those seeking to polish their business and leadership skills.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130 Section 01
Brother Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Sketch and create a flier to incorporate typography skills and apply design
principles. Organize a layout with visual flow using an image and text.

Process:

First I sketched four different layouts on paper. I picked my fwavorite two

sketches out of the four and sketched another layout with aspects that
I liked from the first two sketches. Then I used Adobe InDesign to begin
designing the flier that I sketched. I contrasted different elements of the
flier through differing shades of black and white. I imade the image at the
top the focal point for the audience, then I emphasized different elements
down the page so that the eyes of the audience would flow in a downward
direction. I made sure that the date, time, and place of the conference
were easily seen. Lastly, I balanced the page with the logo in the bottom
right hand corner.

images.

COMM 130 Section 01
Brother Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe InDesign

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Incorporate design prinicples with emphasis on focal point and flow to

create a unified layout with a spiritual messsage. Blend two quality photos
together to create the appearance of one image.

Process:

First, I found the background image that I wanted to use for this project. I
saved the image and uploaded it to photoshop. Then, I resized the image,
cadded a new layer with my second image and masked both images
together. I added the quote by Winston Churchill and masked each word
except courage. Then I added the horizontal lines for repetition within
my design and I added the horizontal line for a better flow.

Logos
Description:

Three completely different logos that represent a fresh food grocery store
that will appeal to a health-seeking audience.

Date:

February 21, 2015

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130 Section 01
Brother Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives:

Create three unique and different logos for a company. Use only illlustrator
toold to design logos, no images or tracing.

Process:

I used Adobe Illustrator to create these three logos for Freshlies

Groceries. I started with the leaf logo in the middle and I used the ellipse
tool to create a circle, and then I used the direct selection tool to change
the curves of the circle so it was shaped like a leaf. I then used the pen
tool to add anchor points to create the inside of the leaf, and then I filled
it with a different shade of green. I followed these same steps with the
other two logos. On the last logo I simply used the pen tool to make boxes
and then I used the selection tool to manipulate those blocks to look like
strands of grass.

are grieving the loss of a child or parent.

Date:

Course/Instructor:
COMM 130 Section 01
Brother Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:

Microsoft Word
PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)
HP lazer jet enterprise mfpm725 scanner.

Objectives:

Find and scan a large, quality image and import it into Microsoft Word.
Create a full-bleed design and use a color scheme that works with
the message and audience. Learn how to design without using Adobe
Programs.

Process:

I scanned a picture of the two toddlers from a National Geographic

magazine. From there I transferred the image into Microsoft Word where
I enlarged it and cropped it. I originally had a band of grey stretching
from the bottom to the top of the image where the text is now, but the
background was not contrasted enough to see the text. I changed that
grey band to black so the orange was easier to see. Then I balanced the
orange text on one side of the project with orange text on the other side.

Web Page
Description:

Personally designed web page to showcase a newly designed logo.

Date:

Course/Instructor:

Program(s)/Tools:
TextWrangler
Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Photoshop

Objectives:

Size original logo to fit the screen of the web page, describe logo and how
it appeals to the intended audience, use validated HTML and CSS coding
to create web page layout and content, and use hexidecimal colors to
emphasize logo.

Process:

I used adobe illustrator to create the whale logo, then I used TextWrangler
to create my HTML and CSS pages. I began with the HTML page where
I wrote all of the information that I wanted on the page. I then created
and linked my CSS page to my HTML page, and organized all of the
information in that CSS page. I combined the coral color with grey for my
color scheme. I changed my fonts to Calibri for Body Copy and Bodoni for
the title fonts. I did make sure to have similar back-up fonts. I added a
padding specifically around the logo, the text, and the top and bottom of
the page so the elements didnt look too cluttered.

Business Card
Description:

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign

Objectives:

Use basic tools in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create a new logo to
fit a company. Create a business card and letterhead that has a full-bleed.
Apply typography rules and design principles.

Process:

I used Adobe illustrator to create the logo of the white whale and I used
the pen curvature tool for the majority of the whale. Then, I copied that
white whale and put this copy inside the white whale. I colored this copy
pink and made it smaller.
Then I took the circle tool and created two white circles right next to each
other to make the spout at the top of the white whale. I then made even
larger pink circles and put these below the white circles. I used the square
tool with rounded edges to create the stem of the spout. I repeated this
process for the small pink whale. For the other side of the card, I copied
the little pink whale and put it next to my name for repetition. I filled in all
of my information and tried to line up all of the text with my name at the
top.

Process:

I opened adobe InDesign and inserted my logo at the top of the page
first. I then added the dashed line across the page to my name. I colored
this pink, and then I inserted all of my information below my name, under
the dashed line. Finally, I copied the little pink whale from my logo and set
its opacity way down so it looked like a watermark. I put this watermark at
the bottom of the page to unify the elements.

Photo Design
Description:

Incorporate a color scheme and a personally taken photo into a design.

COMM 130 Section 01
Brother Cory Kerr

Program(s)/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop
Nikon Camera

Objectives:

Take a photo with a quality camera, then upload the image into photshop
to adjust the levels of brightness, color, and saturation. Use layers to
design text and repeating elements in Photoshop.

Process:

I first took may pictures of the chess pieces from all different angles.
I used a borrowed Nikon camera to capture the main chess piece
in front while the foreground (other chess pieces) were blurred in
the background. I edited this photo so it looked crisp and vibrant in
a Photoshop document. I created boxes of various sizes and colors
(according to the color scheme) to create the background. Then I found
a font that I wanted to use and played around with the colors until all the
elements blended together nicely.
