Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa

Waheguru Ji Ke Fateh

To Our Dear Sikh Brothers and Sisters,

We write this letter in great joy; we write this letter with great spirits; we write this letter in great hope.

Over the last week, Sikhs mobilized in support of a North American Sikh Museum and the Mata Gujri Women’s Center and
Domestic Violence Shelter. Throughout the world we witnessed thousands of Sikhs standing united, from Brampton to Bathinda,
from Brisbane to Bakersfield, from Birmingham to Barnala, and thousands of cities in between.

Many organizations rallied behind the cause, including Naujawani (UK), Sikh Activist Network, One Panth, Sikh Research Institute,
Panjab Digital Library, Red FM (Vancouver), SALDEF, Sikhnet, Humble the Poet, Ensaaf, Surat, Jay Sean, the Punjabi press
throughout the world, Punjabi-language radio and television hosts, Facebook group administrators, various blogs and websites,
Gurdwaras throughout the world, and most importantly the nameless sevadars that distributed flyers, posted posters, and urged their
friends and family to vote in the competition. We are deeply grateful to these leaders for their contributions. The movement was
inspirational.

The VoteSikh campaign was successful in rallying support and beginning discussions about the reality of a North American Sikh
Museum and the Mata Gujri Women’s Center and Domestic Violence Shelter. From all over the globe we saw a shift in thinking
from these projects as mere pipe dreams to real possibilities. The initiative will not stop with the end of this campaign. In fact we
begin a new chapter.

Our history is not one where we’ve been handed things on a silver platter. Through seva and simran, through grit and toil, our Gurus
have taught us how to tackle life’s challenges with chardi kala (eternal optimism). The path of a Sikh is thinner than a hair and
sharper than a sword. Thus, the real work begins.

As stated at the outset of the campaign that even if the competition was not won, the Jakara Movement would remain committed
to the projects. We begin with the Mata Gujri Women’s Center and Domestic Violence Shelter. A grassroots effort will soon be
launched through town-hall meetings with the sangat, beginning at California Gurdwaras.

The path may not be easy. Guru Nanak reminds us: aUcau prbqu gwKVo nw pauVI iqqu qwsu] gurmuiK AMqir jwixAw guir mylI qrIAwsu ]1]
It is difficult to climb this high mountain; there are no stairs. The Guru-facing recognizes the Divine within, meet the Divine through the
Guru and cross over (the mountain). ||1|| The cause is urgent and worthy. With the Guru’s Kirpa, we can do this together!

Individuals from all over the world have already pledged thousands of dollars to make these initiatives a reality. Upcoming online
competitions will give us new opportunities to push for the project. However, the next step will be to continue this Guru-inspired
momentum and continue the fundraising, while putting the team in place for our first Mata Gujri Women’s Center and Domestic
Violence Shelter in Central California.

Now, the real work begins. If you would like to become involved, please send us an email at info@jakara.org or call us at
559-677-SIKH (7454).

We are excited and galvanized. Inspire and be inspired! Together, we are the movement.
