Objectives

Learn how to use Photoshop layers

Apply appropriate typography

Process

I work at a soda shop where we sell milkshakes and I knew

that I wanted to take a photo of one of our milkshakes for
this project. I used natural lighting to take this photo using a
digital camera. I then increased the brightness of the photo
to bring out the colors. Since the milkshake is in a vintage
glass with a sort of retro feel, I wanted to incorporate that
into the rest of my design for this poster. I made adjustments
to the milkshake in Photoshop and using the layers feature, I
gave the background a wrinkled paper look. Using the shapes
tool, I created different shapes to create a badge and then
inserted text inside of it.

Objectives

Find, scan, and import a high quality image

Create a full-bleed design
Use text boxes for layout in Word
Instert and edit images in Word

Process

I scanned the image of the woman and her child from a

magazine. Knowing that I would be using this image for my
event ad, I sketched out multiple ideas and then chose what
I thought was my best sketch to start designing the ad. I
created this event ad using Microsoft Word. I was most
excited about learning to use the eye dropper tool to grab the
vibrant colors in her hair and create that same color in the
shapes that I created that are behind the body of my text.
The programs that I used were and Epson Scanner, Microsoft
Word, and a PDF converter.

Objectives

Learn how to manage Photoshop layers

Learn how to blend images together smoothly, using masks
Use filters
Apply appropriate photography

Process

I searched online to find high quality images of Christ, the

clouds, and the texture image. I opened up a new document
in Photoshop and inserted the picture of the clouds. I then
selected the picture of Christ, then added a mask. With a
soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard lines so that Christ
blended with the image of the clouds. I added a textured
image to the overall montage. I chose a quote and using two
contrasting fonts, I created an appealing type.

Adobe InDesign

Objectives

Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography

Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign
document to keep links intact

Process

I first sketched out different layout ideas to create this flier.

I considered my audience and the message that I wanted to
convey through this flier. I then used my best sketch as a
guide to create the flier in InDesign. I was given the image,
logo, and information for the flier and I created my design
around it. With the process of contrast, alignment, fonts,
and creativity, I produced this flier.

Adobe Illustrator

Objectives

Create a variety of logos to fit a company

Use the basic tools of Illustrator

Process

This was the first time that I had ever used Illustrator, so this
project was a little bit of a challenge for me. I had sketched
out ideas that I wanted to use for my logo, but I had a difficult
time trying to create what I really wanted too in Illustrator.
I decided to go with more simple designs for my logos. In
the first logo, I used the spiral tool to create a shape that
resembled a lollipop. For the second logo and third, I used
the pen tool to create a wrapped candy. On the second logo, I
extended the descender on the number 4.

Objectives

Create a new logo to fit a company

Design consistent layouts for business card and letterhead
Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign

Process

I created this logo in Illustrator. I created the circular

shape with three different shapes using the ellipse tool by
overlapping circles. I created the runner using the pen tool.
Once the logo was created, I placed my logo into an InDesign
Document.
I used the rectangle tool to create a business card shape.
On the back of the business card, I placed my logo inside of
the shape and made the background of the business card a
dark grey to give it contrast. On the front of the business
card, I created the text in the text box and made sure that
everything was aligned and proportional. I took the runner
and text out of the logo design in Illustrator and was left with
the circular shape of the logo which I placed in the upper
right hand of the business card.

Objectives

Create a new logo to fit a company

Design consistent layouts for business card and letterhead
Use the basic tools of Illustrator and InDesign

Process

For the Letterhead, I kept the logo the about the same size as
the logo on the business card. Using the same text format as
was on the business card, I placed the contact information in
the upper right hand corner. I then used the edited logo with
just the circular shape and lowered the opacity and made it
bigger to put in the bottom left hand of the letterhead.

Objectives

Size and optimize a logo as a .png for a web page

Write content to describe the process of creating my logo and
how it appeals to a target audience
Design a web page using HTML to display a logo and content
Aquire a working knowledge of HTML and basic
understanding of CSS
Identify hex colors for web design
Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file

Process

I created this web page using TextWrangler. This was my

first experience using this program and it was a challenging
but also exciting program to learn. It was also my first
time learning HTML/CSS coding. It was fun to try different
things with my webpage and then continue looking at my
webpage to see what differences were made to the webpage
when I would edit the HTML or CSS documents linked to my
webpage.
After I had written out the text and added a logo, I decided it
was time to add some color and fun things to my webpage. I
made a CSS document to my HTML so that I could make this
possible. I found the colors on my webpage by opening my
logo in an Illustrator document and taking them directly from
my logo so that my webpage would perfectly match my logo.
