ATHI RUDRA MAHA YAGNAM&
SHATHA CHANDI MAHA YAGNAM
Our Motherland, Bharata Khanda, is a Karma Bhoomi. The Vedic Tradition, the Cultural Richness,
the Unity in Diversity and the Peace loving people cannot be compared to any other country in the world.
The Rishis and Maha-purushas made it a star, a crest-jewel in the crown of the Universe.
Originally, the Vedas - the collection of Mantras by various Rishis - were in single form. For the ease of
handling, Sage Krishna Dwaipayana codified it into four - Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana and therefore
attained the title Veda Vyasa. The Veda Mantras were drawn by the Rishis by their Tapas and imparted
to their sishyas and sishya paramparas. The Vedas were not authored by any human personality - they
were revealed to the Rishis by the Lord.
Sri Rudram, the prayer to Lord Siva, is perhaps the most popular and efficacious among the Vedic hymns.
It occurs in the middle of the Taitriya Samhita of Sri Krishna Yajur Veda. It speaks of Lord Siva's several
forms, His omniscience, His omnipresence and His omnipotence, in choice and sweet pada renderings.
The Athi Rudra Maha Yagna is the supreme form of worship to Lord Siva. It is a very rare
opportunity to participate in or witness "The Athi Rudra Maha Yagna" in ones lifetime.
As per our Acharyas "The four Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva) are the roots of our religion and
foundation for Sanatan Dharma. Krishna Yajur Veda, one of the 2 Samhitas (versions) of Yajur Veda is
quite significant, of which Rudram and Chamakam are a part.
Rudram is the most sacred means of worshipping Lord Siva. There are four kinds of Rudra parayana and
Homams: Rudram (11 times), Ekadasa Rudram (11X11=121), Maha Rudram (121X11=1331) and Athi
Rudram (1331X11=14641); each has greater significance than its preceding one. 'Athi' means
"ultimate". Therefore, Athi Rudram is the supreme form of worship of Lord Siva. Athi Rudram is a
destroyer of all sorrows and the provider of 'Kshema'."
