Date: 15th of October 2013 Grade/Level: 9th grade F, G/ Intermediate Textbook: English my love Time: 50 minutes Lesson title: Around London Skills involved: reading, speaking, listening, writing; SUB- COMPETENCES: - improving pronunciation; - developing fast silent reading and scanning skills; - matching the pictures with the text; - using the new words in sentences of their own. - transferring information; - listening carefully to perform a structured work task; - improving communicative skills, pair work and group work; - scanning the text for specific information; - developing writing skills; VISUAL AND AUDIO AIDS: Textbook, pictures: London (161 colour illustrations; map of central London), worksheets, laptop , video, blackboard, chalk, notebooks and pencils; ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Ss may block or get shy in front of the teacher or they may have difficulties in finishing the task in time; STUDENT GROUPINGS: individual, pair and goup work; INTERACTION: T-SS; SS-T; S-S; G-W; I-W; STAGES OF THE LESSON ACTIVITIES: Warm up: greeting; marking the absentees; checking homework if necessary; discussing about the cities from Romania or abroad they have visited; Teacher asks the following question: Can you guess what we are going to talk about today? Aim: - to check the ss homework; -to relax the atmosphere; -to make predictions about the topic of the lesson; Interaction: T-SS; SS-T; Time: 5 minutes Activity 1: Lead- in: Aim: -to introduce the students into the atmosphere of the lesson; -to raise the ss interest in the topic of the lesson;

-to motivate ss to interact and exchange ideas and information; -to activate their previous knowledge about London; Interaction: T-SS; SS-T; Time: 3 minutes Procedure: T shows the SS some pictures of important buildings in London and writes their names on the blackboard: The British Museum, The Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus Westminster AbbeyThe T announces the title of the lesson and writes it on the blackboard. Activity 2: Listening Aim: - to watch and listen to the video in order to perform the task the teacher has set; Interaction: T-SS; SS-T; SS-SS; IW; PW; GW; Time: 5 minutes Procedure: The T gives the SS worksheet no. 1 explains the task ( SS get the chance to see the questions first in order to be able to listen for specific information) and asks them to watch and listen carefully the video about London so that they can solve the task on the worksheet; SS listen to the video, discuss and decide the correct answer and solve the task in groups of four;

Aim: to see if they have paid attention to the recently presented materials; Interaction: T-SS; SS-SS; PW; Time: 10 minutes Procedure: Students are asked to solve exercise I.1 on page 8. Activity 4: Reading to extract specific information; Aim: -to give students practice in speaking; - to check comprehension - improving pronunciation; - developing fast silent reading and scanning skills; -developing scanning skills; - improving pronunciation; - developing fast silent reading and scanning skills; Interaction: GW; T-SS; SS-SS; Time: 10 minutes Procedure: SS are asked to solve ex. 2 on page 10 working in groups of four.
