Overview and Course Objectives


The purpose of this course is to enhance the
knowledge on concepts and methods of
characterisation and testing of building materials.
The participants will be given training on various
characterisation techniques on state of the art
equipments. At the end of the course, the
participants are expected to have fair understanding
of:
Various techniques required for Characterisation
of building materials
Testing methods for the strength and durability
assessment of building materials.

In order to augment the infrastructure for advanced


research and to attain excellence in innovative
research in materials technology, a centre of
excellence - Materials Research Centre, has been
created at MNIT Jaipur. The Materials Research
Centre (MRC) aims to harness the talent resources
for
promoting
interdisciplinary
research
in
appropriate materials technologies. Besides catering
to the research needs of the institutional faculty &
students, the state of the art research facilities of the
Materials Research Centre have been extended to
the scientists, faculty and researchers of other
institutes as well as to private sector/ industries.
MRC also contemplates imparting training to
qualified potential users on the operation of the
available instruments and the interpretation of data.
The centre encourages inquiries concerning the
development of new methodologies and welcomes
contract and potential collaborative work. MRC staff
and faculty are highly trained and quite thorough on
application of these state of the art experimental
facilities.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at faculty of engineering at


Degree / Diploma levels, PG students, Research
Scholars, practicing engineers in government &
industry, who intend to learn and/or teach building
material characterization and testing techniques.
Persons from Civil, Mechanical, Metallurgical and
Materials Engineering backgrounds are eligible to
apply.

General Information

Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT)


Jaipur is one of the NITs established by Ministry of
Human
Resource
Development
(MHRD),
Government of India (GOI). Earlier, the Institute,
known as MREC Jaipur, was established in 1963 as
a joint venture of the GOI and the Government of
Rajasthan. Later in 2002, the college was given the
status of National Institute of Technology, and on 15
August 2007, proclaimed Institute of National
Importance through Act of Parliament. MNIT
campus spreads over 325 acres of lush green area
in the prime location of Jaipur city. Last year, the
Institute celebrated 50 years of teaching and
excellence by organising nearly 800 events in its
Golden Jubilee year. At present, in addition to the
research, consultancy and developmental activities,
the Institute offers UG and PG level courses
(M.Tech./M.Sc. & Ph.D.) to about 4500 students in
almost all leading fields of engineering, technology,
management and sciences.

How to Reach MNIT

Jaipur is well connected by road, rail and air


services. MNIT is situated on Jawaharlal Lal Nehru
(JLN) Marg and is about 9 kms from main-railway
station as well as Central Bus Stand (Sindhi Camp)
of Jaipur. Airport (located at Sanganer) is about 5
kms away from the institute.

The participant will not be paid any TA/DA.


Accommodation and travelling expenses are to be
borne by the participants or their respective
institutes. Limited accommodation on actual may be
available at MNIT Guest House/ Hostels. A request
for this need is to be made well in advance. The
organizers will provide the working lunch.
Registration fee can be sent in the form of Demand
Draft (D.D. issued by any nationalized bank in
favour of The Registrar, MNIT Jaipur payable at
Jaipur). The number of participants will be restricted
to 30 only.
