20.1 Each primary a~ secondary contain ment tank, before painting, sha.U be tested by the manufacturer and
proved tight against leakage using the foflo\ving method:
a) s ;ngle Wall Tank
1} Applying internal air pressure and using soapsuds. linseed oil, or equivalent material for
the defection ol leaks. The lesl pressure is to be a gauge pressure of 3 - 5 pSi (20.7 -
34.5 kPa); or
2} Completely filling tho taok wfth watnr and applying an addltior\al gauge pressure of 5 psi
(34.5 kPa} pressute while the tank is plaoed in the posiUon in which it shall be mslafled and
suds, linseed oil or equivalent material for detection of leaks. The test pressure is not to be
less than a gauge pressure o'l 3 psi (20.7 kPa) nor more than 5psi (34.5kPa).
2) Upon completion of the finjshed tank, the primary tank sha)) again be pressurized to a
gauge pressure of 5 psi (34.5 kPa) and held for 1 hour to check for leakage. A continuous
drop in pressure is considered evidenoe of leakage.
3) While main taming a gauge pressure of 5 psi (34.5 kPa) on lhe primary tank, the spaoe
bounded by the primary and soc:ondary tank shall be p1ossurizcd to a gauge pressure of 5 psi
(34.5 kPa). The seoondary tank shall be checked for leakage by applying a soap suds
sorutlon.
20.2 When leaks are noted during the lest, the tank shalt be made tight by wekflng and retested. Delecls in
we~ds shall be repaired by chipping or melting out from one or both sides of the joint, as required, and
rewekiing.
20.3 Each compartment ol comparlmerlt lanks shall be separately tested for leakage.

21 .5 All markings shall be legible an<f permannnt as afforded by a s1ampcd or printed metal nameplate or
label, by a decalcomania lransler, by permanent ink applied by stencil, by a pressure-sensitive label or label
secured with oamen1 of adhesive, or the equivalent. The label or nameplate shall be permanenUy secured lo
1he oute.r surface of the coating. jacket or composite system.
2 1.6 A pressure-sensitive label or a labef secured by cement or adhesive shall comply with the applicable
requirements for "OuldOOf" use labels in the Standard for Mark1ng and Labeling Systems, UL 969.
