Course objectives
Participants will know the basics,
functions and mechanisms of MPLS, QoS
and VPN. They will be able to assess the
positioning and understand the structure
and functions of these concepts. On this
basis, they will be able to understand the
operation and configuration of MPLS and
VPN systems technology.

Target group
Network administrators, network
planners, product managers and
developers who require a well-founded
basic knowledge of MPLS, VPN and
QoS.

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of data communications
and telecommunications. Participants
should also have a basic knowledge of
TCP/IP to aid understanding.

Data/IP Networks

Packet switching is the future of

networks. Wherever provider networks
are being realized, they are spreading
packet-switched networks over the
conventional transport networks (PDH,
SDH, SONET etc.). The demand for
multimedia capability, quality of service
and flexibility in network structures is
growing at the same time, and ignores
the fact that Internet technology was
never originally intended for transmitting
voice or video signals. The advantages
of Internet technology, such as flexibility
and dynamic change, together with a
large number of new developments
have resulted in improved technology
and allow its deployment in all network
and service layers.
Multi-protocol label switching (MPLS),
virtual private networks (VPN), and
quality of service (QoS) are part of these
important developments and make it
possible to build on-demand, flexible,
private and multimedia networks on the
basis of existing IP infrastructures.
But, what is MPLS actually, and what is
a VPN? What are the mechanisms and
concepts behind them? And how should
the solutions be viewed? These and
other questions will be answered by the
information imparted through the MPLS
& VPN Fundamentals and Technology
seminar.
The seminar gives information on the
necessary foundations, concepts, and
relationships, as well as the technical
details about MPLS, VPN and QoS.
