Considerations for CV presentation
1. Format - use a standard word template with the font size Calibri 10. Do not use
other elaborate fonts, colour and boxes to make your CV stand out as it may be
off-putting to a recruiter.
2. Keep to the point - be ruthless and keep your CV to a maximum of two pages.
Avoid starting each sentence in the first person. Instead use phrasing such as
experienced ESOL lecturer working in an established Further Education College.
3. Use relevant keywords - jobs are advertised through job boards and online
recruiters. Keywords are entered into databases to find the most relevant
jobseekers, keywords will include specific qualifications like ESOL or specific job
titles like Lecturer or Further Education. Make sure your CV mirrors the
language used in the advert.
4. Capture immediate attention - prioritise the content of your CV and detail the
most relevant information first. Explain how you meet the criteria in your CV; do
not expect the recruiter to read between the lines to work out whether you have
the right qualifications and experience etc.
5. Check and re-check proof read thoroughly for correct spelling and grammar.
Spotting errors is a quick and easy way for recruiters to weed out weaker
candidates when faced with a mountain of CVs to read.
