icensed Practical Nurses who wish to


pursue the Associate Degree in nursing
may apply for admission to the Louisiana
Tech University Division of Nursing Extension
Program. An applicant who has been arrested,
charged with, convicted of, pled guilty or no
contest to, or been sentenced for any criminal
offense in any state must petition the LSBN for
permission to begin nursing courses.

ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM


Applicants who meet the admission criteria and
who are accepted by the Admissions Committee
complete two TRANSITION COURSES (Nursing
100 & 113) to earn a total of 12 hours of nursing
credit by examination.
NOTE: Credit or
enrollment in Nursing 100 Sect. 90 is a prerequisite for Nursing 113.
These self-paced transition courses include
teacher-made exams, with clinical competency
evaluations required for Nursing 113. Students
pay regular Extension Course fees for this
required course as well as all other nursing
courses.
Prospective students are urged to seek
academic counseling before starting prerequisite
course work.

This information must be forwarded to the


Division of Nursing, Louisiana Tech University
no later than December 1st for enrollment in the
Spring Quarter.
Nursing 113 is offered once a year. Students
who complete the course satisfactorily are
eligible to enroll in regular nursing courses
beginning in the Fall Quarter.
Nursing courses are taught at Glenwood
Regional Medical Center by Louisiana Tech
University nursing faculty. These classes are
usually conducted at times which enable
students to continue in their work role.
The Louisiana State Board of Nursing reserves the
right to deny a graduate admission to sit for the R.N.
Licensing Exam if he/she has ever been arrested,
charged with, convicted of, pled guilty or no contest
to, or been sentenced for any criminal offense.

Students are also encouraged to complete the


remaining 18 hours General Academic Courses
prior to Fall enrollment into Nursing courses.
Students may transfer credit earned for these
courses at other approved universities.
A minimum grade of C is required for each
accepted transfer course.
The Division of
Nursing Office evaluates transcripts to
determine credit which may be transferred.

accredited by the National League for Nursing
Accrediting Commission and approved by the
Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Applicants
are selected by the Admissions Committee on a
competitive
basis.
