HISTORY OF ICE HOCKEY

Its history is traced to Canada as early as the 1810s. The modern sport emerged in the
late 1800s in Montreal, with the National Hockey League forming in 1917. Hockey is a
sport in which early development took place as much in college as it did in professional
leagues.

The Ball-and-Stick on Ice:

Ball-and-stick games are almost as old as civilization itself. Its earliest origins may be
from Persia, Egypt or China, while archaeological evidence shows an early ball-andstick game played in Greece in the 400s BCE. As civilization spread, so did the games.
And eventually, as the civilized world went north, ball-and-stick moved onto the ice.
Hockey in Canadas Universities
Hockey took the country by storm, as hockey teams sprouted up across eastern Canada,
both at universities and at amateur athletic clubs. McGill University established the first
university hockey team in 1877, and the 1880s saw an explosion of teams. The first
hockey leagues were formed in the mid-1880s, while the Amateur Hockey Association
of Canada (AHAC), which began in 1885, was the first national hockey organization.
Evolution
As the country spread west, so did the sport. The Manitoba Hockey Association was
formed in 1892, and first competed for the Stanley Cup four years later. The game had
also spread all the way to the Pacific in Canada and south to the United States by 1900,
in places like Vancouver, the Yukon Territory, New England and Michigan. Early
hockey, however, was also plagued by excessive violence.

Task description:
We divide the entire class in 4 groups.Every group will have breastsilks of
different colours. We put 4 goals, in the middle of the 4 sides of the sports
center. Every group has to score in the other 3 goals as much hockey balls
as possible, playing as a team. The game will be played with 2 hockey

Norms/rules:
- The teams will be of 5 maximum. If the team has more than 6
people, the remaining person will count the goals of the team, and
when his team scores 3 goals, he will change his role for another

- To score a goal, the ball must be inside the area created by us, so
long distance shots are forbidden.
- It is forbidden to raise the sticks more than a meter, so we avoid

attention to more objectives.
