Commendation
awarded to

Detective Johnny Alemany

On January 9, 2015, Brookhaven Police responded to an armed robbery at the Chevron Gas Station located at 2289 N. Druid Hills Rd. The investigation and
surveillance footage revealed that a young white male dressed in all black brandished a black and silver handgun and demanded money from the Clerk. The
male left in a white Ford Ranger (single cab). The store clerk advised that the truck possibly had a GA Tech tag.
Based on information gathered and provided by Crime Analyst Esque, Lt. Oliver and Detective Alemany met with Lilburn Detective Ross. Through information
sharing information and the suspects probation officer, it was determined that the suspect had changed his probation address from his parents home in Lilburn
to a drug rehab facility in Gainesville.
A search of his Lilburn residence revealed money bands in the white Ford Ranger and $300.00 in cash. Inside the residence a Georgia Bulldog hat that the male
was wearing during the bank robbery was located in plain view in Mr. Hawkins bedroom. Mr. Hawkins was detained and taken to Lilburn PD for questioning
where he confessed to the two convenience store robberies and the bank robbery.
Detective Johnny Alemany is a prime example of the level of exemplary professionalism, knowledge and dedication of the men and women that comprise the

BROOKHAVEN POLICE DEPARTMENT

Commendation
awarded to

Kathy Esque
On February 16, 2015, uniformed officers along with Crime Scene and Detectives responded at the Lila Clothing Boutique in reference to an armed robbery.
They were able to obtain video footage of the robbery and also spoke to several witnesses.
Crime Analyst Kathy Esque was able to review the still photographs and provide an investigative lead and the possible identity of the suspect as Rodney Cannon.
She was able to determine that he was wearing similar clothing and possibly leaving in the same get-a-way car from previous armed robberies that he committed
in the Metro Atlanta Area. After requesting data from surrounding jurisdictions in reference to Cannon, she forwarded all the information to the Detective Tom
Martin and through his investigation, was able to issue warrants on the suspect. The U.S. Marshals Office is actively pursuing every lead to locate this subject
and bring him into custody.
Through her tenacity, attention to detail and communication with other agencies, Crime Analyst Esque was able to identify and subsequently lead to warrants
being issued on the suspect.
Her outstanding job performance with the City of Brookhaven Police Department is another example of the quality of professionalism that embodies the City of
Brookhaven Police Department.

surveillance footage revealed that a young white male dressed in all black brandished a black and silver handgun and demanded money from the Clerk. The

Also during the month of January, a Shell gas station located on Clairmont Road in Dekalb and a Wells Fargo Bank located on Hwy. 29 in Lilburn also had
armed robberies which suggested, based on the video surveillance and BOLO from Lilburn that it was highly likely the same suspect responsible for all three
robberies.
Crime Analyst Kathy Esque conducted an off line search with the partial tag obtained from DeKalb PDs BOLO. With the information provided in the off line
search she was able to develop a person of interest, matching the suspect description, who lived in Lilburn, GA. This information was relayed to Detective
Johnny Alemany and Lieutenant Tyrone Oliver along with a photo, DL information, and prior booking information from Gwinnett PD, for further follow up
investigation.
Through her tenacity, attention to detail and communication with other agencies, Crime Analyst Esque was able to identify and subsequently lead to warrants
being issued on the suspect. The information provided by Crime Analyst Esque was paramount in allowing investigators to link all three robberies together and
obtaining a search warrant for the suspect.
