Bonnie York Jan 31 - Feb 6
“I miss and love you.” That was a text I received at 11:29am on Monday. It was from my
wonderful daughter, Shawna, who is finishing up her senior year in high school while
living with her grandparents in Visalia. We have been receiving these types of messages
quite frequently since we have been separated from her. I looked at it and yet did not
respond to it until much later in the day. I felt bad when I finally responded, yet her reply
was with kindness and love. I hope you don’t think I am a bad father; other things just
got in the way that day. You can say it; I am thinking it right now, “What a loser!”
I am reminded of our Father in Heaven and how He must feel at times as He sends us
messages of love and yet we barely acknowledge His grace. Though, once we finally
get around to it, He, like Shawna, doesn’t rebuke or say “well it’s about time.” He simply
says,” I love you too!” That’s the way He is. He often waits in the shadows of our life,
while we allow other things to crowd out His message and His Presence. He so wants to
be with us. He wants to walk with us and to share His love with us. He simply wants to be
with us!
I am thinking of you and your life today. With my daughter, I allowed other issues to
crowd out what was more important. I should have responded to this message of love
from her sooner. Maybe you have allowed other things to get in the way of the most
important relationship you have. You may have things to do, projects to complete, a
family to raise and career to build. These are important, just not as important as putting
Jesus Christ first in our lives. The good news is that He waits with patience. When we do
step into grace and say “I am sorry, God, you are most important in my life,” He simply
says “Welcome home! I am so glad you are here.”
My friends, don’t neglect what’s most important. Take time today to respond to this God
of grace. His name is Jesus! He is mighty to save! He is waiting today!

Celebrate Recovery
Thank you to all those from Celebrate Recovery who have given their
testimonies during our recent Sunday Morning services. So far, in the month
of January, Lyle, Dwight, Michelle and Alana have inspired us with their
courageous accounts of God’s touch in their lives.
DFC Pantry
Thanks to all who have generously donated non-perishable food items,
hygiene items and paper products to the DFC Pantry. We could not
continue in this much needed ministry without your help. Please look in the
“How You Can Help” section for a list of items needed now in the Pantry.
Tuesday of this week, the Board had our first meeting of 2010. Pastor is becoming
better acquainted with our congregation and community, and he continues to
unfold ideas on how he would like to approach various ministries. A few changes
have already been implemented and several more will be rolled out in the weeks
and months ahead. Some of us will take the changes in stride, while others may
feel an uneasiness as "the familiar" becomes a little less so in certain areas. That is
perfectly natural. All we can ask of you is to be patient and trust that each
adjustment is weighed against the measure of how it will increase our outreach
to the lost and more effectively disciple the saved.
I wrote down a challenge Pastor gave on Sunday and placed it in my Bible to
see each morning. It simply reads, "Every day do something sacrificial for others
this week." It seems simple enough. Yet it seems this week has been packed with
more pressures and "stuff" than the typical week. I look back on the days already
passed and I'm hard-pressed to identify anything truly sacrificial I've done for
anyone so far. So much for goal setting!
Maybe the tendency to stay in that deep rut in which our lives run is exactly the
reason there is such a strong emphasis in the Word for us to be different. I like the
way Romans 12:1-2 from Sunday's sermon is rendered in The Message:
In Ephesians 4:22-24 Paul reiterates this idea. He says I must "put on" the new me.
In other words, it requires a deliberate action on my part. I know it seems difficult
at times. But Galatians 6:9 urges us on, telling us not to become weary doing
good. For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Bake Out
This Sunday, January 31st is Bake Out Sunday. Please drop off your baked
goods to be distributed to local businesses. We will have a table set up in the
Breezeway so you can drop off your goodies.
Celebrate Recovery
Celebrate Recovery starts new 12-Step study groups only once or twice a
year. We will launch a new men’s group and a new women’s group on
February 3rd. These groups will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:00
pm (Friday night groups are open to new participants year-round). The 12-
Step study involves working through four participant’s guides over the
course of the next twelve months. It’s a safe place for anyone to work on
recovery from a hurt, a hang-up, or a habit.
Here are four ways to get more info about how to become involved:
1. Contact Randy Smith at 303/947-2480 or
randys@denverfirstchurch.com
2. Contact DeeAnn Craver at 720/313-8774 or dacraver@aol.com
3. Go to the Celebrate Recovery information booth (Door #8, hallway
south of the Sanctuary)
4. Come to Celebrate Recovery on Friday nights from 6-9pm; a CR
member will gladly provide you the needed information.
