STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

I strongly believe that success is a joint result of both holistic development and
academic growth of a person. Having been raised in a family that believes in the
importance of overall development, I have always been encouraged to follow my
dreams and work hard to turn my dreams into reality. I studied at Welham Girls
School for 8 years, one of the best boarding schools in the country. After High
School, I attended Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, one of
the finest universities in the country. This is where I completed an honours
degree in commerce. Thereafter, I took a year off to spend time volunteering at
non-governmental organisations. I also felt the need to take this year off and
spend time with myself doing things that matter the most to me. I taught English
at a school for under privileged children and worked at a no-kill animal shelter
and helped find loving homes for several dogs and cats. I truly believe that this
experience has imbibed great values in me and has helped me grow as a human
being. I also used this last year to travel the world. I also visited several places
around the world. My travels included several places in the United States of
America, a few places in South East Asia and a few cities in the United Kingdom.
While visiting the UK, I got a chance to explore a few universities and realised
how the country was the ideal platform for me to pursue my dream and realize
my true potential. I was highly inspired by the poise and the dignity with which
the students carried themselves.
In 2010, I took a semester abroad at U.C. Berkeley, California. While at the
university, I did a full unit course in Marketing. The course helped me achieve a
great deal of knowledge about the aspects, requirements and benefits of
marketing. It was then that I realised that I wanted to study marketing in greater
detail. Obtaining a degree in marketing would help me understand the
conceptual and practical side of marketing and will ultimately help me seek
employment in a large corporation where I eventually would like to work with the
marketing department. India is a developing country and has various kinds of
consumers. Having the correct skills would help me reach every section of the
society in a way that would most appeal to them. I would like to make use of this
resource your university has to offer and ultimately try to improve the work
culture in my country.
While interning with the Royal Bank of Scotland, Kolkata, in 2009, I interacted
with several people in the corporate world. These interactions with different
levels of the workforce helped me get a better understanding of employee
behaviour and improved my inter-personal skills with other staff members. It
showed the practical side of marketing and helped me learn several aspects of
working with the corporate world. It also developed in me, several skills such as,
time management, team work, dedication and perseverance.
All through High School and college, I have contributed to several events like
Sports Day, Founders Day, and have participated in several inter house and inter
school competitions involving art and music. I also attended many school trips

and was never afraid to interact with people and learn everything they had to
offer.
I truly believe that the Masters Program from your University will fortify me with t
he professional expertise required in order to be successful in the global market
place. I seek to benefit from your university has to offer by combining classroom
learning with its practical application. Studying alongside a diverse student
population, having different perspectives, will prove to be greatly beneficial in
the long run. This can only be achieved at your esteemed university.
