1. [Creating a New Project]
Organize your files in Premiere in the same way you organized them in Audition. Remember to
keep all your assets in the same folder on the same levelalso remember to backup your video
files!
Click New Project on the title screen (you can open recent projects from this same screen once
you begin creating).
o Settings Screen: Just leave them for now. You do want to save this project with a nice
specific name (ideally, lastname_Project3) and make sure you save it in the same folder as
your video files.
Make your interface darker: Premiere Pro>Preferences>Appearance>Lower brightness

2. [Importing Media: Importer]
Right-Click in the Importer pane; or use the media browser tab; or click the import media
button.
You can import video files, audio files, or images all in this same way.
Double-click on whatever you want to put into your project to send it to the Source Editor.

3. [Selecting Video: Source Editor]
Once you have your media in the Source Editor pane, you can select the portion of the video that
you want to put in your final project. To do so, move your playhead (the yellow moving triangle)

to where you want your clip to start and press i for in (or use the left most { button) then mark
where you want your clip to end by moving the playhead and pressing o for our (or click the }
button).
Click on the video (the image) and drag it into the Timeline pane.
Theres two buttons in the bottom center of the Source Editor (a film icon and a sound wave icon)
if you click and drag those icons you can add audio only or video only.
You can also right click on the video you want to add and select insert, and the program will
automatically add the clip at the playhead without overwriting other video (see ripple trim),
which is a really nice option.

4. [Trimming Video: Timeline]
Change your normal trim to a ripple trim by going to the Premiere Pro Menu>Preferences>Trim
and clicking the allow roll and ripple check box
There are a couple ways to trim video in Premiere. First, you can use the razor tool, just like you
did in Audition, to split clips apart, and then delete the segments you dont need.
o You can also split the clip at the playhead by clicking [Control/command K] You will split a
clip in the Timelines pane but you see where you are in the video and can set the playhead
simultaneously in the Preview pane.
o Ripple Delete (Shift Delete/option delete): Deletes and doesnt leave a gap
If you want to see where you are in the video (images) in the Timeline pane, you must drag up on
the track you are editing to expand it vertically. You can expand the track horizontally (zoom in)
by using the gray slider at the bottom of the Timeline pane.

5. [Importing and Editing Sound]
Import audio the same way you imported video.
Drag the audio track you want into the track marked A2, A3, etc.
To see the audio waveform, drag the track wider vertically.
You can raise and lower the volume by using the white line in the same way you did in Audition.
To add sound points/keyframes like you did in Audition, use the pen tool to draw dots.
If, for some reason, you decide later you want to delete either the video or the audio or edit them
separately, simply right click on the video a select unlinkthis is especially useful for creating
cutaway shots in which the audio (an interview, for instance) continues but the video changes.

6. [Titles: For More Specifics on Titles see Titles Video]
Tip: Below many options in the FX panels there is a line of yellow dots, this is actually a slider that
makes it much easier to adjust things.
Move playhead over image you want as title or you can add some Black Video a black screen to
put the title over, by using the new item button (the folded paper to the left of the trash can) in the
Importer pane (this new item button allows you to add a count in and a bunch of other effects
screens).

in the audio trackif this line is not there, right click on the FX button in the top left-hand corner
of your clip. This is a fader line. You can add keyframes to this line using the pen tool and quickly

the scale of each clip to 50% by clicking the Effects control tab in the Source Editor and using the
scale slider under motion category in video effects. You can also click on the word motion which
allows you to move the videos around and scale them freely. Then apply the Transform>Crop
effect to each video and adjust the width. To do so go to the Effects tab in the Importer
pane>Video Effects>Transform>Select Crop>Drag the crop icon onto both videos. Select one video
clip in your Timeline, then click on the Effect Controls button in the Source editor and use the left
and right crop slider to adjust your videos even further.
