response to pressure from the Lib
Dems.
Originally both the Conservatives
and Labour voted for a new County
Hall without knowing the costs.
The Lib Dems have argued that this
was not a good use of public money
when there were cheaper
alternatives.
With escalating costs, Conservative
and Labour councillors voted to for
a smaller county hall but still with a
pricey estimated cost of £18 million.
