EARTHING SYSTEM INSTALLATION AND TESTING.

5.1.1

The responsibility for carrying out this Method Statement shall be that of the
Discipline Engineer/ Foremen, unless otherwise specifically mentioned in this
procedure. The Quality Engineer/ Discipline Engineer/ Foremen shall be
responsible for inspection & testing.

5.1.2

Contract specific requirements for installation and testing of earthing system,

if any specified shall be identified and the requirements of such specification
shall prevail in addition to the non-conflicting requirements of this procedure.

5.2

Earthing Pit, Earth Electrode and Grid Installation

5.2.1

The location of the Earth Pits shall be identified from the earthing layout
drawings and the location in the field shall be suitably marked.

5.2.2

The Earth Pits shall be made as per specifications / standard drawings. On

completion of the Earth Pit, the dimensions shall be checked for
conformance with the specifications/drawings.

5.2.3

The Earth Electrode(s) shall be placed in the pit prepared and shall be filled
with nther filler materials in layers as specified in the specification.

5.2.4

The Earth Electrode shall be of the type and material of construction

specified. On completion of the Earth Electrode(s) and filler material
installation, the earth pit chamber shall be constructed/installed in
conformance with the specification / drawings.

5.2.5

If more than one earth pit is existing in an Earthing System then all the Earth
Electrodes shall be interconnected using earthing conductors of the type and
material of construction specified in the drawings / specifications to form the
earth grid.

5.2.6

The Earthing Conductors shall be connected with earth electrodes in

accordance with the termination details specified. Removable link shall be
provided between the earthing conductors and the earth electrode.

5.3

Equipment Earthing

5.3.1

All equipment requiring earthing shall be identified from the earthing layout
drawings.

5.3.2

Earthing conductors of the type and material specified in the specifications/

drawings shall be used for connecting equipment with the earth grid.

5.3.3

The termination of earthing conductor with the equipment and with the
earthing grid shall be provided in compliance with the termination details
specified.

Testing

5.4.1

Reinstatement of Earth Electrodes and Earthing Grid

5.4.1.1 Earth resistance shall be measured for individual electrodes separately and
after interconnecting all the earth electrodes (earth grid) in an earthing
system. The earth resistance for individual electrodes shall be carried out
prior to the interconnection of earth pits or after removing the removable link.
5.4.1.2 Checks carried out and the resistance measured shall be recorded in Earth
Electrode Test Sheet, M & E QC~Form- 003-01/ REV. 0.
5.4.2

Earth Resistance for Equipments

5.4.2.1
The Earth Resistance shall be measured between the individual
equipments
and the earth grid. The measured resistance value shall be recorded in an
Earthing Resistance Check - Equipment Form No. M & E-QC~Form- 003-02/
REV. 0.
5.5

Acceptance

5.5.1

The applicable forms as indicated above shall be filled in and signed off by
