CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the problem


Chocolate is one of the food is much preferred by the general public. Food is
not only attractive to teenagers but covers all ages from toddlers to adults. Usually
chocolate processed into drinks, cakes, decorations, candy, and others. Chocolate is
much preferred because it is distinctive and can be found anywhere. In addition to the
distinctive taste, that interest things is the price that varies from medium to medium
consumers up .
Viewed from the side benefits of chocolate is not just for food material society
because far only known chocolate as food delights and have a negative side, for
example, cause obesity and tooth decay. But behind it all, chocolate has health
benefits that have not been widely known by the public. Therefore we would like to
introduce The Health Benefits of Chocolatte in more detail.

2. Why chocolate has health benefits ?
1.3 Purpose
1. Knowing the health benefits of chocolate.
2. Knowing the material contained in chocolate are useful for health.

DISCUSSION
2.1 Discussion
2.1.1 The chemical content of chocolatte
a. Theobromine,
Theobromine is a chemical or xanteosa of the alkaloid. There
ditumbuhan theobromine cocoa. Chemically, theobromine is very similar to
caffeine. Theobromine is a water insoluble powder, Kristalina, and bitter. The
color can be called putihataupun colorless. Theobromine has similar effects to
caffeine though smaller, making homologous.
b. Fenetilamina,
Compounds in chocolate physiological effect on the body. Given
effect as the effect on Theobromine and anandamida.
c. Anandamida,
A chemical compound that gives physiological effects on the
body. These compounds included in the lipid compounds.
d. Anti-oxidants,
Antioxidants are substances that are capable of slowing or preventing the
oxidation process. This substance is actually able to slow or prevent the
oxidation of a substance that easily oxidized even in low concentrations.
Antioxidants also fits defined as compounds that protect cells from the effects
of reactive oxygen free dangerous radical when it comes to disease, free
radicals can be derived from the metabolism of the body and other external
factors. Is free radical species are unstable because they have unpaired
electrons and electron pairs in the search for biological macromolecules.
2.1.2 Health benefits of chocolate
a. Counteract free radicals
Chocolate contains flavanols, a type of flavonoids that act as anti-oxidants and
help prevent free radicals in the body.

b. Lower blood pressure


Dark chocolate from some of the research results can lower blood pressure in
people who have high blood pressure.
c. Lowering LDL cholesterol
Eating dark chocolate on a regular basis has been shown to lower LDL
cholesterol by 10 percent.
d. Anti depression naturally
Chocolate contains serotonin, a natural anti-depressant. Chocolate also
stimulates endorphin production, which creates a feeling of happiness and
pleasure. In fact, one of the studies found that the chocolate melts in the
mouth will produce pleasurable feelings which is much longer than the kissing
passionately. This may explain why many people will eat chocolate when they
are depressed.
e. Cancer Fighter
Some studies have found chocolate to be one of the best cancer-fighting foods
along with foods such as red wine, blueberries, garlic, and tea. Two ways how
chocolate works to fight cancer, the first is by inhibiting cell division and the
second is to reduce inflammation.
f. Extend the life and reduce disease
The results of the Dutch study followed 200 men over 20 years, found that
those who consume large amounts of chocolate, both milk chocolate and dark
chocolate, live longer and have lower levels of overall disease than men who
ate little or no chocolate.
g. Cleansing artery
Research has shown that the antioxidants contained in the cocoa able worked
as broom that cleans plaque in artery walls.
h. Health brains
Many studies have shown that dark chocolate is good for brain health.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that chocolate can protect
brain nerve cells from further damage in the event of a stroke. Dark chocolate

has also been known to be able to increase the memory of the human brain.
Researchers at the Salk Institute of California found that a chemical in
chocolate called epicatechin can improve the memory of mice.
i. Source valuable energy
A piece of chocolate chip reportedly can provide enough energy to walk as far
as 46 meters.
j. Stimultan mild sexual
Although the content of theobromine and other chemicals in chocolate proved
to be stimultan hanay light, many people who love chocolate as an aphrodisiac
favorite sex drive.
Of course this is due to the sensation and the sensual delights of chocolate no
question.
k. Giving a sense of satiety
Researchers from Denmark has found that people who ate dark chocolate
before meals can earn 15% less calories and are not tempted to eat fatty foods
than those who did not eat chocolate.
l. Improving mood
Chocolate contains phenethylamine, which triggers the release of endorphins.
This reaction is similar to the experience of falling in love. Doctors in the UK
shows that couples who eat chocolate pleasures twice as great at kissing than
those who did not eat chocolate. The reason is because chocolate contains
sugar and caffeine that produces durable calories.
m. Helps to relax
There are biological reasons to get used to eating chocolate when strss.
Research shows that chocolate contains anandamide compounds that activate
the same brain receptors as marijuana. Not surprisingly, biting a bar of
chocolate can increase happiness.

FINALITY
3.1 Conclusion
Based on the literature that has been described, it can be drawn a conclusion
that:
1. Chocolate contains many benefits in daily life - the day when consumed
2. Chocolate are beneficial to health because chocolate contains serotonoin,
flavonoids, Theobromine, Fenetilamina Anandamida, and anti-oxidants
that are beneficial to health.
3. One of the benefits of chocolate is to provide peace of mind for people
who eat them, prevent high blood pressure, prevent cancer and etc.
3.2 Suggestion
We hope the reader can see and understand the health benefits of chocolate.
