Deepening and widening of Main Harbour Channel and JN Port channel.

JNPT shares about 22.0 Km long main harbour channel with Mumbai Port. Mumbai harbour
channel is presently maintained to a depth of 10.7 to 11 mtrs below Chart Datum. JNPT is
having a navigational channel of 7.2 kms in length, which is maintained to a depth of 11 mtrs
below Chart Datum. At present, large size vessels having a draught up to 12.5 mtrs. navigate
through Mumbai harbour main channel and JNP channel, making use of tidal window. The Port
is deepening and widening the existing channel to accommodate up to 14 mtrs. Draught vessels
(i.e. +6000 TEU) by using tidal window. M/s. TATA Consulting Engineering Ltd. is the
Engineer for this project. The Port has awarded the work to M/s Boskalis International BV on
1st August 2012 at the cost of Rs.1370 crores. The work is in progress and by end of
30th November 2013 about 54 Million CuM quantity is dredged which is 90% of the work.

II.

Road Infrastructure:

JN Port is connected by National Highway- 4B to Mumbai - Pune Highway/ Expressway (NH-4)


and Mumbai - Goa Highway (NH-17). JNPT is also connected through State Highway- 54 &
Amra Marg to Navi Mumbai area, Thane, Nashik & Ahmedabad.
To improve the Port's road connectivity, widening of the said roads has been completed by four
laning the existing two lane road of NH-4B (including small portion of NH-4) from port up to
Mumbai- Pune Highway/ Express way and by four laning SH-54 from Port to Gavan Phata and
improvement to Amra Marg up to junction of Sion Panvel Highway near Belapur.
The scheme is being implemented by forming a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed by
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), JNPT and CIDCO. The contribution in equity of
SPV from NHAI, JNPT and CIDCO is Rs.97 Crores, Rs.40 Crores and Rs.9 Crores, respectively
and the balance amount has been raised as a loan from financial institutions/ Banks/ others and
the total cost of the project shall be recovered by charging toll.
As regards work of SH-54 & Amra Marg, the same is completed except the work held up due to
land acquisition problem near Jasai village. The matter has been taken up with the State
Government.

The NHAI has taken up the project of 6/8 laning NH4B/SH 54 and construction of Grade
Separator at Karal and Gavan Junction on DBFOT basis. CCEA clarance from Cabinet
committee of economic affairs has accorded its approval to the project and the RFP shall be
invited shortly.

III.

Extension of Container Berth and other facilities at JN Port.

In view of the expected growth in container traffic, the Port is developing a standalone container
handling facility with a quay length of 330 m towards north on DBFOT basis. The estimated
cost of the project is Rs. 600 Crores with an estimated capacity addition of about 10.0 million
Tonnes (i.e. 0.8 million TEU's ) per annum. The Port has issued LOA to M/s DP World Pvt. Ltd.
who has quoted the revenue share of 28.09%. The Port has entered into concession agreement
with DP World Pvt. Ltd. with SPV company namely Nhava Sheva (India) Gateway Terminal Pvt.
Ltd. on 19/06/2013.

IV.

Development of Fourth Container Terminal.

It is envisaged from various studies that the Port would be required to handle container traffic to
the tune of 10 million TEU's in year 2014-15. In order to handle the additional traffic volume,
further terminal facility will be required. In view of this, JNPT has decided to develop Fourth
Container Terminal on DBFOT basis. The LOA has been issued to M/s PSA Mumbai
Investments Pte Ltd. in September 2011. However, M/s. PSA has not signed the concession
agreement, therefore the Port has withdrawn letter of Award.
Subsequently, the Port has appointed M/s TATA Consulting Engineers for reviewing the
feasibility report prepared in 2006. Based on the report Port has prepared RFQ document.
Estimated cost of the Project is Rs.7915 crores. The container handling capacity will be 4.8
Million TEUs.
The Port has invited global tender for Request for Qualification. Port has also appointed M/s
RITES Pvt. Ltd. as Transaction Advisor for the project. On 19.08.2013, RFQ's from 08 agencies
are received. The 07 agencies are qualified for issue of RFP's.

V.

Development of Additional Liquid Berth at JNPT

In order to cater for increased liquid cargo traffic, the Port has decided to develop additional
liquid cargo berth on DBFOT basis. The DPR including master plan for this project is to be
prepared by Consultant engaged by JNPT. Port has appointed M/s L & T Rambol as a
consultant The Master Plan is submitted by the Consultant. The project will be implemented on
DBFOT basis. The Port has appointed M/s. RITES Pvt. Ltd as Transaction Advisor. The Port has
received RFQ's from 07 agencies on 11.11.2013. The evaluation is in progress.

VI.

Rail Connectivity:

The Port is connected to the national network of the Railways through the Panvel- Uran section
of the Central Railway. Panvel is further connected to Kokan Railway. Diva on Central Railway
and Vasai (Bassein Road) on the Western Railway. Recently, the railway line between JNPT and
Panvel has been connected into double line, to meet the requirements of increasing container
traffic through ICD'S. The Ministry of Railways has planned for a dedicated freight corridor
connecting JNPT with the Northern hinter land. The work is being taken up by Dedicated
Freight Corridor Co. Ltd.

VII.

Centralized Parking Plaza:

The JN Port has decided to develop about 45 ha. area parking in Phases. For Phase-I work,
tenders are received. In this phase 22 hectare area will be developed upto Water Bound
Macadam Stage. The work will begin by December 2013 and will be completed by November
2014. The Port has appointed IIT Mumbai for conducting soil investigation studies for Phase-II
work. The Phase-II work of developing of about 33 hectare area, will commence by November
2014 and will be completed by December 2015.

VIII.

Environmental aspects:

Port's ambient water and air quality is being monitored monthly through NETAL India and the
results are generally found within the prescribed limits. Port has developed about 1100 ha. of
green area including mangroves. Plantation of about 40,000 saplings was carried out during the
year 2011-12. The Port has taken up various projects for use of renewable energy in Port's
Operational area. Initiatives to move towards renewable energy sources are as under:
Developing 7 MW Wind energy Project for the Captive use of JNPT.
Consultant appointed. Feasibility report & Draft Tender document are submitted by the
Consultant. Tender has been floated and bids are to be received on th Nov. 2013.
Development of Solar power plant of 200 KW on roof top of Admn. Building is in planning
stage.

The Port is also planning to develop comprehensive solid waste management system. The
Port has been accredited with ISO 14001-2004 certificate and also won the prestigious Golden
Peacock Award 2012.
IX.
Deepening and Widening of Mumbai Harbour Channel and JN Port Channel
(Phase-II):
The dredging project for Deepening the channel from 14mtrs. (Phase-I) to 17mtrs. is in planning
stage. The Port has appointed M/s Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd in consortium with M/s Earnst
and Young as a consultant for preparation of feasibility report for Phase-II capital dredging
project. The consultant has completed the studies and submitted the feasibility report.
Consultants recommended that the navigational channel will be deepened upto 15.8 m below CD
to cater for the design vessel of 9000 TEU with a tidal window of 2.2 mtrs. The estimated
project cost is Rs.2706 crores.

X.

Modernization of JNPCT:

Commissioning of 3 Super Post Panamax RMQCs and shifting of 3 old RMQCs are expected to
be completed by the May 2014. (Total cost Rs. 98.80 crores). There will be capacity addition of
0.225 million TEUs/year.
Acquisition of 6 Nos. RTGCs for yard operations, order placed on 27th June 2013 to M/s.
Anupam Industries Ltd. at a cost of Rs. 59.6 crores, and will be commissioned by June-2014.
