I have my beginnings from a small town in southern India where I have studied till
grade 10. Right from grade 4, I have been at the top of my class with excellent
command over sciences and languages. With my Determination to excel in my
subjects, I have stood at 6th Position in my State of 100,000 students, who
appeared for Grade 10 public Exams, 2001.
Since Childhood, I was excited to learn physical sciences and their applications into
daily life. I exhibited a science experiment on Newtons third law of motion in grade
6, which attracted attention of my school. All such experiments intrigued me to
delve into the world of Physics. With my excellent academic records, I Cleared
IITJEE, ranked among top 1 % of 400,000 applicants in India, for engineering in
2003, granting me admission into prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)
Kharagpur.
Engineering studies have been an all-round development with Extra Curricular
Social Activities. At Academics, I was particularly interested in Structural courses
and common construction. With striking enthusiasm, I opted for many structural
design electives, gaining a masters degree in structural engineering, as an
integrated course with a bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, both granted in a
five years duration.
At IIT Kharagpur, I was well exposed to theory and experimentation in structural
analysis. I have done my bachelors degree Project in Finite Element Analysis of
Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) decks for culverts. Observing my interest in laboratory
experimentation, my Project Advisor has expanded my project into masters thesis
in High velocity impact testing of FRP Wrapped Reinforced Concrete Beams. FRP
beams showed a remarkable increase in local strength with layers of FRP Wrapped
to Beams.
With a sparked interest into structures, I started my profession with TATA Group,
India, into design and construction of twelve storied commercial RCC & Steel
Building. Here I have gained significant exposure into practical implementation of
structural design. I executed 40 storied buildings in Mumbai, India along with
structural design review for these buildings, giving me a complete outlook of Design
obstacles and implementation in the field. Further analyzing, the dynamic behavior
of these structures and response spectrum analysis has kindled my interest into
structural dynamics.
I performed design of structural steel connections; with the behavior I validated by
Finite element analysis (FEA) and its results. This created zeal within me to
understand further the nonlinearity and behavior of materials. Also, numerical
simulation has always fascinated me as I am able to model almost anything and
know the stress and capacity of both the material and the object to take the load.
Working as a structural Engineer, with Design Excellence, I took a great opportunity
to design varied projects ranging from concrete High-Rise RC buildings to critical

structural steel projects. I successfully designed challenging complexities in slender
structures and high temperature steel structures with nonlinear behavior. But,
Majority of the Commercial Design is done with first order linear analysis, although
structural behavior is nonlinear beyond proportionality limit. Moreover, actual
behavior cannot be captured from such linear and static analyses. Dynamic analysis
is also simplified for buildings, with assumptions in response spectrum analysis.
I strongly feel studying further is paramount to gather a deeper understanding into
structural dynamics and nonlinear systems. I yearn for further education into this
field of structures, with the aid of numerical simulation enabling me to simulate a
realistic behavior of structures. Having a fair introduction to FEA through my
bachelors and masters, Im earnest to seek deeper insight into numerical modelling
of structures and materials. My background in structural engineering serves a head
start, with an added advantage of structural analysis experience I have amassed in
these five years.
Germany has a great refinement into the research and study of structural
mechanics and collaborated with various international institutions. I came to know
of Stuttgart University from exhaustive research I did to seek my profound interests
in numerical simulation of structures, dynamics and nonlinear analyses. I aspire to
master these with the enriched curriculum COMMAS offers, in all these topics. I
would like to work in this field and research, furthering the development of this field.
COMMAS also helps sharing my knowledge and understanding on a global scale.
Throughout my studies and career, I set my goals to perform the best and achieved
them. I am very determined and believe that I can successfully accomplish what
Ive set my mind into.
