SIDE RAIL

Rail Height: Nominal overall height of the tray side rails.

Load Depth: Nominal interior depth of the cable tray
LOAD
RAIL
DEPTH
that is available for fill. The nominal height and depth are HEIGHT
defined by NEMA Std. VE1 to be within 3/8" of the actual
exact dimension.
Tray System Number: Identifies a specific PW cable tray design including
the material, type, rail height, style, bottom, and NEMA Load Class. The
System Number is used in the catalog numbering system for straight
sections, fittings, and accessories. Refer to the catalog pages shown in the
chart for detailed information on each cable tray system.
Tray Types: The ladder, ventilated/trough, and corrugated bottom cable tray
systems shown in this chart are standard PW designs, in accordance with
NEMA Std. VE1 guidelines. See pages 6-7 for construction details on
standard and alternate PW cable tray designs.

NEMA Class: Load/Span rating for the load carrying

capability of the tray system, based on a 1.5 safety

Safe Load: Allowable cable load in lbs per linear foot uniformly
distributed, based on simple beam type supports with a safety factor
of 1.5, per NEMA Std. VE1. Safe load data is based on the
performance of the tray side rails only. For heavy loads on short
spans, it is possible that the tray bottom capabilities will be less than
values shown for the tray side rails. Safe loads for tray rungs and
bottoms are shown on pages 137 - 140.
To convert safe load data to reflect a safety factor of 2.0, multiply the
load shown by 0.75.
Metric Units: To convert pounds per foot to kilograms per meter
multiply by 1.488. To convert feet to meters multiply by 0.305.

mid-span cable tray deflection information.
Tray Lengths: Standard tray lengths are 12' and 24'. 10', 20
and custom tray lengths are available. Contact PW for current
lead times on non-standard lengths.
Note: Straight tray lengths should be equal to or greater than the
cable tray support spacing when installed, per NEMA Standards.
Heavy Duty Trays: The availability of NEMA Class 20C+ trays
may be limited, and may require greater lead times. Contact PW
for current availability of all heavy duty tray systems.

SIDE RAIL

Rail Height: Nominal overall height of the tray side rails.

LOAD
Load Depth: Nominal interior depth of the cable tray RAIL
DEPTH
that is available for fill. The nominal height and depth is HEIGHT
BOTTOM
defined by NEMA Std. VE1 as being within 3/8" of the
actual exact dimension.
Tray System Number: Identifies a specific PW cable tray design including
the material, type, rail height, style, bottom and NEMA Load Class. The
System Number is used in the catalog numbering system for straight
sections, fittings and accessories. See page 10 for more information on the
catalog numbering system.

Tray Types: The ladder, ventilated/trough and solid bottom type cable tray
systems shown in this chart are standard PW designs that are in accordance
with NEMA Std. VE1 guidelines. See pages 6-7 for construction details on
standard and alternate PW cable tray designs.

Safe Load: Allowable cable load in lbs. per linear foot uniformly
distributed, based on simple beam type supports with a safety factor of 1.5,
per NEMA Std. VE1. Safe load data is based on the performance of the tray
side rails only. For heavy loads on short spans, it is possible that the tray
bottom capabilities will be less than the values shown for the tray side rails.
Contact PW for information on bottom limitations for stainless steel trays.
To convert safe load data to reflect a safety factor of 2.0, multiply the load
shown by 0.75.
Metric Units: To convert pounds per foot to kilograms per meter multiply
by 1.488. To convert feet to meters multiply by 0.305.

64

NEMA Class: Load/Span rating for the load carrying

capability of the tray system, based on a 1.5 safety
factor and tested per NEMA Std. VE1. See the safe
load data chart on the following page to compare
tray performance across various support spans.

Tray Lengths: Standard tray lengths are 12' and 24'. 10', 20'
and custom tray lengths are available. Contact PW for current
lead times on non-standard lengths.
Note: Straight tray lengths should be equal to or greater than the
cable tray support spacing when installed, per NEMA Standards.
