Ex tinguishing Media:
Use carbon diox ide (CO 2) or dry chem ical when fighting fires involving
this m aterial.
Unsuitable Media:
Do not reseal containers if contam inated with water, resin will react with
water to release carbon diox ide. As a result of the water
contam ination, pressure will build up in the sealed container causing it
to rupture.
Absorb spill with inert m aterial (e,g., dry sand or earth), then place in a
chem ical waste container. Provide ventilation. Collect spill with a nonspark ing tool. Place into a suitable container for disposal. Clean up
spills im m ediately observing precautions in the protective equipm ent
section. Neutralize residue with appropriate neutralizer. Do not attem pt
to neutralize large quantities of m aterial unless m easures to control
reactivity and heat generation have been tak en. After rem oval, flush
spill area with soap and water to rem ove trace residue.
Flam m able, elim inate ignition sources. Vapors can form an ignitable
m ix ture with air. . Vapors can flow along surfaces to distant ignition
sources and flash back . Ventilate area. Use proper personal protective
equipm ent as listed in section 8.
A blank et of protein foam m ay be placed over spill for tem porary
control of isocyanate vapor.
O ther Precautions:
Pum p large quantities into closed but not sealed m etal containers.
Isocyanates will react with water and generate carbon diox ide, this
could result in the rupture of any closed containers.
Neutralize using 10 parts neutralizer to 1 part isocyanate solution. Mix
and allow to stand for 48 hrs in containers, letting evolved carbon
diox ide to vent. Neutralizer consist of 90% water, 3-8% concentrated
am m onia (or sodium carbonate), 2% detergent.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry, well ventilated area away from sources of heat,
com bustible m aterials, direct sunlight, and incom patible substances.
Keep container tightly closed when not in use. Do not reseal container
If m oisture or water contam ination is suspected. Water contam inated
m aterial in a sealed container m ay rupture due to pressure buildup.
