CEMTEC EPOQUA II
TWO COMPONENT WATER
BASED EPOXY
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
CEMTEC EPOQUA II is a two component, water
based epoxy coating available in either high gloss
or satin sheens. The epoxy resin is cured with an
acrylic curative to form a smooth, tough, tile like
coating which exhibits outstanding chemical stain
and abrasion resistant properties. CEMTEC
EPOQUA II offers the durability and stain
resistance which in the past has only been
available with two component solvent based epoxy
finishes.
CEMTEC EPOQUA II has excellent resistance to
high moisture and humidity. This unique water
reducible, low odour epoxy coating contains no
mercurial compounds and effectively resists
mildew and many strains of fungus growth.
CEMTECEPOQUA II is formulated to meet all
existing Federal and States air pollution control
methods.
BASIC USES
CEMTEC EPOQUA II was specifically developed
for wall or floor surfaces which are subjected to
repeated scrubbing and where long term stain
resistance is of prime importance. CEMTEC
EPOQUA II has excellent resistance to many
chemicals, oil and other substances. Refer to
paragraph entitled Stain Resistance for a list of
those materials which have been tested.
CEMTEC EPOQUA II can be applied to dry wall,
plaster, and to surfaces which have been
previously coated. The bond strength of CEMTEC
EPOQUA II to these substrates is excellent. This
abrasion resistant coating is recommended for use
in schools, hospitals, athletic facilities, commercial
kitchens, public restrooms and in wet areas such
as showers, locker rooms, dairies, food processing
plants, and other high humidity areas. It is also
an excellent industrial maintenance coating for use
on equipment, railings, machinery etc. CEMTEC
EPOQUA II is authorised by the USDA for use in
Federally Inspected meat and poultry processing
plants.
CEMTEC EPOQUA II Clear can also be reduced
100% with water for use over concrete floors as a
sealer or primer under numerous topcoats.
COLOURS
CEMTEC EPOQUA II is available in standard
White and Clear.

PERFORMANCE & ADVANTAGES

Abrasion Resistance
CEMTEC EPOQUA II has high resistance to
abrasion when compared to enamels or other types
of epoxy finishes. A loss of only 80 to90 milligrams
resulted when tested on a Taber Abraser, using
CS-17 abrasive wheels with 1000 gm weights at
1000 revolutions. Tested in accordance with ASTM
D 4060.
Scrub Resistance
Gardener Straight-line Washability and Abrasion
Machine - Test Machine imparts a back and forth
motion to a holder containing a bristle brush and
mild soap solution that slides on the test panel.
After 2,000 strokes on panels coated with
CEMTEC EPOQUA II there was no deleterious
effect on the coating. Tested in accordance with
Federal Test Method Standard No. 141 A, method
6142.
Mildew Resistance
CEMTEC EPOQUA II has zero rating, no growth
observed when tested for resistance to the
following fungi : Aspergillus niger, Penicillium
funiculosum, Chaetomium globosum, Trichoderma
sp and Pullularia pullulans, tested in accordance
with ASTM G 21.
Conformance to Environmental Pollution
Standards
CEMTEC EPOQUA II is formulated to meet all
existing Federal and State air pollution control
standards. It is water reducible, exhibiting very low
odour. There are no toxic solvents released as
the coating cures, which is a common problem for
interior use of solvent based epoxy finishes.
Resistance to High Humidity
CEMTEC EPOQUA II showed no signs or blistering
or softening on exposure to 100% humidity in the
QCT condensation cabinet after 48 hours, when
cured for 24 hours at 75 Deg.F. (24 Deg.C.), 50%
RH tested in accordance with ASTM D 2247.
Stain Resistance
The following materials had no effect on CEMTEC
EPOQUA II. Test panels were first scrubbed for
2000 strokes on a Gardner Straight-line
Washability and Abrasion Machine using a mild
soap solution and bristle brush. Panels were dried
and staining materials applied and allowed to set
for 24 hours before removal. All of the following
materials were removed with water rinsing. No
staining or other adverse affects, such as
discoloration, softening or blistering of the coating
were observed:

Bond Strength
CEMTEC EPOQUA II exhibits greater adhesive
strength than the cohesive strength of the following
substrates. Test was conducted using a Gardner
Adhesion Tester which measures the bond strength
in pounds per square inch and determines whether
the failure is in adhesive strength of the coating or
cohesive strength of the backing material.
Asbestos cement Board failed at 125 psi (.86 MPa).
Plywood failed at 250 psi ( 1.72 MPa). Drywall and
concrete failed at less than 50 psi (.34 MPa). With
all the materials tested, CEMTEC EPOQUA II
could not be separated from the substrates.

APPLICATION
CEMTEC EPOQUA II may be applied by brush, roller
or airless spray. Airless spray is the preferred method
of application.
Any airless spray equipment capable of 2,000 psi
(13,780 kPa) and 1 gallon per minute (3.8l/minute)
delivery can be used for applying CEMTEC EPOQUA
II. A reversible self-cleaning spray tip with orifice size
of .015 to .019 (.38 to .48 mm) and minimum 40
degree fan angle is recommended.
Before spraying, flush equipment with a mixture of
water and lacquer thinner or water and Methyl Ethyl
Ketone (MEK) to prevent contamination.
For spray application, apply one ( 1 ) coat at a
minimum coverage rate of 150 to 200 sq.ft. per gallon
g(3.7 to 4.9m2 /l.) This coverage will result in a total of
2.8 to 3.7 dry mils (71 to 94 dry microns).
For brush or roller application and for areas which
are subjected to hard use or frequent wash down,
apply two ( 2 ) separate coats at a minimum coverage
rate of 200 to 250 sq.ft. per gallon (4.9 to 6.1m2/l).
This total coverage rate will result in 4.5 to 5.6 dry
mils ( 114 to 142 microns). Allow a minimum of 24
hours drying time between coats.
Before painting, wet the brush or roller with clean

water, then shake or sqeeze out the excess water.

Do not roll or brush out excessively.
Two ( 2 ) separate coats should be sprayed,
brushed or roller applied to new or bare drywall,
plaster, wood, concrete or masonry surfaces when
the first coat is used as a primer. CEMTEC
EPOQUA II is its own best primer on these
substrates because it retains the chemical and
water resistant properties of the entire coating
system.
Brush or roller are easily cleaned with soapy water.
Clean equipment with water and final flush with a
mixture of water and Lacquer Thinner or water and
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK).

CEMTEC EQPOAUA II makes an effective floor

finish, with or without non-skid aggregate, on
any horizontal application requiring a durable,
non-toxic coloured topping. Surfaces must be
clean and dry, and free of any oil, grease, dirt
and other contaminants. Wash thoroughly with
or equivalent cleaner and rinse thoroughly.
Smooth trowelled concrete floors or other dense
surfaces must first be either sandblasted or acid
etched to open the surface and allow for proper
adhesion.
Reduce the first coat of CEMTEC EPOQUA II 50%
with water to allow maximum penetration. Apply
the reduced material by brush, roller or spray at
approximately 250 sq.ft. per gallon. After allowing
to dry, apply two full strength coats at 200 to 250
sq.ft. per gallon per coat. For applications requiring
a non-skid finish, apply two coats of CEMTEC
EPOQUA II textured which incorporates a fine,
rounded silica for slip resistance and east in
cleanability. Thoroughly mix to disperse the sand
evenly throughout the container prior to rolling the
material onto the floor. For high use areas or for
added protection over the colour coats, a topcoat

of CEMTEC EPOQUA II clear gloss or satin may

be applied at approx. 300 sq.ft. per gallon.
LIMITATIONS AND PRECAUTIONS
CEMTEC EPOQUA II should not be applied over
wet surfaces or applied under high humidity
conditions. CEMTEC EPOQUA II must be fully
cured before being subjected to high humidity or
moisture conditions. Full cure for maximum
abrasion, chemical and moisture resistance will
usually develop with 7 days.
CEMTEC EPOQUA II Part A and Part B will both
freeze at temperatures below 32 Deg.F. (0 Deg.C.).
Do not ship or store unless protection from freezing
is available.
Do not apply CEMTEC EPOQUA II at
temperatures below 55 Deg.F. (13 Deg.C.).
CEMTEC EPOQUA II requires complete
evaporation of water to cure. Cool temperatures
and high humidity retard cure.
Use only in a well ventilated area. Avoid breathing
of vapour or spray mist. During spray operations,
approved (MSHA / NIOSH) chemical cartridge
respirator should be worn. Avoid contact with eyes
and skin.
