of Yasdijar, the last emperor of Persia, what did he tell, the last emperor he told him,
Allahi Ilayna Rajulan Maroofan, Fon Nasabahoo Wa Narifu Wa Nariji Witschahu Wa
Mawlidu Farduhu Chayrun Ardina Wa Hasabu Chayrun Hasabinah Wa Bayto
Azaamahoo Buyutinah Wabilatuhun Charun Waqabaylina Wa Qana Chayruna. So
in this Hadith he is basically saying: Allah send us a man, we know his lineage, we
know where he came from his land is the best of lands his lineage is the best of
lineage, his house (meaning his Qabila) is the best house, his tribe is the best tribe
and he himself is the best of us. The Prophet (saw) has the best of the lineage.
Pause here for a quick second, go to the tensions here, there is a lot of
misconception about our Muslim Ummah about the concept of Sharaf, the lineage,
the nobility of lineage, people really confused and messed up, we have not done the
job of explaining properly enough. Doesnt matter who your father was, Allah will not
cause you enter Jannah or Jahannam based upon your father. Your lienage is

irrelevant when you stand infront of Allah on the Day of Judgment, that much is clear,
there is no Problem about this, this doesnt mean that Nasab, Sharaf and Hasab is
irrelevant to a persons stature in this world. Rather the world universally
acknowledges lineage as something to be acceptably proud of if it is done in a
reasonable amount. If it is taken to an extreme, than it becomes Fakhar and it
becomes Haram. But it is nothing to taking some amount of happiness and nobility
and status converses to the people. So even in America, it is one of the places that
lineage is completely been destroyed, America is a land of immigrants, even in
Europe lineage carriages in some way. Even in America, you last name happened to
be Kennedy of Rockefeller you are going to go Places. Doors will open up for you, if
you like it or not, this is the reality of the world that we live in. It doesnt matter if you
are the most ignorant, uneducated person. Parents, Grandparents tribes they do
established some kind of respectability presided and it is nothing wrong accepting
this, as long it doesnt become racism and a mark of pride, what did we aspect Allah
to chose our Prophet (saw) except the best lineage in the history of Mankind.
This is the honor that is given to the Prophet Mohammad (saw). That is why (a
controversial point that many Muslims bulk at when they here and this is something
that is very clear in the Sunni traditions at least that the tribe of our Prophet (saw)
Quraysh has certain blessings and the Ahlulbayt has certain privileges and we belive
this as Sunnis event the Shia are going to an extreme, we as Sunnis conwere
privilege of the Ahlulbayt, even tough we say the Ahlulbayt will not enter Jannah if
they are not righteous. But in this world, do we not respect them more, do we not
prevent Zakat, because Zakat is not appropriate for them, it is demeaning to give
Zakat to the Ahlulbayt, we have Akhaam aswell. So the righteous amongst them
have a double reward and a double respect and the unrighteous there lineage gonna
not cause them to enter jannah. So the Ahlulbayt and the Quraish aswell , our
Prophet Mohammad said: Al Animatu Min Quraish, the leaders of my Ummah shall
always be from the Quraish, this is an Hadith. So bulk of the Ummah, the Abbasids,
the Ummayads 1500 C.E. or Khulafa where from the Quraysh. Al-Khulafa Al
Rashidoon and Zubair, Abdallah ibn Zubair, then the Omayyads , the Abbasids all
are from the Quraish. And thats a majority of the Sunni world, basically accepted this
reality.
The Prophet Mohammad (saw) said: From the children of Ismail Allah chose Kinana,
before we jump to Kinana let us talk one sentence about Muddar (one of the
ancestors as well of Prophet saw) it is said that Muddar was the first of the Arabs to
train camels and to use them in a way that they can basically travel in caravans and
he would also have camel poetry, what is camel poetry, its what you say to the
camel to go, to train the camel (go faster, go slower), as for Kinana the name means,
why he would called Kinana, because he would know for his brewery, to be a
reposidory of Ilm, of wisdom of knowledge. The history books says that people would
do Hajj to meet with Kinana (Hajj was since the time of Ismail (a.s.), to meet him was
a honour, people would have a double Niyah when doing the Hajj, he had also a long
life. Kinana was a legendary Arab upon to the time of Prophet Mohammad (saw).
Then he said: From Kinana he chose Quraysh, in the lineage of our Prophet
Mohammad (saw) is no man called Quraysh in there. Who is Quraysh?, there are
also lots of opinions. It appears that there are 3 people who be called Quraysh,
scholars says that there is the big (akbar) Quraysh, the middle (aussad) Quraysh
and the small (asghar) Quraysh, but 2 of them are the real contenders, No 1 is Fihr
and No 2 is an Nadr, No 12 (in the Lineage) or 14 on of this 2 is Quraysh, the actually
tribe of Quraysh combine at Fihr, (the 12th) and one simple fact here, the 10 who are

promised Jannah are all Qurayshi and the closest ancestor is Fihr (they are all
combine on Fihr) and at the time of Prophet Mohammad (saw) was there actually 12
or 13 tribes and they all go back to Fihr.
What is Quraysh mean? One opinion says, Quraysh come from the therm to trade,
because the Quraysh where involved in trading and the other opinion says Quraysh
Yaqrishu come from gathering together, because the Quraysh where in different
areas and one of the ancestors combines them in and the 3rd opinion (narrated in Ibn
At-Tabari) is Quraysh come from conquering, because they say Quraysh will conquer
other tribes.

Qusay
Qusay is the star of the Quraysh, that why he called the minor Quraysh, he really
started the really immediate ascends of the Quraysh, so when Prophet (saw) came
the Quraysh where at the pinnacle of their power. Qusay is the one, who began and
after 5 Generation Prophet Mohammad comes. Qusay lived around 400 C.E, i.e. 170
years before the birth of the Prophet Mohammad (saw), so what didi Qusay do, the
most important thing he did is that he resseled back the political power of Makkah to
the Quraysh, who was in Makkah at the time, there was an another tribe of the
descendants of Adnan but not of the descendants of Fihr (i.e. not a Qurayshi) and
this was the tribe of Khuzaa. Khuzaa is an another branch of the Ismail, they take of
the city of Makkah from the ancient Arabs (Ismail married into Jurhum), so the
Khuzaa overthrow them and kicked out everybody incl. Fihrs descended (the original
Quraysh), they are living in small in campants, in small outside of Makkah. So Qusay
(in a long story mentioned by Ibn Ishaq) managed to win over the tribe of Khuzaa the
chieftain of the tribe, who did he do so, by a very small tactical move, he married his
daughter, so the chieftain of Khuzaa had many sons and daughters, Qusay managed
to marry on of this daughters and he than demonstrated his skills over above the
sons even of the chieftain of Khuzaa. And therefore when the father died (now he
means Qusay is in the family) the people wanted Qusay over the sons and because
of this he managed to go to war with the other tribes and he called in the
descendants of the Quraysh (this is why the Quraysh is called the Quraysh), he
gathered together the tribes of Banu Fihr and the fought the tribes of Banu Khuzaa
(they are very distant cousins) and expelled them, so he took over Makkah, so the
great great Grandfather, 6 generations back, reclaimed Makkah for the Quraysh. So
when did they Quraysh starts to raise their power? In the time of Qusay. So what did
Qusay also do? Qusay builds the Darun Nadhwa, which was the parliament, he
builds the structure of the Darun Nadhwa, he also took custody of the Kaaba he
assigned the responsibility that trickle down, the responsibility of water, responsibility
of hospitality, the responsibility of the keys of the Kaaba, he was the one who made a
list of responsibilities, when he was alive he had it all and then amongst he sons it
was distributed. Qusay also began to taking care of the Hujjaj, Hujjaj will get free food
and water, that wasnt there before, he was a good politician and every Hajj he would
stand and the the fundraiser.
Qusay also facilitate the actual Hajj rights as well, he make the fire for the Hujjaj in
Muzdalifah, he would dig a well for the Hujjaj and this water was needed because
there was no Zamzam in the time of Qusay. Why is there no Zamzam in the time of
Qusay? Go back 1000 years ago (maybe after the time of Jesus Christ, 400 years
ago), when Khusaa attacked Jurhum and Jurhum realize that they loose they did a
very dastardly deed, they buried the well of Zamzam, they destroyed it and Khusaa

trying to find that wall and could not find it. So for over 300 years at least the people
of Makkah would forced to get water from other sources, they cant leave because
this is the house of Allah. Qusay was buried at Hujoon, Hujoon is the famous
graveyard of Makkah and Qusay was the first person to buried over there and also to
this day Hujoon is the most famous graveyard of Makkah he is still buried there to
this day.
His son Abdil Manaf (is actual name of Mughira), Manaf means that which is raised,
Abdil Manaf was known for his handsomeness and his leadership skills, he became
famous even in the lifetime of Qusays, Abdil Manaf was handed many responsibilitys
and he was beloved to the people.
Hashim (from there we get Banu Hashim), Hashim was not his name it was his title,
his name is Amr and the word Hashim comes from Hashama which means the
Grind because he would grind the barly and present food to the pilgrims, his name
was Amr and he would called Hashim because of his generosity. Hashim never ever
ate food alone, when he was every eating food, he would called anybody to eat with
him, that was his generosity. Hashim did perhaps the most important thing to raise
the economic level of the Quraysh, his grandfather Qusay raised the political level of
the Quraysh by capturing Makkah. Hashim instituted Rihlataschitaa I Wasaif he was
the one of thought of the Idea. He had a very simple Idea, that everybody is coming
to us, the Hajj, why we dont give them the stuff, we have the market, its all here in
front of us, people are there, why would we sell them the merchandise that they
need, If you want Indian stuff you must go to Yemen, in Yemen there are the ships
coming you can have spices, and you have African stuff coming in to Yemen, when
you go to Yemen you would get the Indian and the African Stuff. You can go up North
and you can get the Roman and Persian Goods, because there is this Silk Roud, it
went throw Damascus and Basra, there was on the Road on the Silk Road (its the
famous Road of Caravan, he hooked up to the Silk Road and made a lifeline all the
way to Yemen) and smack in the middle is Makkah so Makkah became on the Grid it
is connected to the lifeline, so Hashim became extremely wealthy, because he feed
all of his pilgrims and Allah mentioned to the Quraysh that I blessed you with this. A
whole Surah is Revealed, the 106th Surah Quraysh.- I am the one who gave you
the money, so that you are no longer hungry, so that you are no longer fearful, I gave
you the protection of the Kaaba it is so said that Hashim understood that because he
is from the Quraysh and because he is the neighbors of Makkah, nobody would harm
them, so he took advantage of the fact that in a lawless society him being from the
Quraysh from Makkah actually gave him protection, nobody will robbed the caravan,
even the pagans felt, that his people are too holy for us. So Allah says Liilafi
Quraysh this honor, this sanctity, custom, who gave it to you and it is also said, that
hi stroke a deal with the king of Rome and Yemen, to protect them and their lands,
he is a business man. Qusay did the politics, Hashim did the wealth, Abdul Muttalib
did the prestige and the Zamzam, everyone of the ancestors of the Prophet
Mohammad (saw) change the course of the history. They are building up. Each of the
ancestors of the Prophet (saw) are doing what is absolutely amazing.
Hashim was extremely wealthy, this wealth created jealousy, especially to his brother
Abdi Shams (nephew Umayyah Bin Abdi Shams) and there is rivalry between the
Abu Umayyah and the Banu Hashim, they would continue up unto Islam and PostIslam, the Abassids and the Umyyads that rivalry was established in his time.
Hashim married a number of women, one of his wives and the the great grandmother
of the Prophet (saw) was from Yathrib (that was what Allah had planned). Why would
a person from Makkah marry somebody from Yathrib? So that 3 generations from

them, the Prophet (saw) would have descendants, 3 rd cousins amongst the Ansaar.
So Hashim married from Yathrib and he died on a trading trip to Ghaza and there is a
Masjid to this Day called Masjid ul Sayyad Hashim and that is why Ghaza is
sometimes also called Ghaza to Hashim, the famous Ghaza, Hashim is buried
there. So he died far far away. So the wive took the son to his hometown to Yathrib
and so the Prophets (saw) Grandfather raised in the very city he would migrate to,
thats Allahs plan.
Prophet Mohammads Grandfather is Abdul Muttalib, his real name is Shaybatul
Hamd, (Shayba of Praise) Shayba is white hair, that all have, he was born with a
white hair (on the head a streak), he grew up in Yathrib, because his father passed
away, his mother dont even tell his uncles when she was pregnant, because she
was worried that the child would taken away, his husband died then he went back to
Yathrib, the child is born there, she is happy because he is save. One day it is says
that the Uncle of Shaybatul Hamd his name is Muttalib , was visiting Yathrib, he saw
Shaybatul Hamd and he says: This is my blood this is a Qurayshi, this is my
nephew, he made a plot and abducted the child. When the people saw him with a
young lad, they assumed that it was purchased. That is why he called him Abd
Abdul Muttalib, Muttalib is his uncle, the name stocked. Abdul Muttalib lived the age
of 100 (when the normaly age of this time was 40 or 50 years). Haris was his eldest.
Zubair, Abdullah and Abu Talib where form the same mother, then Abbas and Dirrar
from an another mother. Hamza and Muqawa min Hajjar from an another mother and
Abu Lahab (all by himself) from an another mother. And he has 6 daughters Tia,
Safiyaa (the only one who accepted Islam), from the other aunts (of Prophet
Mohammad saw) we only know Attiqa who was alive when Prophet Mohammad
(saw) began preaching and then she disappears from the Seerah, we dont know if
she accepted Islam. And then we have Umme Hakeem, Ummaymah (the mother
of Zainab Bint Jahsh, his fathers, sisters daughter, his cousin, and then we have
Arwa and Barra, these are the 6 daughters of Abdul Muttalib.
The final story is the story of Abraha. Abraha was the governor under Najashi, (not
the same sahabi that the Prophet Mohammad saw emigrated to) his father, Najashi
would conquer of Yaman, he would send his governor, his governor was Abraha,
Abraha was the governor of the Najashi in Yemen, he saw his people every year go
north. He build a cathedral in Yemen, it would become the biggest temple in
chrisitanity in the Arabian Peninsula and he then said all of them must come over
here. Because he was from Abbisinia he had Elephants (otherwise Elephants dont
live in the Arabian Peninsula.
Abdul Muttalib was a tall man, maybe 6 foot tall. He was handsome, a handsome
person, he looked like a leader. He sit down with Abraha (the Chief of Makkah) as a
manor of respect.

Every person of the lineage of the Prophet Mohammad (saw) established something
of an momentous value. Clearly when we understand why the Prophet Mohammad
(saw) has noble lineage.
Prophet Mohammad (saw) says also : Im the prophet, Im the son of Abdul
Muttalib he is invoking his lineage here, because the Quraysh was still new in Islam.
He is saying that Im the grandson of the person, that you are so proud of. There was
no chieftain in Arabia that has this prestige that Abdul Muttalib had, not just because

of him, because of his father, his grandfather, grand grand father . . All of this is the
preparing of the Prophet Mohammad (saw). 2 of the ancestors of the Prophet
Mohammad (saw) was recent of, was saved, the beginning (Ismail) and the end
(Abdullah) was ransomed of.
Allah (swt) is also protecting the prophet Mohammad (saw). Allah is defending the
Haram, Aminah must have been pregnant with our Prophet saw, when the incident of
Al-Fil (as mentioned in the Surah Al-Fil) must happened, our Prophet Mohammad
(saw) was in the womb of Aminah, there is also a huge symbolism here, Allah himself
protects, not just the Kaaba but our Prophet Mohammad (saw). This is to indicate
that Allah says that there would be come who is worthy of the Kaaba in the Future.
