How to grow as a new convert

Aim: To help new converts to grow in their relationship with


Christ
Age group: Deaf students ages 18-25 years
Duration: 6 weeks
Time: Tuesday at 5pm
Methodology: visual, gesture, sign language material

Introduction
The aim of this course is to allow the Deaf people to grow in
their relationship in Christ. As a new convert the person will
need the sincere milk of the word which will enable them to
grow. The Deaf will be taught through sign language and videos
if available.
Week 1
What is this relationship?
The Deaf during this lesson will understand what is that they
have done by accepting Christ as Lord and as the one who dead
to redeem them from sin.
The new convert will be reassured of his/her relationship with
Christ through the word of God. The scripture that can be used
is 1 John 5:11-12,2Cor 5:17, and Ephesians 2:13.
The concepts that will be explained in this class will be

Eternal life given through Jesus Christ when accepted


Christ as Lord , have faith in Jesus finish work on the cross
One has moved from darkness into light
Depend on the grace of God to help you to live and follow
Jesus Ephesians 2:8-9
You are a new creation in Christ 2Cor 5:17
You are forgiven of your sins Roms5:8, 1John 1:9
God loves you John3:16

Week 2
This week our attention will be meeting God in the word. The
convert will be made to understand that the bible is there to
help us to know how to live and to learn about God. The person
will be that they are new born babe in Christ and in order to
grow they must read the word.
The convert will be made to understand the following:
The one should prayer before reading the bible asking
God for understanding and acceptance of his word
The word of God helps us to live holy lives and helps us
not to sin Ps 119:9,11
Set a Designated time to read the word
Be open when reading
Pay attention to the whole bible
Meditate on the word (Ps Chap1:2)
Be obedient to the word
The word of God helps us not to sin Ps 119:11 and we can
use the word of God to combat the lies of the enemy
(Jesus Temptation Matt 4:11,Ps119:11)
Activity
The Deaf will be encouraged to read the bible and share
next class. The person will be asked to memorize Ps 119:9,
11
A Deaf Devotional could be given to the Deaf or even a Bible
for the Deaf can be encouraged to buy.

Week 3
During this class the Deaf will be taught about Prayer
Prayer
The person will be made to understand the following:

that prayer is essential to his /her spiritual journey


Prayer is talking to God( Phil 4:6)
Prayer is Aligning ourselves with the purposes of the
Divine Creator
Prayer is Both Rest and Battle
The person will be taught the simple prayer pattern of A.C.T.S
(adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication)
Adoration: reflecting on God himself. Praise him for his love, his
power and majesty and his wonderful gift of Christ
Confession: admitting your sins to God. Be honest and God still
loves you
Thanksgiving: telling God how grateful you are for everything
he has given you and your thankfulness will help you to see his
purpose.
Supplication: make specific requests whether for yourself or
others.
Practical application: Report on your prayer time next class
Week 4
In this lesson the previous week will be reviewed and questions
answered.
In the week we will look at worship.
The convert will be told the following:
It is expressing our love for God Ps 34:1
It is done Corporately or privately
Activity
The person will be given a song sheet with a few songs to
assist during private worship.

Week 5
The new convert will be helped to understand why going to
Church is important. The Deaf may have a little difficulty with
this because lack of interpreters.
An interpreter will have to be provided for the Deaf and a
church effort will have to be made. The Deaf will be taught that
we come to church to hear the word of God and to worship God
collectively. The Deaf will be taught that the church is made up
of true believers and that it is there to help us grow spiritually.
It will be explained that God instructs us not to forsake the
assembling of one another together Hebrews 10:24-25.The
purpose of the church will be explained as in Ephesians 4:1112.
Activity
The person will be asked if they have any issues with the
church in terms of noise and if we can help them feel more
comfortable.
Week 6
This week we will talk about my witness to others. The convert
will be encouraged their testimony with others so that know
about the love of Jesus.
The convert will be told that Jesus wants us to tell others about
his love for them and the joy that he brings to our life. The
Deaf will be encouraged to reach their fellow Deaf. The Jesus
Film in sign language could be used as a witnessing tool to
assist the Deaf in witnessing.
The biblical example that will be given is the demon possessed
man Mark 5: 1-19.

Follow up
The new convert would be contacted every week as a follow up
and encouraged to join youth fellowship or young adult.
