INSET Day
CATENIAN PUBLIC SPEAKING
Sunday 12th October saw another nail-biting
competition as Bristol schools competed for the
annual Catenian Public Speaking competition. Both
our candidates presented compelling arguments for
their chosen subjects. Joey Gompels gripped the
audience as he grappled convincingly with the
challenging subject; "Christian behaviour matters
more than Christian belief", and Martha Eustace
brought the trophy home-presented by last year's
winner our Ben Whitfield, with her captivating
discourse on "Public speaking contests are a waste of
time." An amazing afternoon.

PUPIL BAKE OFF

On Monday 13th October
Pupils demonstrated their vast
range of baking skills in the
second St Bedes Bake off. With
over 100 entries it was a very
difficult task to choose the
winners. After a lengthy
deliberation the following names
were announced:
Joe Gilbert (Year 11) Pastry
Arianna Turvey (Year 7) Tray Bakes
Lauren OHagan (Year 10) Biscuits
Laura Turpin (Year 8) Small Cakes
Colm McManamon (Year 7) Large Cakes
Ella Staddon (Year 7) Bread
Colm McManamon was crowned overall star baker
having produced an excellent Coffee and Walnut
cake. Congratulations to all those who took part and
keep on baking!

YEAR 11 MOCK INTERVIEWS

On Wednesday 15th October representatives from
local employers, further education colleges, Bristol
University and training organisations, spent the
morning at the college conducting mock interviews
with our Year 11 pupils. The event gave pupils the
opportunity to practise their interview skills and use
the feedback given to them to ensure they are
successful in the future. Comments from the pupils
regarding the experience were extremely positive and
the interviewers all remarked how well the
candidates had conducted themselves.

MY JOURNEY THROUGH MY OWN EYES

My name is Jade, thats who I am,
Im a creative and fun type of girl.
Im still 12 and learning to survive,
In this big and crazy world.
I am patient, kind and loyal,
I always have a friendly smile.
At times when I feel insecure,
I stay focussed and maintain my pride.
Perfection is not what Im striving for
Doing my very best gives me joy,
But since Im still a child,
Of course I still play with my toys.
BUT.
With ambition and determination, I
Know the skys the limit.
With hope in my heart that I can succeed,
I would have to be in it, to win it.

THE BIG DRAW

On the 16th and 17th October, we celebrated The Big
Draw the National Campaign for Drawing. This
years theme was Its Our World, and our pupils
responded to this by participating in a Postcard
competition winners to be announced soon!
Some Year 9 and Year 11 pupils also enjoyed a
workshop led by Bristol based artist Andy Council who
is well known for his street art celebrating Bristol.
Pupils relished the Q&A session and the chance to
produce work with him. Across the rest of the college,
many pupils took part in drawing activities in their
tutor groups, and other subjects.
Well done to all those who helped to celebrate The
Big Draw.

Soon Ill be 13 so Im getting older and wiser,

I know what I want to be
A designer, an artist, a musician,
Who knows what the future holds for me!
