Part A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards
quality enhancement .
I.V. Patel college of Commerce, Nadiad underwent successfully the process of accreditation
in the academic year 2007-08. The college was accredited with B grade (2.19) from NAAC in
March 2008.After accreditation in 2007-08, the institution has been constantly focussing on
the core areas of improvement as suggested by the NAAC Peer Team in the evaluative
report. Accordingly, this year too , the IQAC revamped its policies and practices to vigilantly
execute and augment the quality parameters of the institution for the academic year 20112012. The Principal, faculty members , administrative staff, management authorities and
other stakeholders held several formal meetings and concentrated on the plan of the

institution for the year 2011-12.


The IQAC chalked out the plan for the aforesaid year as under :

The institution aims to introduce 3 new certified courses with the help of UGC in the
subjects like Banking, TALLY and insurance.

The institution aims to establish a Commerce Laboratory to provide practical


knowledge to the students of Commerce.

Sending students as ambassadors to unprivileged sections of society for Cleanliness,


Hygiene go-green etc.under the activities of NSS.

Signing MOUs with different agencies.

We wish to encourage more of our girl students to participate in sports.

We realize the need to increase industrial visits.

Establishment of DELL (Digital English Learning Lab) too is in our priority list ( with
the assistance of Gujarat Govt.)

Seminars and workshops to be held for the benefit of students.

Minor projects by faculty.

More publications by Faculty.

Focus on FDPs.

To improve the result of our students we aim to reconsider our Assignments which
are distributed for the practice of the learners.

Outcome achieved by the end of the year.


The IQAC reviewed periodically the plan of action and progress throughout the year and
achieved the aforementioned targets:

It was a good year for academic enhancement as the institution of late, received
the UGC permission to start TWO new courses: Banking and Insurance. These
courses will commence from the next academic year2012- 2013 as this academic
year is about to close. Apart from this, the institution has been able to
successfully conduct soft skill and foundation courses in Personality
Development, TALLY, Environment, and Leadership as per the Guj. Uni. norms.

A multi-purpose laboratory has been established by the institution to deliver


integrated education to the students. A Commerce lab. Is functioning in it to
widen and enhance the awareness of basic commercial concepts in the day to
day commercial dealings like Forms for opening a De mat Account, new Savings

Account, and Memorandum of Association etc.

Under the institutions CWDC, NSS and NCC wings the institution did confer its
responsibility towards society by extending its social services in and out of
Nadiad. Unique days like, Give Nadiad Gift Nadiad were celebrated to share
happiness with the lesser blessed ones. The students of this institution went in
and the surrounding areas of the city to propagate the importance of literacy,
cleanliness, hygiene and other values.

Quite successfully, the institution affiliated itself with Krishna Arogya Trust,
Karamsad faculty members as well as the students were enrolled in the Krupa
Card Scheme whereby free treatment facilitated by annual subscription of
nominal amount of just Rs. 50/- each member can avail of medical facilities
worth Rs. 5000/ per year
The institution already has its affiliation with the Kheda District Co-operative
Society, Nadiad which holds training classes for interested students every year.
The institution has girl students coming from very conservative backgrounds and
its worth mentioning that a physically disabled girl bagged a cash prize of Rs.
25,000/- in a Race Competition held by the Guj. Govt.s MahaKhel Kumbh.
Two industrial tours for students in the nearby areas of Nadiad were arranged to
give a practical knowledge of business units.
The institution has registered itself with the SCOPE and 63 students appeared in
the OAS.
A Digital Education Learning Lab is already under construction and we aim
to benefit maximum students by upgrading their level of English language and
by introducing more productive courses which can enhance employability
chances of the students.
Several Seminars were held by the institution for the benefit of the learners:
International Trainer Dr. Vidyasagar from Vidya Mind Research Training
Institute held a day seminar on Emerge your Inner Power,
Sanjay Raval addressed the students on Personality Development seminar
conducted by the institution for betterment of the personality of the students.
PT Education organised a day seminar to preparing students for Clerical EXAMs
of Bank and post office.
Workshop was arranged on Career Opportunities in Quality Management by
the MPQM, V.V.Nagar. It was also an educational visit for them to saw the
working of dept. of Stats, MPQM.
Kheda Distri ct Cooperative Society, Nadiad which holds training Programme
for Final Year students visited AMUL, took a visit to the Amul Milk Marketing
Federation, Anand, Karamsad Sardar Patel Memorial Trust , The adjoined
Museum . Visit proved fruitful as the learners got intimated about the
production , marketing and cooperative movement.
Three faculty members applied for minor research projects aided by the UGC. A
project has been approved.
Faculty members have co-authored more than 18 books in different subjects of
commerce stream and articles too of ISSN LEVEL.
For the development of faculty members Two faculty members attended a
weeks training held by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, Dept. of
Education,Gandhinagar.
- As the institution revamped its library facility with the introduction of N-LIST

( A Programme launched by the MHRD) an orientation programme was held


to guide the students and staff.
- The faculty in charge for the NSS participated in NSS Programme Officer
Orientation as Personality Development Programme . Similarly, an NSS
Orientation Programme was attended.
- Placement Cell in-charge faculty attended Training camp held by the Govt. of
Gujarat, Udisha at Gandhinagar. Secondly, a workshop for the placement cell
was attended
- The faculty members paid a visit to SEMCOM, Vallabh Vidyanagar ( Anand) to
exchange ideas regarding the upkeep of quality enhancement measures.
- Apart from the academic staff the administrative staff members too participated
in different trainings and workshops held by the Knowledge Consortium of
Gujarat..
Besides the distribution of assignments, MCQs and other reading and
practicing material were provided to students to improve the academic
excellence of the students. The institution goes a long way to guide the weak
and needy students.
The students of NCC, NSS, and CWDC actively participated in extension activities for
the development of life skills besides the regular activities of the units.
Marg salamati Saptah- 1-1-12 to 7-1-12 organised under the undertaking of
NSS./ NCC.
Campus interviews were held by different companies like Vodafone, Bajaj
Allianz, Mahindra Finance, Tata Nano etc. and more than 150 students attended
and benefited from the same. Three students were selected in the Nationalised
Bank (VIJAYA BANK).
Social services like distribution of clothes, stationary items, to school students
were conducted.
The freshers were intimated and encouraged to make optimum use of Internet
and Computer.
As mentioned in the last year report the faculty encouraged students to do such
projects which could instil in them the sense of entrepreneurship, responsibility
towards society and environment.
The institution worked enthusiastically with the Shree Krishna Hospital and 800
plus benefited from them.
As per year this year too , the students were benefited by the General
Awareness Test inter college competition held by the JCIs.
Two students bagged the first place and won cash prize.
A faculty was runner up in Table Tennis, stood first as Mrs.Charotar, Anand
a faculty stood first in Essay Writing, in Gujarat yuva Taluka Mahotsav
Impromptu poetry writing etc.
A number of students took advantage of the local Gymnastic a Fitness Complex
& Atlanitca Asanyogic Centre, Nadiad.
The JMTC, Anand bonding proved beneficial to the Third year students specially
as they were invited for many career oriented lectures through out the year.
Career oriented programmes were held by PT Education, MQPM Dept., S P Uni.
V V Nagar, Frankfinn , N-Power- Hardware & Networking, Ahemdabad.
Apart from developing the students and faculty academically the institutions
ties with the Prajapati Brahmakumaris branch in Nadiad took the onus to
develop the spiritual and moral side of our knowledge seekers.

Part B: Details in respect of the following :


1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:

The institution laid importance on the Personal, Social, National and Spiritual
development of its knowledge seekers. To guarantee the participation of optimal
number of students ,they were free to register themselves in one or more than one
WINGS of the Saptdharas ( a government initiative). For the holistic development of
each knowledge seeker, new student- centric activities were introduced. The students
participated enthusiastically in seminars and other academic and extra curricular
activities within the college and the colleges belonging to the nearby area. Looking
academically, students of both UG and PG zealously prepared projects on different
topics with the aid of Power Point presentations. The striking factor was they
intermingled with the lower sections of society where they learnt about their livelihood.
Sharing of their experiences with classmates and teaching faculty was eye opening for
all.
With an increase in the academic, extracurricular activities was more consequential as it
was promisingly inter-active. Feedbacks were received and innovations were introduced
where and if required.
To enhance the Spiritual Quotient as usual but with a difference a book exhibition with
an open discourse session was held in the campus inviting the sister institutions where
with the help of Gayatri Parivar ,Anand . Lectures by spiritual leaders of Brmhakumaris
and Gayatri Parivar was an effort by the institution to teach everyone to strike a balance
between both Spirituality and Materialism.
Umpteen activities and projects were held to make our students compassionate pillars
of society like Charity Day, Fund collection for the blind , visits to primary school
children in municipal schools, distribution of clothes and school kits etc. Moreover , the
institution invited the government authorities to hold a programme on Rashtirya
Matdan Din for the youth of the institution. Give Nadiad Gift Nadiad, Save Environment,
Sapling plantation Day, Save Fuel/ Energy etc. left a message to the, students and all the
stake holders to take care of the environment, the disabled and the lesser blessed
sections of the society. Active faculty goes to nearby villages and slum areas ,serves
under government Manav Kalyan Yojana to spread awareness among women for
literacy, de-addiction among men. As a result we have even girl students coming from
remote villages of Kheda District.
Events like Competitions of Patriotic Songs , Celebration of Childrens Day in Primary
schools were held to create and spread the national spirit amongst the students, society

and children. The enthusiastic NSS unit of the college camped in a nearby village. It was
a strong message to the whole society as the students devoted their time and energy in
several fruitful activities in the school and in society enhancing educational awareness in
the village.
The institution itself being more quality conscious successfully got itself audited by the
Academic and Administrative Auditing by the Higher Education Department ,
Gandhinagar.
The Head of the Institution is quite regular in attending the Video conference with the
Commissioner of higher Education and the Dean of Commerce faculty too is invited in the
institution to have an open discourse with the faculty members regarding the upcoming
challenges with the new CBCS System. On- line suggestions too, are exchanged with the
respective authorities in Gujarat University regarding the syllabic issues .
2. New academic programmes initiated (UG and PG)
There is a complete change in the scenario of Gujarat University UG and PG syllabi. This is
a welcome note for the students as well as the faculty. From simple lecture system teaching
and learning has become more enjoyable, practical and realistic as there is much more
participation of students in this arena. There is also an extra addition of two more subjects
at PG level. The whole shift at PG and UG levels bring in continuous evaluation of the
students by the distribution of assignments, group discussions, power point presentations,
and attendance and examination reforms.
At UG level too, with the implementation of CBCS system which is quite challenging for the
rural area advanced learning techniques have been followed. Students are encouraged to
present projects in English language . New courses like Personality Development,
Environment , TALLY, Leadership have been introduced to expand the knowledge base and
soft skill to enhance employability.
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction :
The Head of the Commerce Department Prof. B.S.Sayed has been selected as a
senate member in Gujarat Uni., Ahemadabad. His active participation does see
further revolutionary changes at UG level too.
Two members have been selected in the Board of Studies in the Commerce stream.
Dr. V.M.Vanar,the Head of the Institute has been selected as a faculty in the Board
of Accountancy along with Prof. P.B.Mistry ( Head of the Economics Department ).
It is wirth mentioning that Prof. H.G.Vohra , has designed the certificate course of
Insurance and Prof.P.B.Mistry has designed certificate course of Banking.
4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started :
The faculty of the institution is invited to share their valuable knowledge with the
students of different colleges. Our faculty members are invited to the institutions of
different colleges in Kheda, Petlad , Khambat,Pilvai, Anklav etc. to share their
knowledge. Not only that, the faculty renders such service within the institution
itself to clarify and enhance the knowledge and the basic concepts of the subject to
the learners. A whole range of guest series was held in the institution.
Moreover, faculty from this institution was invited by BISAG to deliver live lectures.
As key note speakers, too, the faculty is invited.

5. Examination reforms implemented :


In the newly introduced semester system , the whole examination system has been
changed accordingly to make it more student friendly. Carry Forward System has
been introduced for under graduate scholars for Annual System to smoothen the
process of CBCS.
To equip our learners with the latest trends they are taught as well as they are
encouraged to make Power point Presentations at UG and PG level.
The new CBCS System is quite challenging and to prepare our students for the new
one special training is deferred to them by holding MCQs form.
The faculty does hold class room test (oral or written) to check and sharpen
intellectual and the grasping level of the students.
6. Candidates qualified: NET/SLET/GATE etc.
Many students are pursuing MBA, Inter-C.A., Import Export Diplomas, CPT,
IELTS etc.
7. Initiative towards faculty development programme :
Two faculties Prof. A.J.Pandya and Prof. C.H.Jariwala attended a Capacity
Building Training Program held by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat,
Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
An Orientation lecture was held in the institution by Prof.P.R.Patel to train
the staff members for the use of N-List Program.
Equal attention is paid to polish and hone the quality and potential of the
administrative faculty. Mr. B.G.Nayak Head Clerk attended A two day
Training Program for CBCS awareness at two different places.

Library has been reloaded with new books and journals and the
introduction of the NLIST program has increased its utility.

An active participation in workshops, seminars, conferences is an integral


part of a faculty development program in our college. The faculty attended
seminars and presented 39 research papers during the academic year
20011-12.

Apart from academic awareness each faculty attends and actively


participates in the workshops of different units like CWDC, Cultural
Activities, SCOPE, establishment of DELL , NSS/ NCC etc.

The institution has held 10 seminars and workshops in the benefit of
the students and faculty for the holistic development of the students.
Dr.Vidyasagar of Vidya Mind Development Research Development , an
International Trainer was invited to address the students on
Emerge your Inner Power.
Mr. Sanjay Raval held a seminar on Personality Development
Mr.Ashu Manchanda, a trainer and Counsellor was invited to speak on
Leadership
Mr. Harish Motiyani , the famous Stock Consultant guided the students in
stock investments . He held a special lecture on Derivatives
A Panel Discussion in coordination with WILPF on Way to Global Peaceend of violence against women was held.

An innovative skill developing Calligraphy competition was held in the


institution.

Clay Model Workshop for a week was held by the institution to hone
the skills of students in the college campus .
Soft Toy Making Workshop was held for the benefit of the students.
A Creative Card competition was held in the institution.
A weeks Cooperative Training Program was held successfully by the
NSS wing in cooperation with Kheda District Cooperative Union.

16. Internal resources generated: The institution has registered 63 students in the OAS of
SCOPE introduced by the government of Gujarat. The fees paid by t he students is submitted
to the Government of Gujarat, out of which 25% share is kept by college for smooth
functioning of administrative work. Thus the institution generates internal resources by
introducing SCOPE.

Our faculty members are members of NGOs like WILPF ,apart from that members serve as
counsellors in organisations like Sunni Muslim WAQF Committee, schools, Vaso Handloom
and Weavers Cooperative Society, Madarsa a-Razvia, Santram Temple, Nadiad,
Swaminarayan Temple, benefiting a large section of society.
Under the banner of CWDC Dept. The college has celebrated Give Nadiad and Gift Nadiad
whereby toys, clothes, and sweets were donated to the school children on the occasion of
Diwali .
To spread Awareness among the youth regarding voting rights the college had celebrated
Rashtriya Matdaar Din under the auspices of Election Commission , Gujarat.
To spread awareness regarding Terrorism, a Drama was enacted for the college students by
Police Dept. of Govt.of Gujarat in our campus.
To create awareness among students regarding De -addiction a documentary and a drama
were arranged.
'Charity Day' was celebrated in a unique way by the NSS unit of the college and used for
upliftment of the socially and economically backward class. The students, faculty members

and members of administrative staff donated Rs. 4341/-under the NSS to be distributed in
the slum area of Nadiad.
The NCC cadets of this college rendered their valuable services in maintaining discipline and
order in the social welfare programme organized by the Govt. of Gujarat.
The NSS team in their camp at Dumral distributed free spectacles and to spread awareness
among small school children held different competitions in the school like Hand-Writing
competition, Drawing competition.
To sum up the institution follows the following activities:

compulsory in the college to boost up the nationalistic feelings among the youth.

The institution believes that feedback by the knowledge seekers goes a long way in effective
improvement and development not only of the institution but also of the whole society.
Oral, written feedbacks are discussed during meetings, they are analysed and action is taken
if need arises.
Feedback from Stakeholders:
The institution is quite regular in accepting and implementing suggestions or complaints
from stakeholders. Of late there was a great demand for the construction of a road in the
campus , the introduction of SCOPE, an active Placement Cell etc. which have already been
improvised. The stakeholders quite often meet in person so feedbacks are more in oral form.
For students complaint and suggestion boxes are kept which are opened on regular basis.

Construction of RCC road in college campus has given a complete facelift to the
whole campus.

The latest soft wares, fax modem, internet connectivity has strengthened the
communication network.

A multi-purpose Conference Hall

A DELL lab has been constructed to educate students in different courses.

27. Technology upgradation:

N-LIST- a programme by the MHRD has been installed for the benefit of staff and
students.

Important information and important activities are displayed on the


institutions facebook account too.

An electronic bell has been installed to save labour and time.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers, non-teaching staff and
students:
An Orientation Programme was held for the benefit of the Administrative as well as
academic staff.

Internet accessibility is extended from twelve computers to thirty computers in Computer


lab for students. The students of the college use this facility for online job application, online
interviews, creating resume etc. They also use this facility to prepare PowerPoint
presentations. They are allowed to work on 'TALLY Software' (educational) for its
commercial applications.
The faculty also uses this facility to prepare their Research papers. They also use computers
to prepare Assignments, Question papers, mark sheets for internal exams of the college etc.

30. Activities and Support from the Alumni Association:
The college interacts with the members of alumni association formally and informally
throughout the academic year, Members of alumni association provide valuable information
about various competitive exams like -UPSC, GPSC, BANK, LIC etc. They also keep the
students abreast of emerging trends in professional courses like - CA, CS, ICWA, MBA etc.
Computer knowledge is provided by alumni at very moderate rates to students. They offer
help to the faculty, too, whenever required.
Alumni members in the banks, government departments, education fields and other sectors
are quite eager to help the students.
Articles by alumnis in the college magazine have become a regular feature.
31. Activities and Support from the Parent-Teacher Association
The parents are invited to the college every year. The faculty members give information
regarding various co-curricular, extra curricular activities and welfare scheme for the
students. The college also accepts and implements constructive suggestions offered by
Parents Association for the betterment of quality of teaching and learning.

To make the academic activities more clear and transparent especial power point
presentation encompassing the entire activities of each faculty, department and the
institutions progress, is shown in the gathering of the association.
32. Health services:

smoking are sermonised by the authorities which has proved very successful.

Keeping semi- urban atmosphere in mind, lectures on rationalism were conducted to


improve the mental horizon of the students.
33. Performance in sports activities:
Regular sports activity is a prominent feature of our college. The students are motivated to
participate in indoor and outdoor games organized by other colleges in the University and a
number of institutions connected with sports and games.
South Zone Champion ship in Cricket held by Gujarat Uni, Ahemdabad.
The students participated in various sport events organized by the Gujarat University. 1
student selected in the BCCIs under 19 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, Pune.
1 student selected in the Gujarat University Cricket Team.
1 disabled girl student awarded Rs. 25,000/-in Maha Khel Kumbh in the Physically
Challenged Race Competition.

In the Annual Sports Day both girls and boys participated enthusiastically in several athletics
and sports competition.
34. Incentives to outstanding sportspersons:
Cash prizes, Track-suits, Medals, trophies and merit certificates were awarded as incentives
to outstanding sportspersons.
During their rehearsals too special energy drinks are provided to them.

Inter Zone Youth Festival, J.G.College of Nursing, Ahemdabad: The students made the
institution proud by becoming Second Winners In Collage
In the State Youth Board, Balkan ji Bari, Nadiad- Students were declared Winners in One Act
Play.
In Lalit Kala Academy, Mehndi Competition-I and ii Winner were from the institution.
NCC Achievements:
The NCC cadets remained active throughout the year. The cadets as well as the faculty
enthusiastically participated in all the camps, programs and rallies arranged held at several
different places.

At Vaso in CATC-XIV Camp 14 students took training.

At Palana CATC Camp held a Debate Competition, a cadet Pathan Javed Khan stood
first in it., and was declared the Best Cadet, Best Judging Distance and the institution
bagged the Best Discipline Award.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counselling unit:

Each faculty serves as class guardian of a particular class. At present 10 teachers actively
function as class guardians. Counselling for the core subjects is provided by the senior
faculty members of the college. Counselling is also provided by the in-charge teachers for
sports and games, co-curricular and extra curricular activities, Alumni Association and
CWDC.
The students under the direct guidance of concerned teachers participate in seminars,
workshop and motivational programmes. They are also encouraged to present research
papers in student oriented seminars
37. Placement services provided to students:
The ACTIVE placement cell of the college collects information regarding job opportunities for
the students of commerce and it is displayed on the notice board for wider circulation.
Teachers provided help to the students in sending applications for jobs on line . Appearing
for interviews is an art . The faculty assists the students in preparing themselves for
interviews. Several institutions and bodies are invited to hold workshops, seminars , lectures
whereby students are trained in various fields .
38. Development programmes for non-teaching staff:
1The institution sends Staff members both academic and administrative to receive training
held by the Knowledge Consortium of Gujarat, Gandhinagar. Where necessary it arranges
lectures to make the staff aware of the latest techniques. Even for website updating a
faculty takes training .
39. Healthy practices of the inistitution:

An up rise in the student centric activities. This year it was expanded to sem-I level
too. Sustained Exemplary student participation in classroom activities and social
work, too.

Exam .MCQs prepared for practice as well as examination.

Sustained Extraordinary Team Spirit enhancing activities in the form academic and
social extension plans at all levels academic staff, administrative staff and learner

Arrangement of Lecture series for the benefit of students and faculty members.

Students are trained to take a lens coverage of all events and compile them in the
computer.

Assignment writing, power-point presentations, participation of students in several


academic activities in and around Nadiad.

Law College students benefited from our infrastructure. The institution believes in
sharing of college facilities with its sister concerns.

Disabled students were taken especial care during lectures, admissions,


examinations and library facilities.

The Student Union became more effective and each class representative became a
leader in maintaining the discipline of the institution.

Parents are compulsorily called to give explanation regarding their childs
irregularity.

Internet facility is provided free to the students.

A personal library where interested students get books and magazines( without any
binding) to improve their English Language .

Students adept in multi-tasking and those who are involved in multifarious activities
are felicitated on Yuva Din.
