PARAMETERS OF RESEARCH REPORT

1. TITLE OF THE REPORT:

The research report must clearly state the title of research project. The title page must
include:
the person or the agency, on behalf of whom the research is conducted
the person or the agency that conducted the research project
submission date of the research project.
For instance, in the case of commercial research undertaken to study the causes of decline
in sales of a particular brand in 2014, then the title will be:
Research Report on Decline in Sales of Brand XYZ in 2014
(Vaz, Sept 2014)
ANALYSIS:
Research paper I The title of the research paper contains the detail about the section of
the society, on which the research is conducted. But the title could have been more
appropriate if the relevant details of particular area or region have been mentioned on
which the research is conducted.
Research Paper II- The title of this research paper explains that the research is carried
out on the rural management education system in India. Moreover the title also consist of
the word retrospect which clearly indicates that the research is mainly done on the past
events occurred in rural management education.

2. PROBLEM FORMULATION:
A research problem guides and centers the research. A Research Problem provides a
roadmap. It should be clear and focused, as well as synthesize multiple sources to present
unique argument. Further decisions such as study design (study population, sampling
methods etc) are determined by the problem.
If one wants to solve a problem one must generally know what
the problem is. Kerlinger
Possible Question: Why are social networking sites harmful?
Revised Question: How are online users experiencing or addressing privacy issues on
such social networking sites as Facebook and Twitter?

(clearly expressing problem)

ANALYSIS:
Research Paper I As problem formulation plays very vital role in research, this paper
has rightly formulated the problem for the same. It has clearly mentioned the areas on
which the paper will work as per the research problem. The statement of problem has
helped the paper to keep the track in the right direction.
Research Paper II The research paper does not contain the statement of the problem.
The statement of the problem helps the research paper to choose the right direction for
research by guiding the researcher to find out the solutions for the problem. But this
research paper does not having the same.

3. SOUNDNESS OF METHODOLOGY:
30

Methodology can be defined as process used to collect information and data for the
purpose of making business decisions. The methodology may include publication
research, interviews, surveys and other research techniques, and could both present and
historical information.
The report should describe the methodology used in conducting the research:
If the data is collected only from secondary sources, reasons must be given for the
same.
If the data is collected only from primary sources, reasons must be given for the
same.
If the sample survey is conducted, then the details of sampling must be given with
respect to universe, elements, sample size, sampling method.

(Vaz, Sept 2014)
ANALYSIS:
Research Paper I The statement of problem of this research paper states that the study
has been done on the challenges of rural higher education institutes, whereas it can been
seen that no primary research is conducted on the same. Questionnaires, survey method,
etc could have helped to get the accurate response from the institute regarding the
enrollment and dropouts.
Research Paper II The information mentioned in this research paper does not contain
any statistical data or tables or graphs. This shows that only secondary sources have been
taken into account for carrying out the research. The primary sources like questionnaires
or survey method could have helped the researcher to provide more clear glance of the
paper.

4. DATA ANALYSIS:
Research data are an important and expensive output of the scholarly research process,
across all disciplines. They are an essential part of the evidence necessary to evaluate
research results, and to reconstruct the events and processes leading to them. Their value
increases as they are aggregated into collections and as they become more available for
re-use to address new and challenging research questions. Without proper organization,
this value is greatly diminished. Analysing the data in terms of evaluation, is to get an
accurate assessment in order to better understand the work and its effects on those
concerned with, or in order to better understand the overall situation.
Data analysis is a process used to transform, remodel and revise certain information
(data) with a view to reach to a certain conclusion for a given situation or problem. Data
analysis can be done by different methods as according to the needs and requirements of
different domains like science, business, social science dissertation etc. Data analysis, in
a research supports the researcher to reach to a conclusion. Therefore, simply stating that
data analysis is important for a research will be an understatement rather no research can
survive without data analysis.

ANALYSIS:
Research Paper I The data can be collected from various sources among which some
are authentic sources whereas others are not. In this paper, the data is collected from
government website which can be considered as an authentic source. Hence, the findings
based on this data are maybe reliable.

32

Research Paper II This research paper does not contain any statistical data neither
from primary sources nor from secondary sources. This paper is an abstract of the past
events based on theoretical information. Hence, analyse of the same cannot be conducted.

5. FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS:

This is an important element of research report. The findings constitute the large section
of the report. The researcher should provide findings in a logical sequence. The tables,
charts or pictures relating to the findings may be given near the matter.
The research report may contain a summary of the report and conclusions. The
conclusions are drawn from the findings. The conclusions must give references to the
pages, tables or paragraphs of the findings on the basis of which they are drawn.
(Vaz, Sept 2014)
ANALYSIS:
Research Paper I The findings are not clearly explained in the project. With the help
of data mentioned, the researcher could have elaborated the same. As the conclusions are
drawn on the basis of findings, it is firstly necessary to provide the findings clearly. But,
the conclusion of the paper has clearly defined the results of the study.
Research Paper II The researcher has not summed up the findings at one place. The
findings of each part can be seen after the end of that respective topic. Hence it will be bit
difficult to know to exact findings of the research paper until going through the whole
paper. At the end of the paper, the researcher has mentioned his views regarding the paper
in the form of conclusion.

6. PRESENTATION:
A good report serves as an investigating and decision making tool as it clearly presents
the analysis and statistical information of the factors relevant to a particular matter.
Research paper is also used for planning and critical evaluation as it contains useful
analytical information about key resources and other important aspects to an issue. Below
mentioned are some of the essentials of a perfect research report;
1. Factual Accuracy
2. Precision and Objectivity
3. Relevance
4. Clarity
5. Perfect Format
Research Paper I The sources of the information are mentioned in the paper, hence
making it more trustworthy and accurate. The paper is precise throughout and clearly
defines the objectivity. The data is also relevant as per the title and help of tables has been
taken in order to give clear picture of the research. But the paper is not upto the mark in
maintaining the perfect format as it has not mentioned the necessary contents of paper
like findings, table of contents and graphs.
Research Paper II The paper does not contain any sources from where the information
is collected, so the information might be accurate. But the researcher has maintained the
precision and objectivity throughout the paper and information is also relevant with clear
framing. As it is an abstract report from the point of researcher, it does not follow any
specific pattern of research paper.

34

SUGGESTIONS
Report writing is one of the most diverse and complex of all writing tasks. Writing a
report, whether for academic use or business purpose, is a powerful tool of providing
factual information, recorded data, investigations, researches, analysis etc. to a person or
organization who wants to use that information. A report is defined as an orderly and
systematic presentation of factual information that supports in problem-solving and
decision making process. Hence, the research paper must be perfect in all possible
manners.
The research paper should firstly follow a particular pattern for writing. It must
contain all the necessary information which are required for a good research paper
but with relevant information.
The statistical data, tables and graphs enhances the research paper and gives more
clarity to it, so the same should be included in the research paper.
A thorough research with good orderly presentation and simple language with no
grammatical or spelling errors will form a very good Research Paper.

35

CONCLUSIONS
The project is based on the Analyses of research report in which 2 research papers have
been selected and analyses of the same is been done. Both the research papers are from
education sector especially on rural education. The following conclusions are drawn from
the analyses of the same;
There are certain essentials which have to be followed to make the good research
report which mainly includes a good format.
The research paper I have followed a format to certain extent and is precise as
well. Even it contains tabular information but it lacks in terms of providing proper
findings and bibliography.
The research paper II is in abstract form from the point of researcher. Its not
following any particular writing pattern but providing precision throughout the
paper.
