WHEN CARRYING OUT THE GIVEN OPERATIONS OBSERVE THE NORMS STATES IN CHAPTER 2 OF
THE TECHNICAL HANDBOOK
SAFETY RULES
Carefully observe the front-panel warning labels prior to working on optical
connections while the equipment is in-service.
N.B.
1.1.
1.1.1.
A multilingual (French, German, Italian, Spanish) safety label is included in the Optical Units
prepacking. The user can substitute the default English label with one of the available.
The following procedures have been issued and must be observed when unpacking the equipment.
The reciprocal operation must be done for repacking. In such case it is recommended to use the original
packing material.
The following sturdy outer packing material is utilized in order to protect the equipment against mechanical
and climatic stresses to which they are subjected:
wooden crates
for transport by ship, air, on road for periods longer than 60 days
ply-wood crates
cardboard boxes

Based on the type of rack side wall implemented, caged nuts might be used to fasten the subracks
to the rack.
If the rack has no outer fiber cable ducts (as rack S9 or Optinex) add a cable duct on the inner side
of the side-walls in the set position using the union optical fiber duct

1.2.2.14. Ext. 2 MHz & Sync. and 2 Mbits Auxiliary channels connections
(Refer to Figure 38 on page 51).
These connections are directly made on the connectors J1 - J4 mounted on the Service and General I/F
unit (SERGI) inserted into slot 5.
Two alternative types of connections are possible:
[1]
Connections on 75 Ohm
Wire the signals utilizing the 1.0/2.3 75 ohm male coax. connector for 3 mm. cable (1AB 061220003).
[2]
Wire the signals utilizing the 75/120 Ohm Balum connector (1AB 158340001) for twisted pairs cable
(049.721.410 P).
For the cable connection to the Balum connector read the following instruction:
SIEMENS CONNECTOR :
(Refer to Figure 36 on page 49)
Strip the cable. If no screen available, then dimension 6 is not applicable and dimension 13
becomes 11
Unscrew ferrule (5) and remove insulator (3) and washer (4)
Push a washer (4) over the screen and bend the screen back
Push the second washer over the cable up to stop
Cut projecting screen to a length of about 2 mm max.
Insert the wires into the holes A (correspondent with coax center conductor) and B of insulator (3)
and push insulator up against washer
Spread open the wires and bend them over 180 laying into the cable duct.
-
Push the prepared cable onto the body (1); by doing this, line up the flat on the insulator with the
nose on the body
Push on ferrule (5), screw on and lightly tighten using wrench 8 mm.
