Being the eldest son from a humble family, expectations were set upon my shoulders.

I was
expected to be responsible, to lead by example, and to own my mistakes. These made me a
conscientious person, at the same time pushed me to aim for a vision bigger than myself, in
essence, lifting my familys economic status.
As I enter a journey in college and through the influence of my peers and blogs I consume, I
decided that this is the best time to utilize my youthful energies in productive pursuits. As I found
out, there are organizations teams in my school that advocates positive change formed by
diverse individuals bounded by a passion to serve. I became interested and became active as a
member through my second year, and as I participated in the activities, I realized that I could
extend my vision beyond my own life and make a positive impact on the community we are
serving via application of the theories I learned from books and blogs of persons I respect. There
is a unique feeling of fulfillment in acting into an idea and witnessing it to be part of ones reality.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, an ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.

When you are from a financially challenged family, it doesnt matter what you want, what
matters is a program that secures a job after graduation. During high school, I dreamt of being
an entrepreneur. The idea of spending my intellectual and economical resources in building
something that contributes to the community and earning value in return sounds appealing to
me. With these in mind, my mother convinced me that the suitable program for me would be a
degree in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.
I dont have any practical experience as an accountant. As an entrepreneur, I have a summer job
as a seller in a bakery when I was fourteen.

I am doing my best to be a role model to my younger siblings, and a responsible son to my loving
parents. I am currently a student assistant of College of Science at Adamson University, and the
conference head of St. Francis Regis Clet Conference, a sub group of Student Assistants at AdU. It
is my pleasure to be part of Enactus-Adamson team, an organization dedicated to enabling progress
through entrepreneurial action, as an auditor.
I spend my free time reading nonfiction books, blogs and podcasts on anything that interests me,
usually covers self-development backed up by science, philosophy, psychology, and learning. I
believe that to understand others, we must first understand ourselves. This different
perspectives challenges my beliefs on my purpose as a human being. I also find utility in writing
my thoughts and reflections on my journal, and having a healthy conversation about ideas with
my friends and family.

I see my participation on this camp as an opportunity to ignite my nationalism as a Filipino. I

always thought that there is hope for the Philippines, and I want to be part of the solution.
I believe that this camp will give me a set of new eyes to see my country as my home, and my
fellow Filipinos not just another stranger, but a part of a family to be respected and cared for.
I believe that this experience will awaken the potential in me that my efforts matter, no matter
how small it maybe. This will strengthen my confidence in my contributions and bring out the
leader in me.

It is also inspiring to meet individuals with a passion to make a difference. This network can lead
to potential future collaborations that that could deliver a greater impact than any individual
could do alone.

Increase in awareness and understanding about the economic, political, and social issues
surrounding my country. With understanding comes wisdom, so I can decide what efforts are
worth it and what is a mere distraction.
Strengthen my intrinsic motivation to serve in a cause bigger than myself, especially since its
seductive to accept the status quo and fall into extrinsic motivations (e.g., prestige, money,
fame). Being intrinsically motivated would cause me to be committed and avoid being ningaskugon, and I think this camp will assist me in that journey.
Open my mind to new possibilities or one that has existed but I was too ignorant to notice. My
biggest fear is having regrets, and I dont want to miss the opportunity to matter.

pagkamalikhain at kultura. Pag-asa ng bawat organisasyon tulad ng Yabang Pinoy na naniniwala
sa kakayahan ng lahing Pilipino. Pag-asa ng bawat Pilipino sa kinabukasan na nag-uumapaw sa
oportunidad, kalayaan, at kapayapaan. Ito ang nagtutulak sa atin na sumigaw ng Pinoy ako! Buo
aking loob, may agimat ang dugo ko!

Twelve years ago a book on opinions about Filipino and his culture was published. This book,
entitled Bakit Baliktad Magbasa ng Libro ang mga Pilipino became a hit due to the witty
remarks and unconventional opinions of the author. The book concluded the case of Philippines
as hopeless and no one cares. I want to challenge that conclusion, and initiate a new movement
among the Filipino youth. The internet is a powerful medium when used right, and I think I could
use this as a platform to spread an idea through blogging. I hope to inspire a reader, one by one
to challenge the status quo instead of submitting to it, and make something happen in their
individual lives, family, and community. If we could influence enough people to care, these could
start a ripple effect that could change the culture among the youth.

As of now, I have not thought of a concrete example, but I think that I will be very interested in
organizing a group built with a vision of educating the masses on how they can spend their time
on making a living effectively through entrepreneurial means. Unemployment is one of the

problems of the country, and this causes our own workforce to find opportunities in other
countries where the grass is greener. What if they could learn to use their skills and talents on
building a small business, one that would benefit themselves and the community? We know that
entrepreneurs play a crucial part in the economic development of a country, and if we could
connect the right idea to people, we could create an impact. We just need to see the opportunity
in the banal, and put it into action.
