APRIL 1891, LONDON
I know Moriarty is alive, because he has killed another woman. And he will kill
again and again, if I dont stop him. I tried to explain this to Watson in mu
hidden message, but the stupid fellow didnt understand my letter. Never
mind. He has agreed to help me in my fight and together we will follow this evil
murderer. It is too dangerous to stay here in Watsons house as I am sure that
Moriarty and his men are watching it. Yes! I have just seen one of his men in
the garden so I must call Watson and we must leave at once!
2. Now complete the last page in Holmess diary with these linking
words.

APRIL 1891, SWITZERLAND
I have enjoyed myself since we left England. I knew that something was wrong
when I found my bedroom door was locked in Watsons house. I tried to hit the
man who came in, but he jumped away. And then there was the letter to
Lastrade, Which said that I was the Whitechapel murderer what rubbish! I took
it from the cooks hand while Watson was calling the cab but it wasnt Watson,
of course. No, Moriarty had killed my poor friend and taken his place. I know
this man is Moriarty because I have seen him injecting himself with cocaine,
Watson would never, never do those. The end will come today. M has asked me
to walk with him to the Reichenbach Falls, which is a wild and lonely succeed
because I have put blanks in his gun. He is clever, but I will destroy him! It will
be the last and greatest success of my life!

Holmes sent to Watson from France. Who wrote the note, and to

Now find the hidden message in this note. Who wrote the note and to
whom? When was it written?
Dr. Watson wrote this letter to Mary before he travels with Sherlock Holmes to
all Europe

London. The last day of the FOURTH month

Nobody knows where I am. My friends have hidden me and gone away. They
have to go back to Europe. I cannot go with them because of an accident to
and old patient, a good friend of mine. I dont have time to worry or even think
about who is watching me. I have found the papers. If the police ask, say you
know nothing. Tell them everything is fine.
The hidden message is this:
I have gone to Europe with an old friend. Dont worry about me. The police
know everything
4. When Watson returned home, perhaps Lastrade came to see him.
Put their conversation in the right order, and Write in the speakers
names. Lastrade speaks first.
Lestrade. - Good evening, Dr. Watson. I hear you have just returned from
Switzerland.
Dr. Watson. - Yes, Inspector, that is right. I got back yesterday.
Lestrade. - And I hear that there has been a sad accident.
Dr. Watson. - Ah, you have heard the news then. Yes, it was terrible. We have
lost a great man, Inspector.
Lestrade. - Mm. But how did it happen? Did Mr. Holmes fall from the path?
Dr. Watson. - Yes, er yes, he - he just fell over the edge.
Lestrade. - And you were not able to help him - to catch him before he fell to
this death?
Dr. Watson. - No, I could not do anything. I was, er, too far away.
Lestrade. - Too far away. I see. Were you and Mr. Holmes having an argument,
perhaps?
Dr. Watson. - An argument? No, of course not! We never argued. Holmes was
too clever for me to argue to him.
Lestrade. - He was a clever man, thats true. Clever ... and dangerous. Lets
hope that we have no Dr. Watson. - More murders in Whitechapel now.
Goodnight, Doctor.

5. Here is a letter to a newspaper, which was written by someone

when Watsons box of paper was opened in 1976. Complete the
sentences, using as many words as you like.
When I read the story in your newspaper. I felt very sad and very angry.
You say the papers in Dr. Watsons box show that Sherlock Holmes was a
dangerous criminal, but I am sure that it does not true. Everyone knows that
Sherlock Holmes was a clever detective, who never hurts an innocent people.
I think Dr. Watson was sick by the age when he started to write this
report. Or perhaps he started to use the cocaine as a drug and he wrote that
story while he was drugged, who knows? You say that you have checked
everything as you can but I am sure that most people do not believe that
Sherlock Holmes was a murderer.

6. Is the Sherlock Holmes in this story very different from the one in
Conan Doyles stories? Use these words to complete the passage
below.
Appearance / cases / clever / cut / explain / friend / intelligent / knife /
murder / recognize / women
In Conan Doyles books Sherlock Holmes is a very clever detective. His friend,
Dr. Watson, who helps him with his cases, is not very intelligent, and Holmes
often has to things to him. Holmes can change his appearance in many
different ways, and not even Watson can recognize him. It is true that ACDs
Holmes does not like women, but he does not murder them and cut their
bodies to pieces with a knife.
7. Do you think The Last Sherlock Holmes Story is a good tittle for this
Book? Here are some other possible titles. Which one do you like best,
and why?
A title, I like more is Dr. Watsons Last Case because comparing with the
other these says what is going to happen, so people before reading know what
is going to happen in the final. And other reason is also I think is a good title for
the ending of that story because Dr. Watson is the person who wrote all their
adventures and reports of all of their cases and also that he lived to tell the
tale.
