Hortatory Exposition -Does Exactly, The National Exam as a Determinant of

Graduation?

The National Examination is final to receive graduation certificate. The national


examination is not effective in evaluating students' learning abilities. National exam
only gives burden to the students. Governments should remove the national exam
as the sole determinant of graduation requirements, because of good reasons.
First, differences quality of teaching and quality of education in every school and
region is still being a problem that has not been resolved. Quality and facilities of
urban schools will different with schools in isolated areas. Question for the national
exam is made for common standards for all students in Indonesian. This is certainly
not fair to school that has lower quality.
Second, the national examination is not able to map the achievement of
competence or education quality control tested for only three to five days. That is
not consistent with the substance of legislation in the sphere of national education
standards.

Third, the national examination to ignore intelligence, potential and abilities of


students who are multi-level and ignore the advantages and special abilities. Very
unfair if the hard work of the school for 3 years only specified within 6 days.
Fourth, many fraud and corruption occurs during the nationalexam, so that the
results obtained are not purely of their own students' abilities. Many smart students
who do not pass the exam, while the less intelligent students who can pass, even
with a high enough value.

Fifth, the national examination is not assessed in accordance with the Basic
Education

program,

causing nine years

not appropriate to apply the national examination for high school too.

Besides lack of graduates would cause frustration among students. Many students
stress just because do not pass thenational exam. In fact, many cases of students
killing themselves because they do not pass the national exam.
Education is directed to developing attitudes and skills a child's personality,
talents, mental and physical abilities to achieve their optimum potential. Therefore
the government should evaluate and improve the quality of education in
Indonesian.
It is time for a variety of skills from the students valued more positively, and
the long process of education should not only relativized away with the national
examination that it was time to remove.

NATIONAL EXAM
IS IRRELEVANT IN SMA LEVEL
Every year, national exam is held for third year of SMA students in Indonesia. All of students
should pass that exam if they want to continue their school to the higher step, University. But, for
some students, national exam isnt easy. They thought national exam isnt ordinary exam, if they
didnt pass that exam they allowed to get a remedial from their teachers. If they didnt pass the
national exam, they should repeat a year in SMA.
Based on that fact and a lot of considerately, I said that national exam isnt relevant for SMA
level; in other word national exam should be banned for SMA level. I thought government
should stop that exam now. Bambang Sudibyo as a Minister of Education has to thinks about it. I
have some reasons or opinion why I disagree about national exam in Indonesia.
First, on few years a go, there were three subject on national exam. But, now the subject on
national exam is increasing, from three to six subjects. Those subjects are math, physic,
chemistry, English, Indonesian, and Biology (for science department). That was too hard for
some students and theyll be burdened. In other side, the subjects are irrelevant for some
students. How about SMK, SMM, and another vocational school student? Should they do the
same exam with SMA student with those subjects? I think its very irrelevant. Each student has a
different capability. So, if the vocational school students have to do the same exam with SMA
students its not fair.
Second, our struggle of study will be determined in just three days. Fourteen years of school
could be for nothing or useless if we didnt pass the national exam. We can imagine two or three

years in kindergarten, six years in elementary school, three years in junior high school, and three
years in high school is without result or useless. Thats very insensible for me. The government
isnt give chance to students to more exploring their potential.
Last, national exam can gives bad effect on psychology of the students. The students who have a
weak mentality may lose their mental before the day of the exam. That because they afraid if
they wont pass the exam or they cant do the exam well. Besides that, if the student didnt pass
the exam, it may destroy their mental and burry their hope. They may lose their future.
From all of my arguments above I can conclude that national exam should be banned in SMA
level. My reasons are; the subject that was given in national exam is irrelevant to all of students,
the government didnt appreciate the struggle of student as long as about fourteen years, national
exam can give bad damage to students mental. In my opinion, I suggest that the government
should revise the impact of national exam, so theres no one that gets disadvantages.
