TEACHING-LEARNING ACTIVITIES

a. INITIAL ACTIVITIES
1. Greeting
Duration: 5 minutes
a) The teacher enters the class and greets the students, and the student response it.
b) The teacher checks the students present list.
2. Introduction the topic
Duration: 10 minutes
a. Give the explaination about direction.
b. Give the example about how to ask and give direction.
c. Teacher explains what students will be doing.
3.

Building knowledge of field.


Duration: 15 minutes
Teacher gives the example of dialogue about direction to the students.
Teacher demonstrate the dialogue.
Students practice the dialogue with the corect pronounciation.
Teacher corect the mistakes immediately.

Student practice the dialogue in front of the class.


Teacher explain the direction using map.
b. MAIN ACTIVITIES
1. Presenting the material.
Duration: 20 minutes
Teacher play a role-play about two people who ask and give information about
direction and ask the students to understand it.
Teacher help students to learn how to say the dialogues. (using repetition drill
and background build-up drill)
Example:
Teacher : Now, I will say it and repeat after me. Excuse me, do you know
where the bus station is?
Students : Excuse me, do you know where the bus station is?
Teacher : The bus station is, repeat after me.
Students : The bus station is.
Teacher : Where the bus station is.
Students : Where the bus station is.
Teacher : Do you know where the bus station is?
Students : Do you know where the bus station is?
Teacher : Excuse me. Do you know where the bus station is?
Students : Excuse me. Do you know where the bus station is?
The teacher asks the students, per groups or individually, to say the dialogue
accurately.
Teacher asks two students to practice it in front of the class.
Teacher gives the students some grammar pactices. (using subtitution drill)
Teacher

: Now, I will give you some grammar practice, repeat after


me. Do you know where the bus station is?

Students

: Do you know where the bus station is?

Teacher

: Good, now, I will give you some words and try to subtitute
it in proper place in the dialogue. For example, post office.
Repeat after me.

Students

: Post office.

Teacher

: Do you know where the post office is?

: Hospital.

Students

: Do you know where the hospital is?

2. Giving the task


Duration: 25 minutes
I. TASK I
Teacher ask the student to repeat the dialogue.
Teacher

: Okay students, today, we will learn about asking and giving information
about direction. Listen carefully, try to understand and repeat after me.

(The teacher read all sentence and asking for students to repeat)
Fred

: Excuse me. Do you know where the bus station is?

Ann

: Yes, of course I do.

Fred

: Then, can you tell me the shortest way to get there?

Ann

: Sure, you should go straight up this street and then turn left. The bus station
is in front of the post office.

Fred

: Thank you.

Ann

: Youre welcome.

Memorize the dialogue and say it accurately.


Work in pairs. Practice the dialogue in front of the class.
