CULTURE AND THE ARTS PLAN
(MUSIC)
January- June 2015
1.

Activity: Violin Lessons

Target Date: January 12- June 30, 2015
Participants: Selected Elementary School Pupils of Palo
Venue: Second Floor, Palo Municipal Building
Objectives:
a) Develop and enhance the musical skills and talents of the youth of
Palo by teaching them the basics of playing the violin- correct
posture, left hand technique, right hand technique (bowing) and ear
training;
b) Provide a venue for enhancement of musical skills and talents with
the end of promoting and preserving the culture of music of the
Paloanos.
Methodology:
Pupils from the Elementary Schools within Palo who attended the Brass
Band Workshop conducted by the Phil Banda last September 2014 will be the
trainees for the Violin lessons. Since they are not yet capable of handling and
playing brass band instruments, considering the size and weight of such
instruments, it was decided that they would be potential players for the string
orchestra than in a brass band. Lessons will be based on the Suzuki Violin
Method which is a widely used method in other parts of the world because of
its child friendly approach to learning the violin as compared to that of the
conventional conservatory approach. To ensure an efficient and effective
learning process, prospective trainees will be asked to provide themselves
with their own instrument but the lessons will be given for free. The Suzuki
violin method book will be provided the trainees so that they can review and
practice the lessons at home. The lessons will be conducted on a daily basis
Mondays thru Fridays only from 5:30-6:30 pm. During the beginning part of
the lessons, ear training will be emphasized over musical notation reading.
Output:

At the end of each volume of the Suzuki Violin Method, trainees will be
able to play all the pieces they have learned during the conduct of the
lessons with an improved left hand and right hand technique including ear
training skills.
2.
