Fall 2009

Second Annual Neighborhood Workday on June 27th a Success!

(Thanks to all! See write-up on Page 2)
Announcing Third Semi-Annual Neighborhood Workday
on Saturday, October 24
The Village will be hosting another community workday on Saturday, October 24, 2009, to complete
cleaning of our white vinyl fences and painting of lamp posts. Come join us for some fun work,
socializing and providing a service to your neighborhood! VHG will again host a picnic lunch
with hotdogs, trimmings and drinks at noon. We had a great time in June, so join us and please
bring a dish to share! Children and adults are invited with prizes given to each child who
participates. Meet in Tom and Merritt Jones’ driveway at 5037 Dawn Piper Drive at 9:00am on
Saturday, Oct. 24. Please RSVP to Tom at jonestb5037@gmail.com so that we can have
adequate food, drinks, painting and cleaning supplies, etc.

June 27 Workday Notes :
Thanks to all of you who turned out on a hot June Day to participate in our second official VHG
Workday! We painted 90 mailbox posts and cleaned vinyl fence sections on Village Lawn and Garden
Warbler! Just walking through the neighborhood, you can really see the improvement as a result of the
work that was done. Afterwards we had a scrumptious lunch with Tom Jones cooking hot dogs for all.
Others contributed fresh fruit, water melon, potato salad, homemade cookies, brownies, and many other
goodies. Thanks to the following list of participants for their hard work and dedication to making our
neighborhood a better place to live and keeping up our property values: Tom Jones, Reecie Dolan,
Debbie Rutledge, Robert Evans, Shawn Parker, Kevin & Erin Cole, Kathleen McEntee, Mary
Marcantonio, Mohamed El Sheikh, Rachel Vaughters, George Malarchik, DiMeo family, Becky
and Sarah Fragnito, and Steven Pokou, the young man who won the grand prize for the day – a
super soaker water gun!

Landscaping Update!
The plantings by Whitaker Landscaping have been removed after the drought and heat did them in!
We are unable to pipe or haul water in at a reasonable price to keep them alive in the heat of the
summer, so Whitaker will try again to replant more drought-proof plants this Fall. Fall landscaping
maintenance should begin in September/October with core aeration, overseeding, and fertilzation.
Please water your lawns on designated dates at least once per week after over-seeding is complete.
The full Landscaping schedule has been mailed but can also be found on www.hghoa.com under HOA
Board of Directors/Village.
Fences – Vinyl and Wood
Neighborhood Improvements: The privacy fence between The Village and the Circle K Gas Station has
been extended in order to keep teenagers and children from traveling through private yards to access this
business and neighborhoods behind us. No trespassing signs will be installed close to the Station area.
Notice: One of our key Architectural Standards states that all wooden fences require two coats of white
paint. Remember you must clean and paint both sides of the fence you own! Letters have been sent to
several owners and the fine process will be levied for those who fail to comply. You may clean and paint
your own fences or hire someone to do it, but it is your responsibility!
Reminder: All requests for architectural changes must be approved first by The Village Architectural
Committee and then by the Harrington Grove HOA before any changes are made. Forms for submitting
changes may be found on www.hghoa.com on Pages 17 and 18 of the VHG Architectural Standards, or
call Charleston Management to have hard copies mailed to you.
You are being a good Neighbor if you:
• Remember to pick up after you pets both in your own yard and the common areas!
• Do not allow your pet to use other neighbors’ yards or flower beds to relieve themselves.
• Do not park directly across from another car on our narrow streets! Do not park on the grass!
• Know that no long-term parking is allowed on streets. Cars will be tagged after 7 days.
•. Have guests park on wider side streets. No extended stays!
VHG Homeowners Association References:
• Each homeowner is a member of both the Harrington Grove and The Village at Harrington Grove
Homeowners Associations.
• See documents for both Homeowners Associations at www.hghoa.com.
• All homeowners and tenants are subject to the By-Laws, Declarations and Covenants, and any
Rules and Regulations or Architectural Standards for both of these entities in addition to all
