Online Edmodo Staff Development

Syllabus
Course Title: Edmodo: What is it? How to use it?
Course Description: This is an online staff development course in which teachers,
media specialists, and support staff can learn about Edmodo and how to incorporate
it into their schools.
Course Objectives:
1. Participants will create an Edmodo account.
a. Participants will use their school email account to create the Edmodo
account.
2. Participants will learn to use the various functions in Edmodo.
a. Participants will create an avatar.
b. Participants will complete their profile.
c. Participants will join my staff development group.
d. Participants will create a group
e. Participants will invite course instructor to join their group.
3. Participants will learn how to integrate Edmodo into the curriculum.
a. Participants will identify ways they can implement Edmodo into their
classrooms and/or at their school.

school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective
use of digital tools and resources.
a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative
applications of technology to improve student learning

Course Activities:
Lesson 1: Participants will view the Edmodo slideshow created for this staff
development. Afterwards, they will create an Edmodo account using their school
email address. Participants will create an avatar or upload a photo to use as their
profile picture. Then participants will complete their profile.
Lesson 2: Participants will join the Edmodo staff development group. They should
have emailed the course instructor to obtain the code. After joining the Edmodo
staff development group, participants will respond to the instructors welcome post
by replying to the following question: What web 2.0 tools and/or software do you
use with your students? Next participants will create a group and invite the course
instructor to join the group. Participants will practice using the following Edmodo
features: Note (posting messages), Alert, Assignment, Quiz, Poll, Snapshot, Store,
Manage Apps, Apps Launcher, and Planner.
Lesson 3: Participants will brainstorm ways they can integrate Edmodo into their
lessons, media center activities, or with their faculty and staff. They will email their
ideas to the course instructor or post in the Edmodo Staff Development Group as
evidence of learning.
Assessment (Performance Based): Participants joining the Edmodo Staff
Development group, inviting the instructor to join their group, and emailing or

posting their ideas for the integration of Edmodo in their classes and/or school will
use these tasks as their assessment.
Evaluation: Participants will use the Evaluation link on the Edmodo Staff
Development website to evaluate this course. The link leads to 10 questions on
Survey Monkey that will help the instructor improve this course.

Instructor and Student Interaction Expectations:


The instructor is expected to respond to participants posts and emails within 24-72
hours.
The participant is expected to follow the syllabus guidelines and complete all
activities. All activities should be completed by the end of the module.
The participant is expected to reply to the instructors welcome post.
The participant is expected to create a post or send an email when asking the
instructor and/or students a question about the course (lessons, activities, or
assessments).
The participant will email the course instructor when he has finished the course.
If the participant wishes to use this course as credit hours, he will attach the ILL
(Individual/Independent Learning Log) form to an email and send it to the course
instructor.
The instructor will print the emailed form, sign the printed copy, scan the signed
copy, and return it to the participant in an email. The instructor will complete this
task within two weeks.

Learner Guidance and Relevant Resources:


Participants must be logged in to Edmodo on a computer, laptop, or tablet.
Participants will submit their activities online through posting or emailing.

Policies Concerning Academic Honesty: Participants are expected to abide by
the academic institutions honor code. Disciplinary action will follow the institutions
policy. They are also expected to follow the U.S. copyright laws and fair use
guidelines.
