Dear Parents
I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for the participation in the election of our

PARENTS DAY

AN ACIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!

Saturday 9 MAY: 08.00 to 13.00

Yes, an accident waiting to happen if drivers continue to ignore

basic traffic rules when collecting or dropping the learners off
at school. Please parents and girls who use taxis need to speak
to the drivers to help to prevent the congestions in Kock Street
at the school hall.
Parents may not drive into the school grounds to drop off or
fetch learners. Taxis and large cars are requested NOT to park
near the gates as it limits the visibility for educators leaving the
premises. We all are responsible to ensure the safety of our
learners.

We invite all parents to join us on Parents Day to discuss your

daughters first term academic results. This is your
opportunity to meet with the subject teachers as well as the
ideal opportunity to raise any possible areas of concern. All
Subject teachers will be in the Hall.
We have two days per year for you to meet with the
teachers, so please try not to miss this opportunity.
Refreshments will be on sale.

Procedures for making appointments:

1.
2.

Your daughter will make 5 minute appointments

on your behalf with her subject teachers.
On arrival on Saturday your daughter will hand you
the appointment list indicating the times. To ensure
that all appointments are met, please arrive on
time and do not exceed the 5 minute time
allocation.

Appointments may also be made with Miss Scholtz for advice

on subject choices and with Mrs van Sittert, the Counsellor
for any other areas of concern.

Parent Meetings in the Pavilion on the same day:

9 May
There will also be meetings for the different grades in the
Pavilion with Mrs Meyer. The information shared at these
meetings is specific for a grade and each meeting is different.

FINANCE
Pavilion Bricks
The Pavilion was built in the year 2000 and every time we
have functions at school, the Pavilion is used and time &
time again has proven to be a wonderful facility that is
appreciated by all. The Pavilion has a wall dedicated to
girls and parents that attended Potch Girls High. To have
your name recorded on the wall with a brass plaque costs
only R700-00. By contributing, your donation helps with
the upkeep of the pavilion. To buy a brick, please
complete the attached reply slip. All donations can be
made directly to the finance office for the attention of
Mrs Jacobsz.
Pocket Money
It is advisable to let your daughter have an ATM card so
that she will be able to draw money on Wednesdays (for
bus bookings only) and during official Town Leave on
Saturdays. The ATMs closest to the hostels are FNB (First
National Bank) and ABSA machines. This is a safer option
than having cash on hand.
Day Girl Fund
Every day girl is expected to contribute R120 per year to
the Day Girl Fund. This will be used for the Christmas party
and for another fun event with the aim of promoting unity
amongst the Day girls.
School Magazine
The 2014 Magazine The Pearl, with lovely articles and
photos capturing the school year of 2014, is still available
from the finance office. The cost of the magazine is
R150.00.
Bus tickets
Please note that bus tickets are no longer sold
school. No money may be deposited into the
account for bus tickets and any such money will
refunded. Contacts for purchasing bus tickets

HOSTELS
Requests for weekends out
1. On weekends when matches are played or other school
activities take place, girls may only go home after the
scheduled activity.
2. On closed weekends there will only be a return bus on
the Sunday evening but no bus on the Friday. The ticket
for the return journey must be bought in the normal way
during the week prior to that weekend.
5. If it is not the parents physically signing out, the person
transporting your daughter must please have proof of
identification.
Weekends Home
A boarding school is a home away from home but it is not
meant to be HOME. Girls MUST go home at least every 3rd
weekend to bond with their own families. It is not ideal to
keep your daughter in the hostel every weekend, neither is it
ideal to allow her to keep visiting friends. The girls are with
their friends all week and need a break. She needs to see her
family.
Dietary needs
It has become impossible to accommodate all the dietary
requirements of the girls. The hostels cater for four hundred
people every day and we cannot continue to cook for all the
girls with varied requests. Every meal served in the dining
room must be accepted. It is difficult to cater for all the
different vegetarian types. Girls will have to eat from the
same menu as everyone else and will have to adjust their
personal preferences. Girls will need to provide protein
supplements for themselves if they choose not to eat our
nutritionally balanced menu.

The following documents have been sent home with your daughter. Use this as a checklist to ensure that you have received
all the documents. It will not be necessary to return this slip as it serves only as a checklist for you.
