3G Activation

To activate 3G service on your Prepaid SIM, please dial *443*3# or send SUB
on 7003, without any charges. Postpaid subscribers can dial *446# and select
3G package for activation.
To enable 3G, select any of the following in the Network Settings or Mobile
Networks on 3G supported handsets:
GSM/WCDMA (auto) mode 2G + 3G mode GSM / UMTS mode Dual Mode
Once this is done and the customer enters a 3G coverage area, the symbol
next to the network signals will change to any of the following:

Terms and conditions:

3G bundles are non-recursive and pulse size is 64 KB. 3G bundles can

be subscribed and consumed in both 2G and 3G networks. 3G bundles can
be consumed at 3G speed within 3G network and at best possible speed
within 2G network.

3G and video calling services will work on existing SIM card. You will
require a 3G enabled handset and be within a 3G coverage area to enjoy
Mobilink 3G services.

Actual Internet speed will depend on multiple factors like device, web
pages accessed, time of day, number of simultaneous users, distance from
3G site etc.

Tax is not applicable on mobile internet usage and subscription

charges.

Offered 3G data bundles will not auto-subscribe. Bundles need to be

subscribed again upon expiry.

Base rate is a default rate. This means that if you are not subscribed to
any bundle, you will be charged according to base rate i.e. PKR 18/ MB at 2G
speed even if subscriber is connected to a 3G network. Charging pulse will
be 64 KB.

Video call will be activated by default along with 3G services. The

billing pulse for Video Calling is 30 seconds. Currently only on-net Video
Calling is available.

Video Calling is only possible in 3G network and will require a handset

capable of making a video call.

Introduction to 3G

What is 3G?

3G is state of the art mobile technology which gives you an enhanced

internet experience on your mobile device. The most significant benefit is
high speed access to video content along with generally faster mobile
internet access. Some of services and applications which could be benefited
from 3G are:

Full song downloads a 3MB song which used to take 1min, will
now take about 6 sec

Mobile TV you can watch TV on your mobile with a choice of

channels of all genres news, entertainment, sports and so on.

Multi-player Gaming now you can play games and compete

with other people through multi-player gaming

Video clips that you can download or stream smoothly while on

the move

What is the difference between 3G and 4G?

These are different technologies. However, very few phones (less than 1%)
are 4G compatible and hence most customers will not be able to use 4G.
Also, 4G handsets are very expensive (usually more than Rs. 75,000).
3G customers will see 3, 3G, H, or H+ next to the network bars on
their phones.
4G customers should see LTE or 4G next to the network bars on their
phones. If any 4G customer does not see LTE or 4G on their phone, then
their operator is actually providing 2G or 3G service, and not 4G.

I have seen that the auction for 3G in Pakistan had

different categories namely 10 Mhz and 5 Mhz what exactly
do they mean?

These are frequencies through which user capacity is allocated on the cellular
network. Mobilink, being the largest network cellular operator in Pakistan, has
secured twice the band (10 MHz) as compared to two other operators in the
3G auction and hence will be able to cater for more users and provide a
better experience on its 3G network. 10 MHz means faster speed and more
customers served in a better way.

What is the 3G license and has Mobilink been given this?

Mobilink has successfully won the 3G license, and it can now launch 3G
services. With 3G, Mobilink will offer an even better mobile internet
experience for its customers.

What can I do with 3G?

3G services enable customers to use very fast internet on their phones. The
same video that took about one minute to download previously, with 3G it will
take less than 6 seconds. You will be able to watch videos, listen to music,
stream live TV and make video calls using 3G services.
What will I have to do once I am provisioned for 3G?

Once you have activated 3G services and are subscribed to a 3G bundle, you
will be able to enjoy 3G speed on mobile internet. Please restart your phone
once to be able to latch on to the network.
How do I know if I am in a 3G coverage area?

Dial *443# for free and check if you are currently in a 3G coverage area.
Once you are provisioned for 3G and you are in a 3G coverage area, your
network signal will show 3G , H or H+ . Also, please stay tuned to our

Do I need to buy a new Mobilink SIM card in order to use

3G?

No, you do not need a separate number or a new SIM to activate 3G. Your
current SIM is 3G compatible and you can activate a 3G Services on your
existing mobile number and SIM card.

What cities will be covered by 3G launch?

We are currently providing 3G services in 11 cities comprising Islamabad,

Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan,
Gujranwala, Sialkot and Hyderabad. You can find out the exact coverage area

3G network to other cities.

What will be the 3G speed on Mobilink?

3G will be approximately 10 times faster than 2G (EDGE/GPRS). The actual

speed is determined by multiple factors including the handset model,
coverage, network traffic and number of users currently connected to the 3G
network at a particular point of time. However, Mobilink will maintain one of
the best network experiences in the industry.

Prepaid subscribers can get 3G & Video Calling services activated by either (i)
dialing *443# and selecting 3G activation option. (ii) sending keyword SUB to
7003 (no SMS charges).
Are there any additional handset settings for 3G?

APN settings for 3G are same as 2G. If you are already using 2G data, you
dont need to do any other settings for 3G. If you are not using 2G data,
please enter following APNs.
Prepaid: jazzconnect.mobilinkworld.com
Postpaid: connect.mobilinkworld.com
In addition you need to enable 3G in your handset by either selecting 3G or
Auto mode in settings. If you have selected 2G only mode, you cannot
connect to 3G network.
How can I know if I am in 3G coverage area or not?

By dialing *443# & selecting 3G coverage location option, all prepaid &
postpaid subscribers can find out whether they are in 3G coverage area or
not. There are no charges for dialing *443#.

Mobilink is offering variety of 3G bundles to choose from as per subscriber

Prepaid subscribers can view 3G bundles by dialing *443# (without any

How can I make Video Call using Mobilink 3G network?

Video Calling is a handset based feature. Please check specifications of your
handset to find if it supports Video Call. If yes, you can make Video Call while
connected to the 3G network. Receiving party should be connected to 3G
network and have Video Calling capable handset in order to receive Video
Call.

Can I make Video call if I am not connected to 3G network?

Video Call cannot be made outside 3G network. You must be connected to 3G
network to avail this service.

Can I make Video call to other operators?

Currently, Video call is available from Mobilink to Mobilink only.

How much will I be charged for making Video call?

Outgoing video calls will be charged at base rate of Rs. 5.98/min. Charging
pulse will be 30 seconds. No charges will be applied for receiving video calls.

Go into your phones network settings and see if it has options to enable any
of the below listed features if it does then your phone is 3G supported:
