For thousand of years people dreame of having the ability to fly. The
aero plane developed from the ideas. discoveries and failures of many
people. for hundreds of years men had watched the flight of birds and
tried to think of ways by which they too, might soar through the skies. The
first flying machine is built by two American brothers: Wilbur and Orville
Wright. It had 2 wings of about 12 meters span, twin propellers, and an
elevator tail that moved like a rudder. On December 17 , 1903, the Wright
Brothers were ready to make a trial flight and they succeeded. Orville took
off, rose to height of nearly 3 meters and flew over 35 meters. The flight
took 59 seconds. This events is known as the worlds first successful air
flight. In present, aero planes was playing a very important role to connect
one place to anoter. People can go round the world just in a two day flight
by the worlds first supersonic airliner, Concorde which flies at a height of
over 18,000 meters and reaches speeds of over 2.000 kilometers per
hour.For indonesian, the airlines begin was marked by the historical

maiden commercial flight of the countrys first airplane, Dakota R. J -001

Seulawah , a D. C. 3, on January 26, 1949, from Burma (now
Myanmar).The plane, originally designed for official flights in the late
President Sukarno, flew commercially under the initiative of its pilot,
whom was stranded in India December 1948 following Indonesias post
independence clash with the colonial Dutch.The plane were having a
complete overhaul at Calcuttas airport when the crew found themselves
unable to communicate with they home base in Yogyakarya due to the
war.At the time. the Dutch had destroyed Indonesian airports and make all
airspace impregnable. after running out of funds and dreaming of more
planes, the pilot several Indonesian decide to ofer the Seulawah for
commercial services.The crews request to take part in Indias business
flights was rejcted by that countrys governments. However, their plea to
the Burmese government were accepted. Under the name of Indonesian
Airways, Seulawah and its crew were hired by the Union of Burma Airways
for Burmas military and civilian oprations.The name Seulaweh was give to
the plane to honor Aceh traders on the northern tip of sumatra, who has
raised funds totaling 130.000 straits dollars and 20 kilogram of gold for
the purchase of the used Dakota plane in Singapore, Seulaweh, meaning
Golden Mountain, is the name of a mountain in Aceh.
