TESTING AND COMMISSIONING FOR FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

1. SPRINKLER SYSTEM
At least 3 people are required for the testing. One at every room (pump room and control room) and
the other at the sprinkler head location.
a) Check all delivery and suction valves at pump room and main stop valve at valve room fully
opened.
b) Open the 3 test valve at valve room until the sprinkler alarm gong sounds.
c) Check that the electrical pump set is operational upon opening the test valve and sounding of the
sprinkler alarm gong.
d) After about one minute close the test valve and manually stop the electrical pump set at control
panel by pressing the stop buttons.
e) Repeat the above again to test the change over.
f) This time during the electrical pump set churning period, shut off the electrical incoming power
supply at the control panel by moving the isolator to off position and immediately the standby
pump set is in operational and immediately check that the sprinkler alarm gong sounding at the
valve room. Let it run for one minute, after that close the test valve.
g) Check that the lines are fully pressurized to the same reading before stopping the pump set.
h) Select one most remote sprinkler to be broken. Check the operation of the pump.
i) Test the flow switch which is linked to the main Fire Alarm Panel.

2. WET RISER
At least 4 (four) people are required for the testing. One at every room (pump room and control room)
and the others at the wet riser landing valves.

Manually, test run the pump set by pressing the respective switch on the pump starter panel.
Connect up the rubber-lined hose to the pressure reducing landing valve.
Unroll the hose and place nozzle at a safe distance so as not to cause any damage.
Open up the valve and water will discharge out from nozzle.
The throw should be about 100 ft.
The jockey pumpset should come into operation upon opening the landing valve.
The duty pumpset will automatically come into operation one the valve is fully opened.
Switch off duty pumpset and test standby pumpset.
Close the landing valve and disconnect hose from landing valve. Roll back the hose.
Check that the system is pressurized back to the correct pressure.
Repeat for the other stacks.
Check indication of pump run at the control console.

3. HOSE REEL SYSTEM

Three (3) people are required to carry out the testing. One at every room (pump room and control room)
and the other at the hose reel location.
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)
f)

Open the stop valve at the hose reel.

Reel out the hose from the hose drum.
Turn on the spray nozzle and observe that the throw should not be less than 20 ft.
Check that the duty pump set is in operation after the nozzle is turned on.
After test, shut off the nozzle and reel back the hose. Close off the stop valve.
Check pressure reducing valve to be in good order.

4. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM

Two (2) personnel are required for the testing. One stationed at the fire alarm console and the other at
any chosen zone to actuate the alarm.
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)

Check all indicating lights on the fire alarm console are in good condition.
Unscrew the breakglass cover and removed the glass to actuate the alarm.
Sound should sound/flashing light should flash.
Fix back cover and check correct zone is indicated at the panel.
i). Test smoke detectors by stimulating it with smoke tester.
ii). Test the heat detectors by stimulating it with hair dryer blow.
f) Check correct indication at the panel.
g) Re-set the system and return it to normal position.
h) Check all is in correct order.
i) The above test upon sounding alarm should also actuate the following :i. De-magnetizes the magnetic door holder.
ii. Lifts return to lower ground level.
iii. Initiate pressurization fan.
iv. Shut down air conditioning system.

5. AUTOMATIC CO2 GAS/HI-FOG SYSTEM

a.
b.

c.
d.
e.

Remove the electrical connection from discharge plug and attach test light to connector.
Test manual operation by removing the glass and switch on the key to actuate gas. Test
bulb should light up and gas actuated is indicated on the panel and a similar signal is
monitored at the main Fire Alarm. Re-set it after test.
Test automatic operation by actuating the smoke detectors. The detectors can be actuated
by stimulating it with smoke. After a time delay, similar indication as in. (b)
After test, re-set the panel and connect back the electrical connector to the discharge plug.
Check through again to see all is in order.
