Motivation letter
Banja Luka, February 17, 2015.

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Nenad Radovi and I am a student apsolvent of undergraduate studies at the Faculty
of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Banja Luka. Although it is not deeply connected to
my studies, photography was always my love. Interest for taking pictures came over me since I
was kid. I used to shot with old Practica from my father. I decided to apply for this programme
since currently I have feeling that my photography knowledge needs help in further development.
During my one-month internship in Germany, I got opportunity to research more about
photography. During that period, I bought my first Nikon DSLR camera and started to make
pictures more intensively. In the beginning, I learned a lot about technical aspects of photography,
but later on, I noticed that it is just tip of the ice berg. After coming back home in Banja Luka, I
continued to work on my photography skills, so I applied for two month course of photography in
University photo-cinema club. It was huge experience for me to learn from experienced
photographers and to work with analog equipment. After I finished my course successfully, I was
invited to join club and to continue to work on improvement of my skills. Until now, I took part in
more international exhibitions organized in region. Besides, I made photo assignments for Faculty
of Mechanical engineering in Banja Luka, Zoran ini foundation in Belgrade, several musicians
here in Banja Luka and other clients. During this period, I noticed that especially street
photography and photojournalism are the ones Im most interested in, so currently Im trying to
focus more on this areas of photography. I find particularly interesting taking pictures of
musicians, folk traditions and customs and generally people in relation with surroundings. I find
work of Josef Koudelka, Robert Frank, Margaret Bourke-White, and Serbian photographer El
Gvojos especially interesting for me.
Since I tried to read as much as possible about photography, as well as to explore famous
photographers, in future I would like to learn more things practical. I have plan for this summer to
make a trip through forgotten regions of Bosnia&Herzegovina in order to take pictures of people,
customs and environment. Long-term plan is to visit my father who works in Zambia, and to try to
take pictures of areas which are usually not available to the normal tourists.
I shall conclude this letter, in which have I set out briefly my thoughts and reasons as to why you should
take my application into consideration, by expressing my hope that this short letter will be sufficient
for you to invite me to the workshop, as this programme is of great interest to me.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Nenad Radovi

Vespa pair
Although I rarely take
photos
of
wedding
couples, this one was
exception. Gianni, Italian
guy and Iskra, girl from
Banja Luka shared their
happiness
with

members of family one
rainy September day.
Gianni used his Italian
charm and small Vespa to
convince
Iskra
that
driving with him in the
future will be best choice
for her.

Rovers on Trebinjica river

Trebinje is most beautiful city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in my opinion. Placed on river Trebinjica,
beneath Leotar hill from one side and Popovo polje field on other, it has unique landscape to offer.
Especially dusks are beautiful there! This photo was taken in September last year, during casual walk
in Trebinje streets.

Marija
If you have to ask what
jazz is, you'll never know.,
someone said.
Marija knows very good
what jazz is, and she made
me very hard task of trying
to capture some of
emotions she generously
shared with audience that
night.

Holiday rush hour

Warm colours, hot wine and
Christmas
decoration

embrace of holidays.

Street musicians
Usually, when I take pictures
of musicians, Im trying to
present emotion and impact
they
are
making
on
audience. This time I tried to
take a photo from their
position, to show what is
going on in front of their
eyes and minds during they
play.

Countryside children
This picture was taken during winter holidays this year. I was hosted for a hot drink by one family in
mountain village in eastern part of Bosnia. Since I was delighted to see kids there, I tried to capture
part of the atmosphere of kids playing in old house.

Together
Around 10 years ago, competition in horse strength called traparijada is established in western part
of Bosnia. Later on, it was spread all across the country, so I had an opportunity to visit one which took
place on mountain Romanija. I took lot of photos on that day, most of them trying to point on
relationship between man and his horses. Beauty of this competition is in chance for ordinary people
to see part of everyday fork for those people and their horses.

Embracing the art

Recently, I visited exhibition of
the sculptures made by
Yugoslavian sculptor Vojin
Bakic. This man was particularly
interested in most of the works,
so I decided to take a picture of
him near model and pictures of
construction
of
famous
Monument to the victory of the
people of Slavonia.

Rambo
Picture of Serbian singer Rambo Amadeus from his concert in national park Sutjeska in Bosnia and
Herzegovina. He is doing what he does best - his famous interaction with audience by mixture of music,
speech and singing.

Legende
This concert was first time I felt challenge and beauty in taking pictures of musicians. It was
concert of Belgrade group called Legende and it was held in Sava center in Belgrade
beginning of 2013.

Stop!
This picture was taken at Krajina square in Banja Luka. There was a dance show with aim to point
to the increase in violence against women.

How much?
How much our word is worth? stands on the paper. Picture taken during student protests against
corruption and generally poor state of society, which took place in May and June 2013.

Christmas preparations
Christmas celebrations within the Orthodox society are very important for the people. There are
numerous customs, beliefs and traditions connected to it.
In this part of my portfolio, I will try to present preparation of the Christmas roast through eight
pictures. They are all taken during holidays in January 2014.

Market day in Trebinje

End of last year, I visited Trebinje, southernmost city in Republic of Srpska. Agriculture is important
part of peoples lives in this area, so every Saturday there is market holding on at the main city square.
People are selling mostly home made products: cheese, smoked meet, fruits and vegetables, fish and
similar. Lot of customers come from near by city of Dubrovnik (CRO) and Herceg Novi (MNE), so besides
various offer of the products, here you can meet lot of different people.
In my previous visit to this city, I noticed very interesting atmosphere for photographer, so I decided
this time to get up early and spend whole day taking pictures on market.
