2008 saw the installation of the first 320 Slice
CT Scanner in India the worlds most
advanced technology in diagnostic imaging, as
well as Indias first CyberKnife at Apollo
Speciality Cancer Hospital, Chennai. The

Padma Bhushan Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, FounderChairman of the Apollo Hospitals Group has
shaped and nurtured the ethos of Apollo
Hospitals with his vision and inspiring leadership.
Recognised as the architect of Indias healthcare
revolution, Dr. Reddy has made Apollo Hospitals
a centre for medical excellence, innovation and
a catalyst of positive change.
Dr. Reddy migrated back from the US in the
mid-1970s and set up his cardiology practice in
India. Moved by the death of a patient who
could not afford to travel to the US for
treatment, Dr. Reddy embarked on a mission to
work towards improving the healthcare
infrastructure in India.
He built Apollo Hospitals in 1983 with a
team of 25 members. Today, Apollo

Apollo introduced a paradigm shift in healthcare
in India by making available multi-speciality 360degree medical care. This meant that patients
could get the entire range of services under one
roof: preventive care, emergency aid, diagnostics,
consultation, treatment and rehabilitation.
Apollos pursuit of excellence has resulted in
the development of revolutionary centres of
distinction across medical disciplines. These have
already touched and cured millions of patients.
Apollos Institute for Cardiology and
Cardiothoracic surgery is one of the largest
such groups in the world.
Similarly constituted, the Institute of
Gastroenterology and Hepatology specialises in
the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of
diseases of the digestive tract and liver. The

Apollo Hospitals is constantly adding
to its competency and upgrading its
already existing infrastructure. A fine
example of this is the Apollo Childrens
Hospital that was inaugurated in July
2009. The hospital is a multi-speciality
facility dedicated to children.
Apollo Hospitals with nearly 1000
pharmacies in the country is the
stakeholder of the largest pharmacy chain
in India. Apollo Hospitals is in the process
of implementing new projects at
Bhubaneswar, Navi Mumbai, Thane and
Visakhapatnam.
In one of the first-of-its-kind initiatives in
India, Apollo entered into a joint venture with
British American Hospitals Enterprise Limited
and commissioned the Apollo Bramwell
Hospitals in Mauritius. Another joint venture has
been formed with Lavasa Corporation Limited

The Apollo Hospitals Group lays a great deal of
importance on education and research.
Towards this end,
it runs eleven schools
and colleges of nursing,
two institutions for
hospital administration
and a college of
physiotherapy.
Diplomate National
Board (DNB) courses
are conducted at

in over twenty

has been running
programmes to train
paramedical personnel
including emergency
medical technicians and
laboratory technicians.

Apollo Liver Clinic at Chennai a novel

Health Knowledge City a state-of-the-art
