Imaging
Description: This is an image I took on my own of the Rexburg Idaho
temple. I used the rule of thirds with the trees and the steeple. The
design in the corner is an added touch based on the beliefs of the LDS
faith. I also used color swatches along some of the circles to show what
colors were used.
Date: February 7th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: Photoshop, Canon Powershot
Objective: Lean basic photography skills, learn NDE in Photoshop (non
destructive editing), enhance high quality photos with Photoshop
Process: I took these pictures at the Rexburg LDS temple and I uploaded
them to edit in Photoshop. I used Photoshop to brighten the photo and
add some contrast. I used Photoshop to make the circles in the design
and arranged them around the main circle. I turned down the opacity so
that the circles wouldnt take up all the attention.

Brochure
Description: This is a brochure for Costa Rica. It features some of the
attractions in the country and some other interesting info to potential
travelers and explorers.
Date: March 28th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
Objective: Make a duplex brochure of a topic of my choice. Use a text
wrap. Use paragraph styling for consistent text throughout brochure.
Use an offset fold in design and printing. Practice precise and clean
folding of final print
Process: I brainstormed ideas and chose Costa Rica. I know a bit about
the country and found pictures online to go with it. I organized the
pictures in InDesign so the text and photos would alternate. I used the
shape tool to make the accents under each paragraph. I used the shape
tool to make the color blocks that go on the front of the page when the
brochure is folded. I made the flower logo in Illustrator and transferred
it to the brochure to go on the front and back of the brochure. I used
paragraph styling to make sure my type would look uniform throughout
the brochure and so it made it easier to have consistency. I printed on
11x18 gloss 110 lb paper and trimmed the edges. I got a crisp fold my
scoring the page with a pen and gently folding over.

card for my design on the page. I used an online validator to find errors
and I launched the project in Firefox to make sure it worked properly.

Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: InDesign, Scanner

Learn to organize information and elements in InDesign. Learn to
emphasize correct and relevant information. Use a color scheme and
incorporate consistent design principles
Process: I scanned a photo from Rookie Yearbook 2 and made that the
top photo in the poster. I cropped it so it would fit and adjusted some
colors. I used two different fonts for contrast. I used a serif font and
then a sans serif for the event information. I used the shape tool to
make the color blocks and to add contrast and some fun colors that go
with the color scheme. I turned down the opacity so they werent too
distracting.

Flier
Description: This is a flier made for the annual Graduate Leadership
conference by Vouant Communications.
Date: January 24th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: InDesign
Objective: Create a flier in black and white to advertise for the Graduate
Leadership Conference. Use alignment and organizational principles to
create a complete design.
Process: I sketched out my ideas and picked my favorite. I used
InDesign to organize the photo and all the text. I added in elements
to add contrast, such as the box behind the text and the accent lines.
I turned down the opacity on the box so it didnt distract too much.
I wanted to keep it simple so there wasnt to much going on. I right
aligned everything because the people in the photo are facing in to the
page so they went on the left.

Logos
Description: These are logos I re-designed for a cake shop that my
friend at home owns. I thought it would be a cute subject to make a
logo for. The three show the evolution of my design skill as it developed
right before my eyes. The first one is a little busy and childish and the
next ones develop and are a lot better. I wanted the logo to be fun yet
still professional so the last one is the best one.
Date: February 20th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: Illustrator
Objective: Create three unique and professional logos for a company.
Use Illustrator to create the logo. Use the Pen tool to create shapes and
logos. Split channels and delete/manipulate pieces of shapes
Process: I used Illustrator to create the basic shapes of these logos.
A square for the cake logo, a circle for the bottom logo, a box an
lines for the second logo. I used the shape tool to make all the
little cake sprinkles and the candles also. The flames were made by
using a gradient color fill. I made the flower with the shape tool and
manipulated the edges to make them rounded and look like a flower.

Letterhead
Description: This is a letterhead I incorporated with my logo and my
personal skills. It is a letterhead that can be used for professional
exchanges and has my personal information on it.
Date: February 28th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: InDesign, Illustrator
Objective: Create a unique and professional letterhead that a business/
individual can use. Convey message in a simple professional manner.
Process: I created a logo in Illustrator, the light bulb, and put that in the
corner of the page and expanded it, turning down the opacity, to make
the watermark. I used the shape tool in Illustrator to make the purple
accent at the top of the page. I thought the page was a little blank so I
put the tag line at the bottom of the page and put an accent line at the
bottom of the page as well. I typed up my information and placed that
in the corner as well.

Business Card
Description: These are designs for a two sided business card. I made
them tailored to me so I could start brainstorming ideas of how I would
like to present myself to the world in a business card.
Date: February 28th, 2015
Course/Instructor: Visual Media 130, Ben Pingel
Program/Tools: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator
Objective: Create a legible and creative design for a business card.
Create a unique simple logo. Use all three platforms together effectively
Process: I created my logo first in Illustrator. I used the Pen tool to draw
out the logo. I separated the lines in the logo so I could color the inside
of the logo whichever color I wanted. I made a light bulb because thats
an iconic image for ideas and I want to be known as creative. I wanted
the design to be minimalist and still dramatic, so I used mostly grey and
black to create the background and the color blocks. I used purple as
the accent color and copied the light bulb logo as purple to put on the
other side.

Montage
Description: This project is a montage of photos and text relating back
to a spiritual matter. It uses a few photos to relate back to the quote

to fade the images out and organize them.

Type Montage
Description: This is a type montage, a repetition of words. They all relate
back to longboarding, which is the image in the center of the page.
Date: November 2013
Course/Instructor: Graphic Design, Sarah Nichols
Program/Tools: Photoshop
Objective: Create a montage about something I admire/a hobby/
interest. Use type to create an image, White out a normal image.
Practice organizing type in a pleasing manner
Process: I used Photoshop to type up all the adjectives and phrases
that went along with longboarding, my chosen topic. I organized them
so that they didnt touch each other and that they were all in different
spots and different positions. I kept the words all symmetrical so it still
looked organized. I changed all the colors of the text too, bright colors
go with the excitement of riding a longboard. I found an image on
the web of a longboard and filled the image in white so that it could
contrast the words on the page. The colors of the text would outline the
picture.

picture online that had lots of blue and green and that went well with
the title. I typed up some headlines that were placed on the right side. I
found a bar code online and inserted that too. I made the bottom black
strip to call attention the online content too.
