Why Join A Committee

Committees serve a number of important roles to our association

process and the Board of Directors:
Committees serve as a training ground for future association
leaders.
Committees serve as a conduit through which the Board receives "grass root" inputopinions and attitudes of owners.
Committees are a vehicle through which Board actions are explained.
Committees enhance the effectiveness of the Board of Directors
by providing research analysis and advice needed for policy decisions.
Committees can be an instrument for initial implementation of
Board policies such as with the Architectural Review Committee.
Committees are an important linkage between the Board of Directors and owners but in order to be effective committees need
members! Owner input, involvement and participation is a must.
Please consider participating in the association process and volunteering to serve on an association committee. Our community
needs you!

State of the Neighborhood

Dear Neighbors,
As you know, a
new Board of Directors was
elected last year in
early September.
Since then we
have seen a flurry of activity in response to many issues expressed
by those in attendance during our
last general meeting in September.
After speaking with other H.O.A.
representatives from neighborhoods throughout District 10, I was
very pleased to hear just how well
we are doing by comparison. For
example, one neighborhood has
more than 700 homes but could
only find 2 individuals willing to volunteer in maintaining the common
grounds. Stonewood has under
200 homes, and currently we have
13 volunteers on our Beautification
team!
So what have we been doing
since the election? We have cut
costs by removing the gentleman
in charge of maintaining our common grounds. This action has
saved us $150 - $250/month. We
have developed committees. We
have been working with our local
councilman and area police officers
to ensure Stonewood is moving in
a direction that will ultimately result
in a cleaner, safer neighborhood.
We have met many of neighbors
and formed many new friendships
while watching the community
grow closer together.
We are all proud to serve you.
We are all proud of the results

weve seen in the last 5 months. As

we move forward we are seeking to
inspire as much participation as we
can from as many as are willing in
Stonewood. If you are interested in
joining us, listed below are the newly
established committees with contact
information for the team leader of
each committee.
The Beautification Committee
Currently has two teams rotating biweekly to maintain the common
grounds as well as developing programs such as yard of the month.
Contact Jerry by email:

The Social Committee Currently
developing social gatherings such as
N.N.O. and the Breakfast with
Santa that have had much success
recently. This committee will also be
developing a Welcome to the
Neighborhood program. Contact
Amber by email: amber.m.pearson@hotmail.com
The Neighborhood Watch committee Currently working with local law
enforcement to increase safety as
well as decrease unwanted activity
such as drug use and graffiti. Also
responsible for our participation in
the C.O.P. program. Contact Adriana by email: sweetcaroline@yahoo.com
God bless you and your family.
Sincerely,

Chris Doyle
President, Stonewood H.O.A.

March is a Great
Month To ...
Get a jump-start on your spring garden by starting seeds in your garden
window so that you'll have seedlings
ready to plant as soon as the ground
is ready. Garden supply stores and
seed catalogs stock treated soil mixtures that are especially conducive to
starting seeds, as well as biodegradable cardboard containers to plant
them in. Once you've sown the seeds,
set them in a bright south window and
think spring.
Start planning for your summer vacation. Check out the Sunday travel
section of the newspaper. Send for
brochures of faraway places with
strange sounding names. Maybe
you're willing to save up for an extra
special vacation next year, and make
this the year you visit interesting
places in your own hometown. Visitors to San Antonio get excited about
the places we see everyday and
sometimes take for granted.
Go on a money diet. Self-made,
wealthy Americans have a few selfimposed rules in common; namely,
they live below their means, they
budget their spending, they have a
disciplined investment plan, they take
on debt very sparingly, they participate in serious tax-sheltering, they
get help from a professional financial
advisor, and they own their own business. None of these things are possible without adhering to the first rule:
live below your means. That will make
possible the investing, avoidance of
debt, sheltering of funds, the need for
a financial advisor, and the ability to
own a business. Make this your
motto for the year: "Use it up, wear it
out, make do, or do without."
