(Day 3)
On the third day, we went to Strawberry farm in La Trinidad Benguet, we bought some
souvenirs there like t-shirts, key chains and food. At 12:00pm, we attended seminar about ICs or
Integrated Circuits. It is a set of electronic circuits on one small plate ("chip") of semiconductor
material, normally silicon.
This can be made much smaller than a discrete circuit made from independent electronic
components. ICs can be made very compact, having up to several billion transistors and
other electronic components in an area the size of a fingernail. The width of each conducting line
in a circuit can be made smaller and smaller as the technology advances; in 2008 it dropped
below 100 nanometres. And now is tens of nanometres.
Lastly, we visited the University of the Cordilleras, formerly known as Baguio Colleges
Foundation (BCF). It is a private university in Baguio City, Philippines. The school is situated at
the heart of the city, near Our Lady of Atonement Church (the Baguio Cathedral), hotels,
restaurants, and shopping malls. The faculties and students there are very accommodating and
friendly. The school is so big but I can see the cleanliness especially in their CR. Their IT
College is so beautiful and fascinating.
Their computer labs are good. They have internet connection in each lab. Their enrolment
system is online. The library is too big and they have special basketball court. They conducted us
a seminar that tackles Photoshop, 3D animation, and the courses they offered which are Bachelor
of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Information, System Bachelor of
Science in Information Technology and Associate in Computer Technology.

Reflection Paper for Group 1 Local Seminar

There are many Purpose of academic gatherings or seminars. In our seminar last February
3, the purpose is to develop our skills in 3D animation. Our speaker is Mr. Jairo Gonzal, an
instructor in Bulacan Agricultural State College in Balagtas, Organizing a seminar is too
difficult, there are many things to do. And success may achieve if there is a teamwork. In our
section, there are people who is in charge in foods, ice breaker, flow of the program, prizes,
invitations, certificates and the search for the speaker. Academic gatherings are critical to a
professors role as a creator of knowledge. Research, teaching and service do not take place in
isolation, rather every field of knowledge is enhanced by the interactions of academics studying
similar, related or even different things in different places. When they come together and talk
about what they have learned there is tremendous potential for leaps in knowledge and
understanding.

Academic conferences range in size from small with a very specific focus, to very large
with a broader range of fields of study and issues. Preparing for such gatherings is extremely
time intensive and requires some experience and a collaborative effort among many individuals.
New faculty members should seek out academic gatherings that help them expand their thinking
and get involved in participating in the behind the scenes work from the outset of their careers.
Starting small and taking on gradually more responsibility is expected of faculty members. Be
careful not to take on too much too soon, however, since there are many demands on a faculty
members time.

Once you have established a relevant set of conferences you plan to attend on an
ongoing basis, get involved in helping organize, set up, and plan for upcoming events. The
connections you will make compensate for the time it takes to get involved. Just be sure to set
boundaries so that you do not take on too much. Mid-career faculty should step up their
involvement in conference organizing as they look to build their service to the profession
component of their vita.
