About Bikaner

Founded in 1488, Bikaner is a desert built on an elevation and surrounded by a long embattled wall pierced
by five gates. A magnificent fort built between 1588 & 1593 by Raja Raj Singh dominates the city.

Sheer beauty in the desert is the royal fortified city of Bikaner. Lying at the northern tip of the famous triangle
of the desert cities, Bikaner stands on a slightly raised ground and is circumscribed by a long embattled wall
having five entrance gates.

The genesis of Bikaner dates back to 1488, when a Rathore prince, Rao Bikaji, son of Rao Jodhaji of
Jodhpur, chose a barren wilderness called ’Jangladesh’ and transformed it to a charming city called
’Bikaner’, after the founder’s name. Its location on the ancient caravan routes, which linked Central Asia and
North India with the Gujarat seaports, made Bikaner a bustling trade centre in the times of yore. Bikaner’s
forts, palaces and temples – magnificent creations in red and yellow sandstone, are living manifestations of
its rich historical and architectural legacy. One can feel the medieval aura pervading the city’s lifestyle. Not
only do the traditions come alive here in colourful bazaars and havelis, but also Bikaner is famous for the
best riding camels in the world. One can witness gaily-caparisoned camels at the spectacular Camel Festival
at Bikaner, held annually.

MEDICAL COLLEGE BIKANER:

Sardar Patel Medical College (SPMC) : this college has 100 seats for MBBS and 63 for the post grad
students. and 18 in diploma & one seat in DM cardiology. It was established in 1959 and was Rajasthan's
second Medical college.

Admission to B.Sc Ag. (Hons) Part I is done through Joint Entrance Test (JET) conducted by the Rajasthan
Agricultural University at the time and place notified by the controller of Examinations, Rajasthan Agricultural
University, Bikaner. The minimum eligibility for a candidate to appear in this test is that the candidate must
have passed 12th of the 10+2 (Academic) scheme of examination with agriculture/science group of the
board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan or an examination declared equivalent to it with prescribed
percentage of marks mentioned in the admission notification.

M.Sc. (Ag).
Admission to M.Sc. (Ag). is done through a competitive Pre-Post-Graduate (Ag). test conducted by
Rajasthan Agricultural University at the time and place announced by the controller of examinations of the
university. The minimum eligibility for a candidate to appear in this test is that the candidate must have
passed B.Sc. (Ag). Hons./B.Sc. (Ag)/B.V.Sc. & A.H/B.Sc.(H.Sc.) degree examination of Rajasthan
Agricultural University, Bikaner or an examination declared equivalent to it with prescribed percentage of
marks/O.G.P.A. specified in the notification. Following specialisations are offered in M.Sc. :

Ph.D. (Course Work)

A candidate must have a minimum overall grade point average (OGPA) of 3.2 on 4.0 point scale or 7.0 or
10.0 point scale or 65 % marks in aggregate under traditional system at master's degree level in the
concerned subject.

The establishment of the Maharaja Ganga Singh, University at Bikaner marks an This University has been
established under the Maharaja Ganga Singh, University, Act, 2003 which was notified in the Rajasthan
Gazzette on June, 7, 2003.this university has affiliated over 70 colleges located in the districts of Churu,
Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Bikaner. About 1 lakh students are enrolled in various programmes like
BA,B.Com, M.Com, MA, Ph.D., etc

infrastructure. It is an autonomous body set up by Government of Rajasthan. It has over 3000 students in

B.J.S. Rampuria College : It has many courses like MBA, LLB, LLM, B.Com, BA,BCA, MA, MCM, BBA,
M.Com, and diploma programmes. Established in 1934, it is one of the oldest instituitons in this region. It's
management faculty (Institute of Management Studies) is one of the oldest business schools in the region.
It's law faculty is also one of the oldest law faculty in this region. It also conducts training in French, Tourism,
