Music maestro Hariharan celebrates his 60 th birthday on Friday, 3 April:


Hariharan (born 1955) is an Indian playback singer who has sung for Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi,
Kannada, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Telugu films.The versatile legend has gifted amazing hit

songs to the Indian film industry as well.He is an established ghazal singer and one of
the pioneers of Indian fusion music. Hariharan, associating with Lesle Lewis, formed Colonial
Cousins, a two-member band. They have cut many private music albums and also scored music
for few feature films in Tamil cinema and Bollywood cinema.

"Bombay" film song "Tu Hi Re" by Hariharan is one of the best compositions by AR
Rahman.
Popular song 'Chappa Chappa' from the film, "Maachis", was sung by Hariharan and
Suresh Wadkar.
Chanda Re Chanda Re' song from Prabhu Dheva and Kajol starrer "Sapney" was also
sung by Hariharan and composed by AR Rahman.
Hariharan and Kavita Krishnamurthy sang a beautiful track, "Jhoka Hawa Ka", from
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Salman Khan-Ajay Devgn starrer "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Shah Rukh Khan-Karisma Kapoor-Madhuri Dixit starrer "Dil To Pagal Hai" film's "Ek Duje
Ke Vaaste" song was sung by Hariharan.
AR Rahman composed the song, "Nahi Samne", in "Taal" and was sung by Hariharan
and Sukhwinder Singh. The film starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshay Khanna, Anil Kapoor in
lead roles.
'Yaadein' song is from Hrithik Roshan-Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer "Yaadein." The title
song was sung by Hariharan, Sunishi Chauhan and Mahalaxmi Iyer.
He is a two-time National Award winner and was also conferred with the Padma Shri in 2004.
He's also performed exclusive concert for the Ex-Prime Minister at Kumaragam in 2001 and at Goa in
2002. He rendered the invocation song at Parliament at the 26th Jan 2000 function being the centenary of
the Independence.Hariharan holds privilege of inaugurating Common Wealth Games with his composition
and rendition of "Swaghatham Song" and also performed at the Qutub festival and the sports village.

Also he performed at the Rashtriya Bhawan for the H'ble Indian President Smt. Prathibhathai Patil in the
year 2010.
In addition, he cut several successful ghazal albums, writing most of the scores himself. One of
Hariharan's first ghazal albums was "Abshaar-e-Ghazal" with Asha Bhonsle, which went gold in sales.
Another outstanding ghazal album was Hazir with Ustad Zakir Hussain. "Gulfam", released in 1993 won
him the Diva Award for the Best Album of the year.
